Peyton Manning storms off Super Bowl field. Is he a poor sport? - Shutdown Corner - NFL Blog - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Peyton-Manning-storms-off-Super-Bowl-field-Is-h?urn=nfl,218314)

I can't stand manning for his Me, Me, Me attitude. I feel he could of atleast stayed on the feild for a few mins longer.I do understand there was alot of media there in his way...but no excuse to me.

Peyton Manning is a sore loser.

I disagree.

I dont understand why some people dislike him so much.

I have never seen him do anything unsportslike. I have never heard him say anything bad about anyone. Whether he wins or loses. He said they won becuz they were the better team.

He is an incredible quarterback. He had an absoulutaly awesome performance last nite. With a mistake that cost the game.

He didnt storm off. This is some lame writing so the writers have something to write about. To create some drama.

Manning just wanted Brees to enjoy the moment. And according to Brees, Manning texted him to congrat him and Brees totally appreciates him and understands him for letting him enjoy his moment (with his son).

I dont dislike Manning at all I think the media overrates him but I dont dislike him at all. He has always been a good sport off the field. I think he should have went on the field to shake hands but I belive him when he says thats why.

I think Manning is a great QB, but he's definitely overrated. He struggles to win big playoff games. Yeah he has 1 super bowl (he beat the measly Rex Grossman in that game), but if you compare his playoff record (9-9) to that of guys like Montana (16-7), Elway (14-7), or Brady (14-4), it's easy to see that he's not the greatest QB ever.

I agree, I don't dislike him persay. However, I do feel he should've shaken hands, it would've only taken a moment, and I doubt it would've taken much, if anything at all away from Brees. In fact, it would've been a memorable photo of the two shaking hands years from now, for Brees to share with his grandkids, etc..

I'm fairly certain Brees would've congratulated Manning had he won the game.

I don't know why Manning didn't offer congrats on the field, it's definitely customary to do so, but it's not my place to question his given reason, so if he says it was for Brees' benefit, so be it.

Agree with this as well.

I have noticed that too, which is one reason why I draw the conclusion he has some arrogance about him. That said, I suppose he has reason to be arrogant. No doubt the media attention has went to his head over the years, he's only human.

I have no clue. I dont realy think that you can tell best ever. We dont no what some great QBs could do in the NFL today. The game has gotten more passive. In days of Len Dawson Terry Bradshaw and others there was much more running then passing. I dont think you can realy say overall whos the best of all time. If I had to chose I would have to say Montana but Its hard to say.

Im neutral on Peyton Manning. I would have walked right off too. Its the Super Bowl. You don't really go congratulate the other team after you lost the Super Bowl. You just can't.

Not that this is anything new but i happen to disagree with you. :D

every other player went to congratulate the saints hes no diffrent it happens all the time in the superbowl. they shake hands and walk off and let the champs have there moment. He should have went to shake hands its just what they should do. Its part of the reason they are paid the millions of Dollars. They are suspose to be not good but great sports.

i think Brees is near the top. Since 06' Brees has better stats than anyone - 4 quater comebacks. He almost broke Dan Marinos record and he was short 16 yards!

Well, I suppose it's possible it's happened in previous SB's...but I've never witnessed the losing team QB, coaches, players...not congratulating those on the winning team. It's always been the proper sportsmanship thing to do, regardless.

Peyton Manning has an unhappy Super Bowl ending - NFL News - FOX Sports on MSN (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Marvez-Manning-has-unhappy-ending-020710)

This article sheds a little more light on the situation. In this article, probably written with a slant, Manning does speak volumes about how dropped passes and failed special teams cost the Colts the game.

He was clear that he meant no slight to the Saints for the win and that he was going to congratulate them later.

Manning is an incredible player, the things that he does on the field are far more than most any other quarterback has done.

Is Drew Brees insulted? No?

So.......

What's the new reason to hate a great player?

Realistically though, even if Brees was insulted he has too much class and sportsmanship to say so publicly. I don't know if I'd be insulted in Brees shoes, rather disappointed.

It would also make me feel bad thinking I was the reason someone was upset enough to avoid me, but I'm a softie like that sometimes.

I played golf competitively for yrs, and when I'd win a tournament would feel bad for those who put forth as much effort as I did to win, but didn't. I always enjoyed my victory more when those I competed against congratulated me with sincerity. Unless I didn't like a competitor, then I wouldn't feel bad if they lost, hahaha. :D

As much as the media hails him as being a great player the least he can do is shake hands. Grossman did it for him when he won the superbowl. I think he honestly felt that it was the saints moment but he should have went to shake hands. EVERY OTHER colt did why not him?

I've been giving this subject some deeper thought. I give Peyton the benefit of the doubt here. I've come to this conclusion with my thoughts:

Peyton has to know how much attention the media pays to him over and above any other QB, or player in the NFL for that matter. He has to know that Brees was over-shadowed in all the pre Super Bowl sports talk, while the spotlight was as always focused upon him as being the greatest, all odds in his favor to win, etc..

It stands to reason that Peyton would assume 'if' he had approached Brees to congratulate him, much of the media would've focused their attention as always on Manning. Manning going directly to the locker room left the media no choice but to focus on one QB only...the one who deserved to be focused on...Drew Brees.

We have to remember that as a result of the media making Manning their golden boy, their NFL God for the last several years...it creates special circumstances not found in a Manningless Super Bowl. The media treats no other QB in the NFL with the same glory as they do Manning...therefore, no other QB would have to consider his congratulating the winning opponent live...with literally 100's of journalists from around the world waiting to pounce for a Manning comment.

Very likely many would've run towards Peyton, leaving Brees in the dust. Peyton is a very intelligent man...he knows the realities.

Half the fun of beating the Colts would be to have Manning shake your hand in defeat!!

Oh, I totally agree, and I think it's a shame that moment didn't happen for Brees personally, it would've made for a historic moment in his career and life. I'm just saying, I can see the flip side too...assuming Peyton's reasons given for not congratulating Brees are honest of course. Only Peyton knows in his heart what the truth is...but his reason given does make some sense all factors considered.
