I understand the whole dual threat in the backfield, but when one guy clearly outperforms the other WITH THE SAME LINE/PLAYS then its becoming less of a dual threat at runningback and honestly Jones is a break for the other team and a gauranteed 3 yards. I dont like it...Charles can break a long TD at any point. Feed him the ball more!!

Agreed! if god forbid Charles got hurt for a long period of time and all we had was Jones (assume no DMC) - our running game becomes NON-EXISTENT. Charles just makes Jones look tired and slow.

Ok I have been very quietly watching and analyzing the game today.
After last week I really wanted to watch Matt Cassel and see if I was being overly harsh with my criticisms.
I listen to NFL on Sirius during the week and now have NFL Sunday ticket(This year).

Time for a bit of Crow from me. Matt Cassel is playing with passion.

I have really watched today and have watched him scramble, watched him look around at multiple receivers, and watched loving how he outran Charles so he could block for him on a play.

I have to say after looking at the stats he is not throwing int's he seems to finally have chemistry with Bowe and he is not holding the ball like he was before.

A wise Chief31 told me last week that maybe I was still hanging onto and judging the Cassel of last year.
From the looks of the game today and analysis from the people getting paid to analyse I feel that very well could have been true.

From the looks of the game today I can also see that this year the Chiefs could very well be a playoff team, and from the way we played Indy and Houston (even though both were losses) I feel that this team by the time the playoffs get here could win a game or two and could even surprise the NFL world and make it to the Super Bowl.

Slam me all you want for my analysis from before but I am admitting that I was wrong Cassel has more potential then I had thought and could very well eventually be an Elite QB in this league. And it might not be far off.

chief31
11-28-2010, 06:53 PM
So you jump on cassel for a slight overthrow but a fumble and a droped pass is not hurting the team?

I never said he was a detremit to the team but he is not perfect. he to makes mistakes thats why he does not get every carry. You can't ignore his mistakes.

No one is ignoring mistakes.

But to suggest that he gets the ball less than he could because he makes mistakes is flat-out wrong.

He splits carries so that he stays healthy and doesn't wear down.

Umm - i can ignore them a hell of a lot more than dangerous over throws down the middle of the field which often result in INTs.

I feel a lot more confident with the ball in Charles' hands than Cassel's despite his rather saintly performance the first half.

Even higher up on my ****-list is JONES who hasnt run more than 3 yards in i dont know how many games now. hes irritating to watch and IMO is becoming a dangerous waste of downs here int he second half.

- having said that - i always would like to give credit where its due, and Cassel just had an AWESOME scramble and completion to Bowe :)

How often? The man has 21 TDs and 4 (yes, that's 4, spelled f*o*u*r) INTs on the season.

Agreed! if god forbid Charles got hurt for a long period of time and all we had was Jones (assume no DMC) - our running game becomes NON-EXISTENT. Charles just makes Jones look tired and slow.

And Jones makes Charles healthy and fresh.

I love Thomas Jones. I'd rather see more of Charles, but I know why I see so much of Jones. And I like it. (For the most part.)

And Jones makes Charles healthy and fresh.

I love Thomas Jones. I'd rather see more of Charles, but I know why I see so much of Jones. And I like it. (For the most part.)

I don't think you can deney that people have been far harder on Cassel for mistakes that didn't end up in being a turnover then they have on Charles on plays that have. I just think people are being unfair to Cassel. When Cassel makes a overthrow there are some on here that act like he did just throw a pick 6 when Charles fumbles they are silent. If we are going to call out every mistake I think we have to do it all around.

I do however think that Charles mistakes are part of the reason he does not see the ball more. I don't think it's a major thing but late in a few games we have seen jones get the carries late. Maybe because that's why. I am not on the Chiefs coaching staff so I don't no. But It's just my thought.

I do agree and I do like Jones as well. My thing is I don't like how we are useing Jones. More of his carries are up the middle where we for the most part have a hard time running the ball. I think that is a factor. But if we didn't have Jones I don't think we would have as many wins. He is helping this team. He is helping to make Charles better.

I agree with every word.

Most here know how I feel about Cassel's play this season. And this game is just one more where his doubters will have to reexamine their opinion of him.

I think that Charles has been slightly underused. But I still like having Jones there to lighten the load for him.

My reflection on this game.

Cassel did GREAT today. He was accurate, he was decisive. He still has his targets picked at times perhaps a bit prematurely, but thats not a bad thing when youre throwing at quick slant routes (vs doing this deep with good coverage). And man he had some good scrambles today! he didnt panic and made a handful of big plays by staying limber and knowing when to abandon the pass for decent scramble yardage.

Bowe- Hes been really working hard lately in practice and it shows! his hands are steady and confident, and IMO he looks like a different receiver than we saw the first few games after the bye week. Not only that but Weis has him running quicker routes and the Bowe/Cassel timing has been very successful lately. No more clutch play drops and to the contrary, is making hard catches look easy.

Running game - well what to say.. Charles shows hes not just a speed demon but can throw off tackles week after week. People got on my case this thread to say that a fumble and a dropped pass was worth more caution than some dangerous throws over the middle, but i say that his performance and numbers this game and week after week speak for themselves. Obviously hes not going to make EVERY play but he makes so many great/big plays, particularly when they are needed, that its hard to say that there are more confident places to put the football. Hes stepped up big in DMC's absence and is really impressing people. A lot of the Bowe TD catches are set up largely from solid running by charles up the field the prior 8 plays of the drive.

Jones - well, I still feel like his performance is lackluster. I like that Charles is being mixed up with SOMEONE, but Jones just doesnt seem to be able to do much without a huge hole. He had some good runs in the last drive and i think that can be largely attributed to a very tired SEA D-line. I am very anxious to get DMC back into that mixup as well.

Special Teams was a bit disasterous first half. We completely dominated in yardage, time of possession, etc in first half and because of ST blunders the halftime score was 7-7. We still seem to have a really hard time giving Arenas some breathing room to make a catch let alone a return.

Secondary - Hey theyre young and ****ed up on several occasions today, but there were a lot of big plays today as well. Hasselback is no slouch and there were a few close calls, but none that id attribute in particular to being 'lucky', there was definitely a decent effort here, but still has a lot of room for improvement.

I had a blast watching, and admittedly i had a bit of a nervous sweat in the beginning of the second half, but i did not feel the same doom and gloom that i felt in previous games. They were playing too well to go all emo and start cutting myself and stuff.

ctchiefsfan
11-28-2010, 07:43 PM
We're improving almost every week. Keep this up, get the secondary healthy and we could make a serious run in the playoffs.

I cant believe how awesome of games Bowe (and Cassel) are having considering we don't really have another significant WR threat.

Big Nasty Shaun Smith had a good day too.

I still would like to see Charles get a little more early carries tho. Im mean my god his yards/carry are freakish.

2ndary did good without flowers. with the exception of that bomb seek****s got away with.
