View Full Version : Reputation points

I'm trying to understand these...I know that they are awarded by others, but I am slightly confused as to how many you get when someone awards them. I have 3 people that have generously complemented me in this way. However after the first 2 I had 62 points (or about 31 each) and the third gave me 38 more?!?

The more rep one has, the more they can award.

Rep point values are based on the #of posts, rep, length of membership, and probably a few other things that i'm forgetting. But that's the just of it.

The only thing I really have against rep points is that the top however many are listed. I dunno, I guess I hate competitions. Well, and losing "popularity contests". Rep points are for saving the little posts of "Yeah, I agree," or "No, I disagree" without making it public or going through the trouble of pm'ing. I like the idea of "rep", I just don't see why there are point values applied.

Chiefster, you discount your value. Sure you PW better than most, however you also drop a pearl of wisdom on occasion that merits the delivery of postive rep. I have only used negative rep a couple of times personally, and as mentioned above only in the case of an extreme jacka$$ moment. I believe the now departed Smed was the primary focus of my "wrath". There was also one other (not to be named) who has since redeemed himself and earned positive rep.

I changed the reputation bars as you've probably noticed.

Dark Green dots for every 150 pts (5 max)
Light Green for every 250 pts (5 max)
Gold dots for every 500 pts (5 max)
Yellow circle with #58 in it for every 4500 points (no max)

As of this post your rep score is 11372.

You have the following rep dots:

2 #58's @ 4500 each = 9000
5 dark green @ 150 = 750
5 light green @ 250 = 1250
1 gold dot @ 500 = 500

The score is rounded up since everyone starts with one dark green. Hopefully this all makes sense.

Don't lose any sleep over it. The more "Yellow #58's" you have, the better. That's pretty much all you need to know. The only reason I changed it was because everyone had topped out the old reputation system. Everyone had 11 dots.

When people with more rep give rep to others is it worth more?

No the more rep you have, the more rep power you give. A newbie gives very few points. But your current rep power is 146 points. Guru has rep power of 243. Chiefster has power of 249. Rep power is based off of several factors including # of posts, rep points, and how long you have been a member of ChiefsCrowd.com.

Agreed; and I would also like to say that while I appreciate the rep given, I also would like to ask that folks not give me rep just for the sake of giving rep, but to rep only those post replies you feel are rep worthy. Also, do not feel obligated to give me rep simply because I may have given rep to you.

It's fine to give rep; for my end it's much appreciated, and you're right it is "one of the few things" controlled by all. I just didn't want anyone to feel obligated to give me rep simply because I had given them rep is all. Rep is a measure of how well one is liked and respected, all that I ask is that members (speaking of no one in particular) be careful not to use it frivolously and that when at all possible to spread it around. :)

Why is it such a concern that people give Rep? I sometimes like to give Rep just cause I like someone, but if that is a problem then I will stop. sorry

No concern and apology necessary; it's simply that Coach needed to tweak it a little in order to preserve screan real estate. And, there is nothing wrong with repping a person because they are well liked. I simple said what I did for the purposes stated above. :)

I need to; I'm so tired I can't even edit my own post replies anymore. :wheelchair:

Who's editing who's posts?

I had a hard time editing my own post reply. Instead of hitting edit I hit reply and ended up repeating myself.

Well you know it's true that old people, while slow and dangerous behind the wheel, still can serve a purpose.

I call it "death on wheels" but that's just me.

Try not to get near any Farmers Markets!

Hilarious Chiefster, but it didn't really address the issue of the elderly behind the wheel of a 2 ton vehicle.

My recommendation to you is leave the driving to the football player in the family!

Who said anything about a two ton vehicle?

I'm ignorant, I just assumed vehicles like that weighed about 4000 lbs.

Is this thing on?

I can't hear you?

Chiefster?

Why's that?

Because your butt is always showing when you wear that hospital gown before your prostate exam?

WOW! I should get negative rep for not reading this thread sooner! I had no idea we could give member's rep for worthy posts, etc.. I didn't know how it worked. I 'think' I understand now.

I read where the scales icon is how we 'rep' someone's post, but what is the little triangular logo used for that has the 'I' in it?

BTW...this was not only an informative thread, but entertaining and funny too! :)

This is also the red button, so to type, not really a red button, that gets the attention of the mod's or Coach to a thread, or a post in a thread. It is an alert sent to Coach and the Mods about spammers, or a post that breaks the rules of the crowd! Wait we have rules? Dang it, I should have read them!:yahoo:
