CHIEFS ADD WR WILLIAM BUCHANON TO PRACTICE SQUAD

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has added WR William Buchanon to its practice squad. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available.
Buchanon (6-3, 191) attended training camp with Oakland from 2006-07 and also spent time in camp with the N.Y. Giants this year. He spent time on the Raiders practice squad a year ago before being promoted to the 53-man roster on December 19th. He played in two games for Oakland in 2006, catching one pass for nine yards.
The Oceanside, California native played cornerback and wide receiver at USC. Buchanon earned All-America honors as a senior at Oceanside High School when he caught 30 passes for 553 yards (23.0 avg.) with five TDs. Buchanonís father, Willie played 11 years in the NFL for Green Bay and San Diego.

Is this because of the injury to Kennison?

We do need a number three WR. :)

Is this the guy that came off suspension the same time Jared Allen did?

Good question...

Good question...

I heard it on NFL Network, but I thought they said he was a former Niner WR, who had also come off suspension and is an URFA who could sign with any team he liked.

usually when they sign someone, doesn't it mean they got rid of someone?

who'd they kick to the curb?

I hope the didn't put Kennison on injured reserve.

Doesn't that mean he will be out for some time?

Guess Sippio couldn't cut it.

He's never been a real role guy in SF...and considering the shoddy WR staff we've had the past few years that doesn't say much for him. I think if Bowe continues to emerge and Herm/Carla figure out that Sippio is a better possession guy (hands) than Parker, the KC WR corp will be okay, especially when/if Kennison returns to health.

Since when do we cut people from the 53-man roster to sign people to the practice squad?

Where do you read that?

No one was cut for Buchanon...there was an open spot on the practice squad (8 are allowed, 7 were signed before today)...the thought last week was Medlock would likely be signed to practice squad, but apparently the Chiefs decided to move on?!

With Buchanon's experience it probably has more to do with the kick coverage last week. Guessing they're fanning a flame under a couple a$$e$ to improve kick coverage.

Hint: BRING BACK PHINISEE!!!!!!!

I'm with you on this one what were they thinking letting him go?

He performed better than anyone I saw in the pre season.

Well maybe Pollard and Paige.

They will be stars in this league.

Buchanon likely wouldn't be a kick returner...more a gunner/coverage guy.

Ummm, didn't we need some gunner / coverage guys in Chicago?

Exactly...my point was directed at the point that Phinissee "is/was" the answer. Although I agree he has talent, his ability was more as a returner than a gunner/coverage guy.

Oh and by the way, Buchanon wasn't on the SF roster last year, but rather the Oakland practice squad.
