lol im the one who heard about it the whole time but I felt the same way. What is an illegal snap? You either snap the ball or not.

Actually an illegal snap is a very subtle movement of the ball...usually a flinch by the center to try and draw the defense offsides...the attached link goes to the NFL rules and describes the rule. (Rule 7)
