I like to see this and i think he could be a great KR too! If JC wasn't such a great RB then I think he'd still be the KR because he was so good at it, so I think he's a bit like JC.

I agree he is a lot like JC, very full of energy and excitement.
I was surprised with the pick but like him alot.:chiefs:

But the CB we got after that was listed as the best Kick returner in the entire draft.

We now have two High speed backs on our team.

Our offense is going to be fantastic.

This was a dumb pick, a throw away pick for us to get McCluster, I just don't understand it. Yeah, the guy might be fast, although is combine numbers don't show it, but he is too small for anything except perhaps returning kicks.

Look at 5'9" he is not big enough to be a slot receiver. At 172 pounds he is not heavy enough to be a great back, besides, we already have a back that is about that size and we are already talking about him having trouble being an everydown back.

I would have said great pick if we didn't already have Charles, but we have two guys now that are nearly the same, that does nothing for us, even if we put him in at wide receiver.

I am really disappointed with this pick, with thoughts of it being almost Al Davis-ish! Hopefully he will be a Sproles type return man, that is about the best we can hope for with this pick.

I agree, If they can get the Defense good too, the chiefs will be a powerful force once more.

What? Too short? Noone is too short. How tall do you think Welker is?

Dante was only 5'6" and he just didn't have the hands one should.

MJD 5'6ish or 7ish? He is one of their better backs around right now.

Size is nothing. It your heart and soul that counts, and the will to succeed

All the heart and soul in the world didn't make RUDY any good.

A smaller player CAN succeed. But they so rarely do that you have to consider it a far bigger gamble, than if you had taken a bigger player of similar skill.

We are not a team that has been so good that we can afford to be extra risky with our early draft picks.

For us to lose on such gambles means we don't improve and are the same as we were. And the same can be said for The Colts.

But The Colts were in The Super Bowl. So remaining the same as before is awefully good. We were 4-12. Do we want to stay the same?

We need every bit of upgrade that we can get. The Colts will do pretty good without.

He is actually 5'8" and weighs in at 165 by kcchiefs.com profile on him. They do have him listed as a wr which most likely means they are going to use him in the Wes Welker role . I wouldn;t be surprised to see him doing some wildcat stuff as well. He can be a Sproles type rb with his size and speed is even still a great change up from JC. The main thing is his speed which in the NFL we all know speed kills. I don;t expect you to take my word on it but when the proof is in that he won't help the team, I will eat crow then but until then I see a good pick up.:chiefs:

If we really wanted a Wes Welker type, not sure why we didn't go with great route runners like Eric Decker or Damian Williams. I hope they have a plan for him and I hope he's a stud, otherwise I'll be really disappointed. I know I'm not the expert, but I stared at my phone while at work scratching my head at this pick when it happened, the first thing I thought was that it was thrown away. I desperately hope I was wrong.

They went after McCluster because he is known for burning the second level defenders with his speed like Welker does. Mayock was showing film of it and pointing it out while they spoke about the pick.

People have got to remember how well the Pats did during the Pioli / Weis era and that Scott Pioli is very experienced and definatrly knows what he's doing and how to make a team successful and win games!

Pioli does know how to pick players to fit the mold of the Weis Offensive system. I have no doubt we are setting the team up exactly the way Weis had it in NE. I am just hoping Crennell can get the defense to step it up in the Sack and run stopping area.By picking 2 DBs in this draft I see the Chiefs trying to gain sacks by coverage which is a great way to cause that. If the qb has nowhere to throw a ball he usually holds it to long and gets sacked or forces the throw causing an int.

Yeah, if the offense gets really good but the defense doesn't we could see a repeat of 2003; unstoppable offense, defense lost it on the playoffs.

Well, remember Belichick hired Pioli. Belichick was the decision maker in that house. Pioli's track record started last year...

Last year was the first year of the new rageme, new HC new GM new defensive scheme. This year everything is more organised. That's one reason i think they'll be better this season.

I doubt that Belichick made all the decisions in NE however he is now. Scott Pioli's rep is deserved.

Woudn't the GM (Scott Pioli (other than when he was hired)) make a fair few of the decisions?

I don't want to talk crap to those who are disappointed by the McCluster pick, but you guys don't seem to understand that he is obviously being brought in to be our slot receiver (something we desparately need) and gadget play guy, as well as someone to add some speed to an offense that is very slow aside from JC and Lance Long (assuming Long even makes the team next season).

You all talk about how small he is, but I can almost guarantee you that Pioli sees a lot of Wes Welker in him (5'9 185 lbs) - a small guy who reaches full speed instantly, has great hands, and is not afraid to go down the middle whatsoever. Size means nothing for slot receivers. It's all about quickness, route running, hands, and toughness.

EXACTLY!

P.S. MAN I don't understand why people have nothing better to do but constantly bitc* on these threads about the Chiefs. It makes me wonder...if we won the Super Bowl would there still be people on here moaning about how it wasn't by enough points?

Be thankful we have a team to root for!

Did we just win The Super Bowl? Did we come close? Did we make the playoffs? Did we have a winning record? Did we go 4-12?

Answer those questions and you will be one step closer to figuring out why some people aren't all that thrilled.

I can see "the bright side" just fine. But, where I am differing from many of you is that I can also see the "not-so-bright" side.

Are the players we drafted good? Probably. They were taking with higher draft picks. (Bright side)

Are they going to play a big part in helping to stuff the run, pass-protect, or rush the QB? No. Not likely. (Not-so-bright side)

See how I did that? After looking at the bright side, instead of just declaring everything to be great, I then had a look at the not-so-bright side.

This provides a balanced picture. Not a one-sided picture.

I just prefer to have that balance.

*** NOTE*** There is alot deeper that one can go into the bright, and the not-so-bright sides. But just wanted to make it a quick example.

Very well said. We have a huge need for this guy, He will make Cassel and the OL both look better, also the rest of the WR's and the TE.

With the free agents that are now going to be available, along with our new defense coach, I can see a improved team on both sides of the ball. This should result in more wins. There is much to be optimistic about this coming season
