Whether Matt Cassel (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8644) can play or not after having an appendectomy this week, expect the Chiefs to feed San Diego a heavy dose of Jamaal Charles (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11307) in this crucial AFC West game.
Charles has had great success against the Chargers. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Charles has averaged 9.2 yards per rush outside the tackles with two touchdowns and nine first downs against the Chargers. The Chiefs averaged 7.3 yards per rush on 14 rush attempts outside the tackles against the Chargers in Week 1. San Diego has toughened in that area since, however. The Chargers have allowed opponents to average 4.0 yards per rush on the perimeter since Week 2. Still, expect the Chiefs to try their luck Sunday, starting with Charles.
Charles has clearly become the Chiefs’ lead back. He has 418 rushing yards in the past four games. Thomas Jones (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=2138) hasn’t had a 100-yard game since Oct. 24. Still, Charles and Jones are a good tandem. Charles has 1,137 yards rushing, which is third in the NFL. Jones has 775. Charles is averaging 6.2 yards per carry and Jones is averaging 4.1 yards per tote. Charles is on pace (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/predicting-week-14-nfl-games-football-picks-120610)to join the great Jim Brown by accomplishing a rare feat.
It’s easy to tell why Kansas City has the No. 1 ranked run offense in the NFL.
