KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Safety Eric Berry, the fifth overall pick in last spring's draft, and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a deal, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Berry also posted the news on his Twitter account.

A spokesman for the Chiefs said until the club announced something, there is nothing official.

But Berry tweeted Friday: "Bout to head to St. Joe!!! Aka the deals done."

Ranking his signing from 1-10, I'd have to give him a 10. 10 million per year for six years that is, I hope he pans out, if not, we'll pay for a long time on the cap.

Not for long. The Chiefs and Berry just jacked up the going rate for a top-tier NFL safety. Some established vet is going to want to have their contract re-worked after they find out that an unproven rookie is making more than them.

I really hope Berry brings something special to the team.

Nothing standing in his way of participating in training camp tomorrow. From what I understand Haley had them in full pads today.

Yep. Some teams don't do that right off the bat, but personally I think it's a good thing. They're going to be doing it a lot so they might as well start early.

So is Berry going to be FS or SS for us? And who was playing with him in the OTA's?

Look at it this way...with the new CBA, there is going to be a rookie wage scale.

We have had our last rookie holdout.

We have had our last crippling rookie salary.

In three years, if we need to draft a QB in the first round, we can do it without gambling the future on a 50 mil guarantee.

This is the last great rookie payout, and at least we paid one of the best players in the draft, with one of the highest characters. I can live with this kid getting this much money. Lord knows I can't do what he does.

Great way to look at it, and I must agree. I'm just glad Pioli got the deal done in time for him to make camp!
