View Full Version : WHAT is wrong with the Super Bowl planners, are they senile?

We want Katy Perry as the half time act. It's not too late, make her a surprise guest appearance.

The Super Bowl show has to appeal to everybody, let's not lose a generation of fans just because some fuddy duddy doesn't know what the kids are listening to these days.

http://surftofind.com/katy

I am serious folks, START MAKING THOSE CALLS and get her on -it will be one hell of a show !

Hardcore fans should not ignore this plea. I know the game takes priority, but this is the Internet age -people watch the shows on youtube FOREVER when it's
all over, and it therefore MUST impress EVERYBODY to get maximum benefit out of the biggest game of the year.

MAKE IT HAPPEN, IF YOU HAVE ANY INFLUENCE !

ever since the wardrobe malfunction they have been steering clear of the ding dong pop culture music that appeals to teenies.

and have been going with real class acts like tom petty, bruce springsteen, the who, etc.

First...are you affliated with Perry in some way, such as an employee of her record label or publicity team? Therefore as such, spamming NFL related sites in hopes of a SB appearance by popular demand? I simply ask because I know this is common practice in the recording industry, and I know people in the industry who do such for a living.

The half time entertainment should first and foremost appeal to the majority of NFL fans who loyally support the NFL year round...of which the vast majority are not teen pop music fans. "The Who" are historic, legendary, and timeless in their music and appeal...they bridge all generations.

I doubt a "fuddy duddy" on the NFL's BOD made the decision to contract "The Who". "Fuddy Duddy" personalities would not be a fan of, or in favor of "The Who", LOL.

I like many of their songs & grew up with their music...but, I'm not huge fan of "The Who". I preferred the music of bands such as the Rolling Stone's, etc..

That said, no one can deny 'The Who's' legendary status in the history of music, nor that their music bridges the generations. I know many within younger generations who listen to the music of "The Who", as well as many other bands of my generation.

My generation was the original Woodstock era. It just doesn't get any better musically, than that era of Classic Rock & Folk Rock.

I got nothing against The Who, but man did they ever sound terrible through the first segment.

They got it together. But it was pretty nasty at first.

Personally, I would rather they just do away with the halftime show.

But that's just me.

The Who was probably my least favorite performance since Prince in 2007. I like the Who's music, but I just don't understand putting a group out there that is way past their prime. The performance was not good at all.

As for Katy Perry comments, this looks like SPAM.

Connie Jo

I'm not a fan of Prince at all...the dude is freaky and always has been, his music as freaky as he is most times.

I read some info on Facebook this morning from those within the music industry. They were saying that the sound people screwed up somehow mixing...and that's why the sound quality wasn't that good, rather than the bad sound being the fault of 'The Who' themselves.

My favorite half time performance was in 2004, the year Janet Jackson made infamous half time history, lol. It wasn't because of her though, it was because Kid Rock performed right before she did.

He got bashed a little for wearing a custom designed Amercian Flag poncho...but he didn't wear it to disrespect the flag...rather in support of America's Military & his Patriotism. He's extremely Patriotic, very loyal & dedicated to our troops.

He's spent almost the entire month of December in Iraq for the last several years. He's even near the front lines, not one of those celebs who stays clear of all danger. A couple yrs ago a bomb went off in a war zone he was near...he rode in the ambulance with several wounded soldiers offering emotional support.

It's not just about his music that make's me his fan...I'm a fan of Kid Rock as a human being too...he has a heart of gold most aren't aware of due to negative media hype & spin.

Another note...I read an article a few yrs ago related to the NFL's choices in music at halftime. At one point they indeed were bringing in artists hoping to draw the younger generation to boost SB viewer ratings. However, they were bombarded with complaints, & received more negative response than positive from fans and media.

It may have been Prince & Janet Jackson performance style's that drew the complaints related to that article. I know they both were mentioned in the article, but can't remember specifically in what context.

Again, here is something we can agree on. I can understand Daultry having a hard time singing, he is what 95 or something, but Townsend? I guess he really is deaf because he had no idea when to come in and waht to play.

Pretty good though, he did a lot of jumping around and did not break a hip, Chiefster can relate!

I agree, it was the same way for me with the Stone's, love the music but there just getting old and can't perform at the same level anymore. Now, Tom Petty, the man's a legend and still puts on one hell of a show and is still actively recording quality music. My vote would be to find artists like that, who have timeless music and ton of talent. Including more recent artists, such as Dave Matthews, that are extremely talented and have a wide appeal. Definitly no Katy Perry or other flash in the pan pop star.

Hell, they had 106 million viewers, ya think all the kids are WHO fans now?

I was disappointed in Carrie Underwood singing the Star Spangled Banner.

I heard her sing it a few yrs ago at a MLB playoff game...she did good, didn't miss a note. The Banner is one of the most difficult of songs to perform live, so I was impressed with her back then singing it.

However, she missed many notes Sunday, and was off key at different points. Someone said they thought she began partying too early...maybe so! hahaha :D

I don't care for Taylor Swift's voice, nor hear talent in her voice...it always sounds the same, boring & no range, very immature sounding, not developed so to speak. I know she's the big trend right now, but sure don't know why. She's very pretty however!! :D

For a female choice...I'll choose PINK any day of the week!!! Now that would be an entertaining half time show & a truly talented voice!!! PINK ROCKS!!

Well...I just did some on line research of the average NFL Super Bowl Fan and/or viewer.

Of your 106 million viewers you can clearly see from the study below, that the vast majority are not of the younger generation. The "Current Mass Appeal" as you call it...are between the ages of 35-65+...that age range accounts for 72% of Super Bowl viewers.

Only 10% are between the ages of what I assume you're calling "kids" in a previous post...ages 18-24. Another 18% between the ages of 25-34. The 'younger generation' only accounts for 28% of NFL fans. No doubt the NFL selects the half time entertainment as a result of such marketing studies.

Age
35-44 21%
45-54 20%
25-34 18%
65+ 16%
55-64 15%
18-24 10%

I actually had the same thought when I returned tonight & read through the many replies.

Music is a passion of mine, which is what drew my interest in the discussion. However, you're right. This thread proves a point...the Super Bowl has become too much about viewer ratings, halftime music, advertisement, profit...and too much attention is being taken from the game.

The Super Bowl is about football, and historic football at that. There is little discussion related to the game going on by comparison. Another sign of the times? :(

You want me to go break a guitar for you right now? I'm 20... so don't start with me on that. I can tell you flat out that the majority of people my age know Katy Perry sucks. She had a couple decent songs for clubs and my 14 year old sister is crazy about her, but she's a terrible fit for America's greatest game. Give me a legend who can still put on a hell of a show like Tom Petty or a truely talented modern group like the Dave Matthews Band any day of the week.

By the way if you would actually read my post you would see I was less than impressed with The Who's performance.

Also for those commenting on how there's more talk about the music than the actual football. I personally felt this was a hard superbowl to get excited about. Its always hard when its not your team playing, and you don't have a real reason to root for either team. Frankly I was rather indifferent about who won, I rooted for the Colts because both Dallas Clark and Bob Sanders are ex-Hawkeyes.

COOL!! I know many myself in your generation who listen to much music of the legendary rockers, which I think I mentioned in a previous post.

I was excited about this Super Bowl for New Orleans and their fans. The reason being...it's been 40 yrs since our Chiefs have made it to a Super Bowl, and I know how excited the NO fans must have felt to finally have their team make it, and WIN!!

As well, I've been a bit partial to the Saints since Hank Stram left the Chiefs to coach at NO. Lastly, I still am a fan of Scott Fujita resulting from his time with the Chiefs.

I would've preferred the Vikes had made it, but of course they didn't. I'm a bit partial to the Vikes for man of the same reasons as I am NO...former fav Chiefs becoming Vikes over the yrs...and Brett Favre simply ROCKS the field of play!! Love watching him play football! :D

Thank you!! It's an honor and privilege to share with younger fans! I didn't realize how important sharing was until I saw my grandson's face lite up when Curtis McClinton was telling him stories of being in SB IV at Draft Day 3 yrs ago. To be honest, I'm sure my face was lit up too, hahaha.

I can be considered obsessive with my Chiefs passion, but those who know me best in life say it's not obsession, rather say I don't know how to half a** anything, give my entire heart to what I'm passionate & loyal towards...I'm not sure yet if that's a bad or good trait, lol.

I do know I want nothing more than to see Arrowhead once again filled with loyal diehard fans restoring the honorable title of Arrowhead being the loudest stadium in the NFL...and will encourage that any way I think I can, haha. We need the younger generation of fans to accomplish that! :D

As far as Deuce...I couldn't agree more, and when I read the story it brought tears to my eyes! I'm a sentimental softie like that, haha.
