I think we have a chance for the playoffs based on how the other teams in our conference are playing, especially on defense. Feels good to get that first win.

Go Chiefs!!

Welcome to the boards. I agree the West is definitely down this year. I knew SD would struggle early. I think people overlooked all of the changes that took place there. Denver has a young QB. It's anyone's division, but SD definitely has the most talent. Although, I like the way our defense is playing.

This is the most competitive division in the league.

Some strange stuff has been happening this year in the NFL.

Historically I would agree. But this year, the talent is way down IMO.

My ranking so far this year:
AFC North - Pitt, Cincy, Balt are all playoff contenders
AFC South - Houston looks improved, Indy, Jax and Tenn can beat good teams on any given week.
AFC East - NE is the best by a long shot.
AFC West - A bunch of mediocre unbalanced teams with SD having the most talent.

3 games into it, everyone has a chance. The season just started.

Whether we still have a chance after...lets say week 8...is yet to be determined.

We could be 4-4 by then....or we could be 2-6 and already out of the playoffs...only time will tell....GET HERM THE #$%#$ out of KC!! *sigh*

but, yes, good observation, the west is not exactly the powerhouse of the AFC.

I almost enjoy Broncos losses as much as Chiefs Wins. Oakland was close to leading the west on that Kick last week. The Division is def. up for grabs.

There is more talent this year in the west than ever before.

It is not being utilized correctly by the coaches.

Oakland got lucky today.

Yes it is funny to think that if Oak didn't get shafted on that FG last week, that they would be winning the division.

I hate to be negative about the chiefs, but I am concerned about Solari's play calling. We have the talent (except at right tackle, Turley the Turd) to score 21 points + every week, but we make it easy on the defense by our play calling.

Last year's playoff Loss to the Colts was the single worst display of playcalling I have ever seen in my short 33 years.

Let's be honest:

Broncos: They were SOOOOO over-rated it was sickening. They went with the QB that finished 2-3 (and insured them of missing the play-offs last year) -- and were said to be only a hair behind SD. They squeeze out a win in week one on a last second 50 yard field goal, then almost lose to Oakland at home in OT, AND ARE STILL IN THE POWER RANKINGS in the top 10. They will be fighting Oakland for 3rd in the AFC West.

SD: They replaced one of the winningest coaches in history with a career loser. Can it be ANY surprise they start 1-2 and look like they have not team definition? Who are these guys? If LT doesn't run, Philip Rivers sucks.... These are the guys the Chiefs are fighting for a play-off spot as division champs.

There is NO reason, the Chiefs don't end next week as tied for first in the AFC West. The defense has given up less than 13 points a game, less than 300 yrds of offense, and has turn-overs & sacks in every game so far.

Denver goes to Indy. Enough said...

Chiefs end next week in SD with a 2-2 record, tied for first in the AFC West and don't look back...

yes, next week's game is SO SO SO HUGE....for many reasons, but the biggest reason being momentum and taking care of the mentality of the players.

The difference from being 2-2 or 1-3 is ASTOUNDING.

Next week's game could determine our fate for the rest of the season.

No, it isn't quiet a must-win like today's game WAS...but it is very important.

All of the coaches in this division SUCK! We all know how bad Herm is. Norv Turner isn't any better, he's a loser. Shannahan has the most success of any of the coaches in this division, but hasn't done ANYTHING since Elway retired, not to mention, he went for it on 4th down and 9 and inside the 10 and missed early in the 4th quarter and still in the game......who goes for that again? Raiders look much improved, we can't look past them anymore like we used to, but I can't say I'm devastatingly worried about them either.

If these division rivals can keep stinkin' up the place we have a great chance for the playoffs.

SD has probs on offense right now and our defense is awesome. Our offense will have to continue to improve and play the best they have all year in order to win next week but it's certainly possible. The win against the Vikings will boost confidence and the fact that the players are starting to get on the coaches about the playcalling may convince them to have some faith in the players to open up the playbook some and trust the guys to make some plays and put some points up.

The Donkeys play the Ponies next week and Ponies are the prettier animals by far. Literally, and in a football sense as well this year. Denver scraped past teams that are less than impressive the first two weeks and lost to Jacksonville-- the first truly decent team they have played this year. Indianapolis is playing at a higher level than most teams in the league right now. There is a huge mountain to climb for the Donkeys to win this game.

Oakland plays Miami so who knows there. Trent and the Faders are very familiar with each other and each team is honestly less than impressive. Tough call.

All that being said, there could be 3 teams in the AFC West after next week all sitting at 2-2. Hold on to your panties, this division could get really interesting this year.

I agree on the call about the Donks and Faders. But the Chiefs are large underdogs against the Bolts IMO. Everything will have to go right or this will be a blowout. The Chiefs simply haven't scored enough points to keep up in the games they have played this year. I know the Chiefs defense is better, but the Bolts will still score 20-25. Can the Chiefs?

I'll take the under on 22.5...I'd guess this to be a 17-14 battle as both teams have had nearly impotent offenses to this point.

Chiefs get no respect. I saw the spread was 12 in SD's favor. The Chiefs D has held opponents to under 13 and SD is averaging less than 17, so what does that mean?

It means "it's the Chiefs - they have no chance" again to the national media.

Chiefs hold the Charges to 13 or less and score 20.

LT has been contained this year so far. Rivers isnt looking to good. They were arguing last week on the sideline. Seems like SD could be falling apart.

The main part is to contain LT like the other teams have. If he is not a threat then we can beat them with realitive ease I think.

if you are so mad about the spread, GO PUT REAL MONEY ON THE CHIEFS BEATING THE SPREAD.

i think 12 is a fair spread, given what the nfl fans that are not biased for the chiefs have seen the chiefs do this year.

i think it is all up hill from here for the Chiefs...but that is cause there isnt much further down you can go.

i like the chiefs defense, but they got very lucky minnesota didnt add 11 more pts....from the overthrown pass to the WIDE OPEN MAN in the end zone that the safetys failed to pick up and also the dropped pass in the end zone where the ground caused him to drop it...and they settled for a fg.

what i am saying is the 12 pt spread is fair...chiefs SHOULD actually win...if one of us chiefscrowd were coaching the offense....but the ppl making the spread is thinking about the HERM FACTOR, which is what you should be thinking about as well. the HERM FACTOR. no one has any control over the herm factor.

Very true that u cant count out SD. Thats what I dont like about ESPN right now. They all under estimate the Chiefs by saying that we have no chance with all the talent we have on O. Plus all the talent we have on an improved D from last year.

Here is a thought... If we can go to San Diego and find a way to win, while the Colts are handing Denver their second loss and dropping them to 2-2, the AFC would look like this...

K.C. 2-2

Den. 2-2

S.D. 1-3

Oak. 1-3 (probably.)

I think the Raiders will beat Miami, even in Miami. The Fish look really bad. As for our chances against the Bolts, it really all depends on offense. Which one will break out of the slump first? Actually let me reword that, which RB will break out of the slump first? LJ or LT? Whichever one does will win the game, guaranteed.

I've been thinking the same thing about the RB's but the Chiefs can't come out in this game with one-dimensional playcalling. We really need to get the lead first in this game and hold it throughout the second half with good defense and ball control.

Agreed. We cant afford to go down by a TD in SD with a weapon like LT. We need to try to take the lead early so SD has to play catch up againt our D who is playing very well so far.

If we put in Brody and started off passing they would know exactly what we are doing...

There is one advantage that the Chiefs have in this game, that seems to have been overlooked. While the turmoils of the Chargers offense has been well noted, around the league and on this board.

However, it seems to go unnoticed that the Chargers defense has been struggling as well. They currently rank tweny-third in points allowed, twenty-second in yards allowed, twenty-second in passing yards allowed and ninth in rushing yards allowed.

If the Chiefs choose to take advantage of the Chargers' deficiencies in pass defense, as I know we are all hoping they will, then we could further expose that defense.

I think that along with Marty Schottenhiemer and Cam Cameron, the Chargers may be missing Wade Phillips just as much.

2-2 and first place is great, but almost more important is the 1-0 in the division.

The West is going to be really interesting. All 3 2-2 teams are looking atleast ok (Denver). Chiefs look great sencodn half of games. If we get get it together the first half no doubt we are the best team in the West. Suprisingly Chockeland is looking good so far as well. SD is almost out 1 more loss and I think they will be outta the race. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

The west may not be as competitive to other divisions but its vere competitive in the division thus far.
