iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:07 PM
perfect omen to a terrible season. fumble on opening return.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:09 PM
And now berry is hurt great just freaking great could this start any worse?

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:11 PM
And now eric berry shaken up.

A big thanks btw to the folks in the 'wheres a streaming link' to proving up some working links ^_^.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:12 PM
matt - the games still early, plenty more to still go wrong :/

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:13 PM
Horrible start at least berry came back and wasn't hurt to bad.

loyalchief91
09-11-2011, 01:13 PM
Wow we ****ing suck

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:14 PM
Looks like Arenas failed on coverage. I think that was his guy.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:14 PM
matt - the games still early, plenty more to still go wrong :/

And plenty more can go right. Lets just hope that's the only thing that does go wrong today.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:15 PM
that may have been the most pathetic season opener ive witnessed in some 15+ years of almost any team. :S

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:16 PM
matt - lets hope that we got that crap out of the way now :) still, one always hopes to open a new season and not slap their forehead saying "oyyy its the chiefs again"

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 01:16 PM
Well, ESPN was right about the D line having trouble putting pressure on QB's.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:17 PM
That's a stupid rule they don't get penlized basicly at all for there foul

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:18 PM
wow nice pope, makin the rest of the guys on the field look freaking TINY!

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:21 PM
teehee - cassel doin his 'overthrown' thang - and then holds on to the ball for a sack. :(

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:22 PM
The ds got to step up on this drive. I don't like how this is going so far. LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN 3 and OUT

loyalchief91
09-11-2011, 01:22 PM
Not good not good at all. Pass protection is ridiculous

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:25 PM
Is Berry having some serious issues or what? second time down on the field in the first half of the first quarter!

loyalchief91
09-11-2011, 01:25 PM
Not a fan of this run defense either.. Berry hurt AGAIN

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:28 PM
finally some sort of containment. Hali gettin some spotlight in the game

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:28 PM
come on D get off the field

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:29 PM
Now lets just hope the offense gets going here.

loyalchief91
09-11-2011, 01:30 PM
3 and out !

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:32 PM
berry leaving the field. cassel has some nice motion but no completion. wheres the run game?

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:33 PM
now a horrible punt can anything eles go wrong?

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:34 PM
terrrrribleeeee calllll - that fooled noone, you cant make that play without getting some bodies out there to block. what are they trying to get charles hurt? id be throwing glass bottles if i were in arrowhead right now

loyalchief91
09-11-2011, 01:34 PM
The Bills are way more prepared for this game then us

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:35 PM
this just looks bad, cant make any tackles on the line, and they bust through for +6 or 7 yards.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:36 PM
holding on hali

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:36 PM
Well at least the D is keeping us in the game right now but we can't keep them on the field the whole game the offense has got to get a drive going.

figcrostic
09-11-2011, 01:36 PM
The Bills are way more prepared for this game then us

That's an understatement we look like we are still preseason mode. We need to establish the run, we are not a pass team, and our O-line still looks terrible (I bet pioli kicking himself he picked up a safety instead of Okung)

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:37 PM
holding on hali

That was big time holding they got away with.

KCraised
09-11-2011, 01:38 PM
Hmmmm, i guess preseason told the story alittle more than people want to admit. Shouldve to gameplan for them alittle more, Haley.
God, I hope Berry isn't hurt seriously

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 01:39 PM
I don't know why Buffalo is wasting time throwing the ball. They can get 5-8 yards every carry.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:39 PM
ok - got 3 yards on that but i liked the play - setting up for a big reverse play.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:40 PM
3 and out again we are going to wear out the d at this rate

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:40 PM
lets not be afraid to run on 3rd downs. too many cassel overthrows on 3rd down.

figcrostic
09-11-2011, 01:40 PM
That was almost an awesome catch

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:41 PM
that was a good redemption punt.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:42 PM
That was almost an awesome catch

Yes it was to bad almost doesn't get us anything.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:44 PM
ok D - gettin fired up. reminding me a lot of last year so far. D savin O's butthole. lets get another stop on 3rd

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:44 PM
nope - gave up a 3rd and 10'ish. *sigh*

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:45 PM
well this is going horribley

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:46 PM
jesus - somethings never change. getting cut up in the secondary by the bills :(

figcrostic
09-11-2011, 01:46 PM
We are getting beat by one of the crappiest teams in the NFL

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:47 PM
that was a slight pushoff looking at the replay

loyalchief91
09-11-2011, 01:47 PM

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 01:49 PM
Wow getting killed by the Bills. This is hard to watch.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:50 PM
maybe it takes an early spanking by one of the weaker teams in the league to kick us in the nuts and wake the f*** up.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:53 PM
wheres that policemen Chiefs fan guy today? he was all over these threads last season.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:53 PM

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:55 PM

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:55 PM

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:55 PM

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:58 PM
oh wow - announcer has a good point on the toe touch. toe definitey hits first.

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 01:58 PM
It'll be overruled.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 01:58 PM
Damn what eles can go wrong?

NKChiefs
09-11-2011, 01:58 PM

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 01:59 PM
His toe hit first so it should be good.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 01:59 PM
sorry thats bull**** - that was a good catch.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 02:00 PM

NKChiefs
09-11-2011, 02:00 PM

loyalchief91
09-11-2011, 02:00 PM
****in bull****

iratefan
09-11-2011, 02:01 PM
****ing retarded. cassel needs a coach refresh from last year about how to get MOVING. what a blow hard drive that was. the horse**** carries on this year it seems.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 02:03 PM
we need a turnover. or an angelic intervention. or perhaps a cocaine buffet on the sidelines.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 02:05 PM
hmm. no holding calls so far this game? hmmm.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 02:09 PM
this is just pathetic. no penetration and getting cut up the secondary all day long.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 02:11 PM
MUST score drive here going into half. WE HAVE TO SCORE to have a shot.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 02:13 PM
matt - yep. This isnt a comeback team. if we dont get something good happening im not going to continue to waste my time watching.

iratefan

we can only hope that gets overturned

yep - our only hope to salvage our dignity at this point.

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 02:18 PM
If you lose at home to the 30th ranked team to start the season, you have some serious problems. This is worse than just another loss. Yes, I am officially putting a fork in this m***** f*****.

iratefan
09-11-2011, 02:19 PM
well folks - that was a complete abortion of a season opener. maybe ill catch you all next week. wish you all well.

OMGLadyGaga
09-11-2011, 02:21 PM
Ugh, this is disgusting......Just like last year's season opener when we beat SD, you could kinda tell it was gonna be a special season. This year, I get a sense of what kind of season this is gonna be. Very dissapointing

SIC J
09-11-2011, 02:22 PM
Chiefs need a TD before the half and then need to start playing like they want to be there!!!!

kcnation
09-11-2011, 02:22 PM
i can;t believe how pathetic the chiefs are, preseason was not a fluke,we are really bad this year.i can;t stand this game anymore.sorry people but we are sad this year

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 02:23 PM
Let's see Steelers/Ravens or Falcons/Bears.

Yoda
09-11-2011, 02:23 PM
You, Cassel is playing hurt and hurting his team

KCraised
09-11-2011, 02:26 PM
This play calling is s***. Thats why you dont pay a guy
to call plays that never has in his 34 yr coaching career....just sickening

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 02:26 PM
This is starting to look like the offense we saw last year to bad they waited till we were down 20 to show up

KCraised
09-11-2011, 02:27 PM
Preseason DOES show strengths and weaknesses.

SIC J
09-11-2011, 02:28 PM

I need to settle down.....close your eyes, breathhhhhe deep and think happy thoughts....

OMGLadyGaga
09-11-2011, 02:29 PM
The only thing that gives me hope at this point is that we are playing the ******* Bills!!! Against any other team we'd be dead, but getting a touchdown here heading into the 2nd half down 2 scores despite having everything go wrong against a crappy team...we're not dead yet imo

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 02:30 PM
Touchdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NKChiefs
09-11-2011, 02:31 PM
Finally.... Touchdown......

NKChiefs
09-11-2011, 02:32 PM
Good that they scored before halftime.... will give some confidence....

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 02:32 PM
Still a whole 2nd half to play!

Well I suppose they might pull out a decent D line, running game and secondary out of their @$$ after the half. But the 30th ranked team in the NFL would just ***** slap them too.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 02:39 PM
Well The Chiefs killed themselfs in that half it wasn't anything really that the bills did that got them there lead. But if you keep giving an offense the ball in the redzone it's never good If the Chiefs can cut out the mistakes they can still get back in the game.

matthewschiefs
09-11-2011, 02:55 PM
Sack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

iratefan
09-11-2011, 02:56 PM

OMGLadyGaga
09-11-2011, 02:58 PM
It doesn't help that the Bills apparently have the greatest punter in the history of the nfl. Lets go chiefs....need a good solid drive, please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yoda

There's a difference in being a realist and using common logic. NO ONE has ever said Cassel is an elite QB. He is a GAME MANAGER. He did what he could in this game giving the plays he was told to run. In which in my opinion, the calls simply were not very good ones.

chief31
09-11-2011, 03:49 PM
Yeah, this is an illogical situation...

Just because you refuse to think any further than one position on the team does not mean that the whole thing is an enigma.

Did the early pressure on our QB factor in? The horrible defense? The inspired play of our opponent?

No?

It just has to be that the QB sucks?

Try this...

Advance your thinking beyond one player on a 53-man roster.

Xanathol
09-11-2011, 03:50 PM
This is on the coaches and staff.

From philosophy ( true 2 gap 3-4 D without the LBs / DL for it, going to a 2 down lineman set on long yardage downs ) to playcalling ( don't need to elaborate there ) to personnel ( Matt @ QB, no real NT, still a need @ 2 LB spots, etc ). The franchise is in bad shape - gonna be a long season.

azchiefsfan
09-11-2011, 03:51 PM
Poor play calling. Poor execution. Poor planning. Poor adjustments. Could this have been a worse game? Now just think about the fact that this is the 30th ranked team in the NFL.

Our saftey /linebacker play in pass coverage is beyond horrible..I cannot believe we let this bum Chandler destroy us..Did'nt we learn anything from the Todd Heap disaster last year in the playoffs? We better start doing a better job covering TE's or we are in big trouble.

Well, Chiefs fans.....wow

You do not deserve to have the name "Yoda" as your username.

Not a single player on this Chiefs team was ready to play. It's almost all on the coaching staff. Lockout hurt a lot but training camp was a joke.

Well, thank you for your enlightening me on your vast life/football philosophy. Feel alittle little grasshopper from "Kung Fu". Half of this is horrible frustration and the smack in the face we all got today. For that, sorry it put salt in open wounds. But im not going to sugarcoat it like all the "its just preseason"ers. They were all over the a**es of people that took preseason too seriously and were very sarcastic in thier responses.Just because they are chiefs doesnt mean they are grandfathered in. We all want more out of them, of course. But im calling it like I see it and I see Cassel as a decent backup, no more.

Is it bad that as a die hard Chiefs fan, I'm excited about possibly getting Andrew Luck?

Regardless, I know we all love Haley but eventually he has to bare the responsibility of this team's direction. They are regressing, it doesn't take a genius to know what our strengths and weaknesses are...a coach's job is to mask our weaknesses and playing to our strengths, which admittedly is hard to figure out what exactly our "srengths" are. Just feed Charles the ball 20+ times and keep our defense off the field, its really our only chance. :(

What a crappy day, seriously. Takes all the fun out of opening sunday of the NFL.

So, you aren't going to names when you point fingers, except for the guy may be the only player who wasn't horrible?

Oooo. Did he overthrow a pass? Nevermind that he completed two thirds of hi pass attempts, and nevermind all of the big plays that the intended receivers destroyed.

You just make sure not to name names, except to attack the only guy who looked like he belongs on a football field.

And, by all means, continue to think that you are wise while spouting off foolish remarks.

Look.... I don't expect this team to do alot this season.

But I don't point out our QB on a day when everything except for the QB was terrible.

Cassel did not look great, but certainly this game cannot be put completely on his shoulders.

There was the drop by Bowe, yet again! McCluster's fumble, but the offense overall was really not the biggest problem.

No, the biggest issue came from the defense, are these defensive players really professionals? There was absolutely no tackling, very little pass rush and the coverage on pass plays beyond atrocious.

3 and out on the offense was bad, but good greif, we got no play from the defense at all.

Conditioning! This team looked like a bunch of 1A college players. Pathetic!

This game is not a Matt Cassel loss. He put up decent numbers. Was he part of the problem with some overthrows yes. But Matt Cassel didn't fumble the opening kickoff. Matt Cassel didn't fumble and give the bills the ball inside the 25. This was a CHIEFS loss. PLAYERS COACHING STAFF neither did there jobs today. They made themselfs look like a joke with the way they preformed today. I am upset about this loss just like everyone eles but the season is not over. What needs to happen is this team gets pissed off over this loss and make the other teams we play pay for it.

Cassel wasn't/isn't the problem. So, frankly, I think you KCraised, are out on a limb with a chainsaw, feverishly cutting your own argument in half. Please explain what Cassel did that caused the loss. Let's try this: receivers could not get open and dropped passes. The running game got stuffed and they had no explosive ability. Our secondary could not keep pace with 3rd rate receivers. There was no such letdown by Cassel. He looked bad because no one was helping him. He could've forced passes and turned the ball over a 100 times, but he didn't. He tried to make plays and the skill players let him down. Cassel is our future. Get used to it.

You can find former greats saying good and bad things about almost every current player at their position.

My apologies for being rude. Today's game has a lot of us on edge.

And you are welcome to your opinion about Cassel. But, to pick him out, as he was likely the least horrible part of The Chiefs today, seems a little strange to me.

While there's no player without a little blame, this is almost entirely the coaching staff loss, pure and simple. Haley screwed up in preseason, getting Moeaki hurt (playing starters deep in the 4th preseason game!) and focusing on conditioning instead of playcalling. And in this game he quickly got away from our running game (Charles only rushed 10 times, and he had a 5.6 YPA!) and had Cassel (a game manager) throw it 36 times. I get fumbles got us down early, but we're not winning anything if Cassel throws 35+ times. Actually, we're now 0-9 when Cassel throws 35+ times. That isn't who he is.

That said, it wouldn't take a ton to turn us around. Pioli needs to take the offensive playcalling away from Haley, and we need a couple games to gel on the field as we didn't get that chance in preseason. But we have some talent and have very winnable games for the next eight (Detroit, SD twice, Indy, Minny, Oakland, Denver, Miami). If the coaching improves, things will get better.

Also, the Bills are a better team than everyone realizes. If their OL holds up, they can be a wild card team.

Keep in mind - neither did the bills....

Gailey's an offensive genius. He had his team practicing plays and formations the day the lockout ended. He turned Tyler Thigpen and Ryan Fitzpatrick into legit NFL starters.

Haley isn't an offensive genius. He focused on conditioning after the lockout (too late for that) and he handled the preseason games moronically. He's proving that a whole lot of people would look smart if they had Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, and Anquan Boldin to play with.

In case you can't tell, I'm not overly enthused about the Haley era. For all the **** I gave Herm Edwards, at least he made some good draft picks (better than I realized at the time). Except for Berry, Moeaki (stupid Haley), Asamoah, and Succop, it's not looking too great for the past three draft classes. And, frankly, the jury's still out on those four.

I NEVER said cassel single handedly lost this! Show me the post. I called out the whole team down to the waterboy. Then, later on, i saw yet another boneheaded cassel play, which he always looks like he is in panic, and said I thought he was an overrated overpaid backup qb, which he is. Quote that. Someone chose to call me out for saying he wasnt an elite quarterback. Well, im sure when Clark Hunt was writing out the monsterous check, im sure his agent referred to him as one on more than one occassion.
The defense couldnt get off the field on 3rd down to save its life. Colquitt scrubbed today (rare), then a missed fg even though it was a 49
Yd attempt, McCluster fumbles, Charles fumbles, special teams sucked, horrible play calling, wrong defensive schemes, etc, etc. Thats about as well rounded blame as I have seen in a longtime. I watched the game, btw. But 2 people picked up on that I pointed out Cassel as a crappy overpaid starter and acted like I said he single handedly lost the game. Im calling it like it is. One thing you are right about, is that we are stuck with him.

Bowe's "drop" was self defense - the only thing that saved his life as Cassel yet again led a receiver right into a path to be decapitated by a safety ( just enough out in front to have to reach for it with your head turned, with a safety coming full steam right at you ). Cassel over threw receivers, was off target in general, stared down receivers, oft stepped into a pass rush, and just generally flat out sucked. The only way one cannot see that is because they don't want to.

The offense kept the defense on the field, so you combine that with poor LB & NT play, completely lacking blitz packages, and this ridiculous 2 DL pass rushing set, and its a formula for failure. But even with all of the defense's downfalls, they were all magnified by an offense that couldn't stay on the field thanks to poor play calling, poor line play and most of all, horrible QB play.

With this kind of performance, you have to seriously question the head coach. After the HC, its the QB and KC doesn't have one. In this league, you will not be a contender without a decent QB.

You don't have to convince me of anything you wrote. Bowe, while he did drop a pass, was not even remotely instrumental in this game, because of the poor defensive play.

Ultimately, I am with you, our coaching staff has never been a favorite of mine. I was a little relieved with Haley last year, but sometimes wonder if what was a product of Charlie Weiss more than Todd Haley.

At any rate, this team was not ready to play this weekend, there is no question about that, neither on offense nor defense, not even on special teams. There is more at issue here than what one week will fix. It will be a bad season I fear.

You're being unfair to Cassel (though the rest is pretty spot on). Cassel is a good game managing QB. He won't win you many games, but he won't lose you many games either. He's efficient, smart, and a good leader, but he isn't winning a lot of two-minute drills.

He certainly no worse than the likes of Doug Williams, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypian, Trent Dilfer, or Brad Johnson. He's able to manage us to a SB if we have a good enough defense and run game. We don't, obviously, though.
