That's the first TD the Chiefs D has allowed in over 9 quarters. And it happened right after McGraw left the game with an injury!

azchiefsfan

This makes all those three and outs, when SD couldn't move the ball, that much more painful.

Chiefs Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, they did!!

I'm so amazed at the pessimism on this board. It's football, and it's not over until it's over. You guys just refuse to believe this team is as good as it is.

The defense slowed down the Chargers when the offense was struggling and the offense came through at the end. The Chargers are a pretty good team. But so are the Chiefs and we are tied for 1st place.

Somehow, try to find a way to enjoy it.

Well..... It wasn't a kneel down. They were blocking, it was a run play.

But yeah. A miracle-investigation may be required here.

Except that it wasn't a Kneel-down. He was trying to win the game in regulation, as were the Chiefs after the fumble. There were lots of fumbles tonight. None of the others were miracles, were they?

The O-line was run-blocking. They were even pulling the outside WR as a lead blocker.

Do you ever read the preceding posts before trying to play the gotcha game? Jaworski first mentioned it looked like he was going to kneel for the placement of the kick. It's safer than handing off, usually.

Yeah, you realize that context would matter, right?

How many of those five were in easy, game-winning situations, without the defense causing the fumble, by a superstar QB?

Again though, it doesn't matter. All that really matters is that The Chiefs have risen from the depths of disgustingness to first place.

I'll have to agree that there were many blown calls/no calls by the refs again tonight, as there have been all season, not just when the Chiefs played. Fortunately though, they were able to overcome the adversity and get a win, thanks to "cry me a river" Rivers.

I'd say the Chiefs offense played great in the first quarter, but after that, and like some of their other games, were extremely quiet until the 4th quarter. They didn't have a running a game and Cassel was unable to get anything going with his receivers. Their defense was playing great there until Rivers was making his comeback. They were able to shut Gates down for the most of the night with their double coverage, and didn't really give up anything too big until later in the game. Flowers once again showed why he is easily one of the best cover backs in the NFL today, while Derrick Johnson continued making a name for himself; Tomba Hali was playing as great as ever, and if not for being held constantly, like every game, he'd be the NFL sack leader no problem.

I've been watching the Chiefs for 22 years and I would have to say this game had the oddest outcome I've witnessed. Hopefully KC can keep coming up with wins for the rest of the season, but we'll see. Their next 2 games should be a breeze, with the real challenge of Tom Brady and the Patriots, but if they watch what the Steelers did to him, and can duplicate it to some extent (they have some talent in their secondary), we could possibly pull out an upset.

It was true they did put themselves in a bad position at times, but I feel that due to some insanely terrible calls/no calls/challenges, they probably wouldn't have been in that position. Good luck next week vs those 0-7 Dolphins! >.>

Great 1st post and welcome to ChiefsCrowd.com!

They didn't have much of a running game, but they still managed to put up 94 uds rushing. Battle probably should have gotten more carries but it's hard to stay committed to the run when it's not working. Fortunately the defense did just enough to keep them in the game and the offense made some great plays with the passing game when they really needed it.

Good game on both sides of the ball. Not great, but good enough to win it.

I'm happy.

To be quite honest, I shut off my television with about :60 left on the game clock, assuming that the Chargers would just run it and get into better field goal range. I decided to look up the forums to see some opinions about how terrible the officiating crew was on the 2 "fumbles" and challenges, along with the OBVIOUS face mask and pass interference, and any others. I was reading this post and something about a "miracle" was posted and how someone loved Rivers. I turned on the TV and was shocked to see what happened. I had to yell at everyone else that had already gone to sleep and inform them that the game was going into OT.

I'd love it if they were able to shut some people up about not being able to win against teams with a winning record (even though the Raiders were in fact 4-2), but they don't understand that that's how it works out and no one can predict the future. What they also fail to comprehend is we lost the NFLs best rusher of 2010 (even if he didn't have the most yards, his average was godlike), an up and coming tight end, and a rookie pro bowl corner. When you lose leaders and good players, it's hard to make up for that unless people step up, which I believe some of them are trying to do.

This how every network approaches Kansas City and that's partly due to the fact that it is a midwest team in a smaller market. They don't think that they have many fans outside this market, thus they don't give them the face time they may deserve.

All they could talk about last year was how they were just a bunch of pretenders, and then patted themselves on the back when they lost to the Ravens. I don't think they will get much respect until they win a Super Bowl, and even then, it won't last long.

Just look at the Cardinals: same market, next to no talk besides the fact they won. If it had been something like the Yankees winning, they'd be talking about them every where and about the parades, the Sport's Illustrated special, the commercials, endorsements, and the like. All they really talked about was them surprising people by winning and La Russa retiring. Give it a week and no one will even know they won.

Small market? Football is the only thing in KC.

Yes, small market. When you compare the fan base to say, San Diego, we are small. Why do you think the Cowboys get talked about so much, even though Romo stinks and Dallas isn't very good? They have more money potential and much higher fan base. You can see this is in every sport in the US; the teams with a larger market will always get the majority of TV time compared to teams that have a more local fan base.

You can see this is in every sport in the US; the teams with a larger market will always get the majority of TV time compared to teams that have a more local fan base.

Thats cause there is more people actually living there. Kansas City is small compared to Dallas, but there sure are a hell of a alot of fan out there...and we love our football here. I don't know where your from but back in the day when the Chiefs were REALLY good, it was like a religon...still is for me. And infact when I was at Target and Khols today there were alot of people wearing Chiefs gear.

Like what was said after, and what you said at first, that was my point. Smaller market, smaller fan base, less money, less TV time. I live in Des Moines, Iowa, so only a few hour drive from KC, and I understand how it is a religion. I've bled football since I was able to read and understand what was going on on the TV. I live football; I loathe the off-season. I think the most TV time the Chiefs have had, was when Trent Green was QB and they had the most powerful offense in the NFL. Unfortunately they were held back by their defense. Even in the '90s, when they had Montana and one of the best defenses, they still didn't get a whole lot of attention.

These two teams have had more games decided by a single point more than any other division rivalry. We now lead all time against S.D. 52-51-1 and all the shows want to talk about is: "is Tebow right for the donks?" I mean COME ON MAN!!!!!

Well they also talked about how the Chargers are so good. Think they need to check that score again

I made that fumble happen. 3 plays earlier I put a hex on them. I rubbed the logo on my hat and said "wed wabbit, wed wabbit, wed wabbit. Fumble, fumble fumble. Wed Wabbit wed wabbit wed wabbit."

And it worked!

You da man! :D

These announcers have been biased the entire game.

I could care less about their opinion. They whined, and whined about the offensive pass interference by Gates. Was it a little ticky-tacky? Yeah, but Gates arms where extended creating separation between Gates and the defender. As I recall the Chiefs had more than their fair share of BS calls. That fumble by McCluster (I think) should have been ruled down by contact.

I hate 2 QB's in the NFL Rivers and Brady. They are both whiny losers and arrogant spoiled boys when winning.

You forgot Payton Manning.

No, we didn't.

No, It's not.

Have faith.

Then why are they srill playing?

Yes, they did!!

I'm so amazed at the pessimism on this board. It's football, and it's not over until it's over. You guys just refuse to believe this team is as good as it is.

The defense slowed down the Chargers when the offense was struggling and the offense came through at the end. The Chargers are a pretty good team. But so are the Chiefs and we are tied for 1st place.

Somehow, try to find a way to enjoy it.

This and...

Matt Cassel was money tonight.

The rest of the offense was fighting him for most of the night. But he was exceptional.

...this!!!! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Well..... It wasn't a kneel down. They were blocking, it was a run play.

But yeah. A miracle-investigation may be required here.

After careful and exhaustive investigation it has indeed been ruled a miracle! :chiefs:

I was actually fearful of the same thing happening to us as we moved the ball intp field goal range that happened to Rivers when they had moved the ball deep into Chiefs territory.

Same here. I kept thinking about that fumble, with each snap we took.

When Haley opted to kick on 3rd down, I was more than happy with not going for the 1st.

Oh man you and me both. I was never more happy to see the field goal unit run out on the field.

One last thought on the out of bounds pass. The rule states that if it is to avoid an imminent sack. I got lost in the argument and forgot the main point of why that was not grounding. The key to grounding is often stated by refs when they call it: "In the grasp". He was not in the grasp and no one was imminently going to sack him, therefore he was NOT avoiding a sack. NO SACK-NO PENALTY. So you are completely wrong and I was right, but got lost in trying to explain why it is never called in that situation.

Not me I was wanting them to get the TD and not have to rely on the kicker. But I was happy with the way it ended.

Yeah but once they got inside the twenty you know that's a chip shot for Succop.
