that would be a good fit for him. they need a solid receiver though and peyton loves his tight ends wich they do not have a good one .but i think he is going to take the division he would be playing in into consideration as well as the team.one knock against miami is that new england is in the division.minesota has detroit gb and chicago.who knows but if clark is serious about getting a better than average qb.you would think peyton would take a good hard look at kc and the afc west

Report: Peyton Manning will be cut by Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/report-peyton-manning-cut-colts-wednesday-231935941.html)

The move has been in the works ever since it became apparent that the Colts would be in a position to draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. Still, as recently as seven months ago, Manning being released by the Colts would have been unthinkable.
He was the face of the Indianapolis Colts franchise, the man who resurrected a team that spent most of its 13 previous years in the city as an NFL also-ran. Indy landed the No. 1 pick of the 1997 draft and used it to take Archie Manning's son, a football player pegged for greatness ever since he stepped on a high school field.

Nobody has mentioned them because they have a franchise quaterback in Christian Ponder and while the Jets may be willing to throw Sanchez 'under the bus' to bring in Manning, I doubt Minnesota would do it to Ponder

The Chargers have Phillip Rivers, the Broncos have Tim Tebow, the Raiders have Carson Palmer. Do you really think any of those teams would try to pick up Manning? Maybe Denver, but I doubt it. If he ends up in the AFC West, it will be with the Chiefs. Houston, San Fransisco, and Kansas City appear to me to be the 3 top landing spots for Peyton.

If you mean those teams are the best in weak divisions, then yes. But I dont think SF or Houston want Peyton.
Houston seems happy with Matt Schaub and TJ Yates even did a pretty good job after being the 3rd stringer and having both the #1 and #2 QBs go down with injuries.
SF seems pretty happy with Alex Smith's development last year under Harbaugh. He was pretty good in the playoffs.

Don't get me wrong, I think KC is the perfect fit for Manning. Just saying for the situation he's probably looking for there are 3 teams that fit the bill. 49ers have yet to re-sign Alex Smith. It does seem that they want him back though. I would love to bring in Manning, Saturday, and Wayne though. If Saturday doesn't retire, as expected.

Pretty much restating my post from earlier but here it is....

- Arizona plays in a dome

-Warm Weather, he hates the cold

-Mannings former QB coach is now there

-Weak Division

They went to the super bowl with Warner a few years ago, they still have the talent to do so with a capable qb.

Chiefs +/-

Cold Weather

Play on grass

Talented team

Even though we signed routte we wont Sign Reggie Wayne or Jeff Saturday, no idea why saturday actually makes sense here.

-San Diego, if you look at peytons history he doesnt have a great W/L record against the bolts.

I dont think he will end up in miami because of tom brady, I dont think he wants to play in a tough division like the AFC East.

I do think it is between AZ and us, with AZ being the leader, i may be wrong but that is the way i am seeing it

+ CHIEFS have best corps of receivers of teams in hunt, 3 wr w/potential to be as good w/a qb like manning throwing to them as he had in indy.
+ manning loves to throw to the te and the CHIEFS have a really good one
+ w/manning the CHIEFS become the prohibitive fav. to win their division....as do the cards.
+the CHIEFS are 1 RT away from having a good O line and a RT and G away from a really good one, that can be done in this draft
+ the CHIEFS have the best D of the teams in the hunt
+ the CHIEFS have the best running back
+ the CHIEFS have the best Mcluster in the bunch
--- Kansas City has wind, rain, cold, and snow
+++Manning & the colts have always beaten the CHIEFS in the playoffs,[painful memories], there could be the opportunity for PAYBACK if they meet again!!!!:chiefs:

Peyton Manning lands in Miami; media frenzy ensues

MIAMI—Touchdown, Peyton Manning.

The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback landed late Wednesday afternoon in South Florida, drawing the attention of local TV news helicopters and NFL fans everywhere.

His private plane arrived at a small airport 30 minutes from the Miami Dolphins' complex, but he then rode off in a different direction with the news media in pursuit. When his van reached Miami Beach, it pulled over in a church parking lot, and Manning emerged to tell reporters South Florida might not be his final destination.

Manning has a condo here and has been working out with former Colts teammate Reggie Wayne, who lives in South Florida. Manning's not necessarily Dolphins-bound, he said.

What do y'all think the package coming back to KC would look like if they decided to sign Reggie Wayne and trade away Dwayne Bowe?

I think you're looking at a baseline of a first rounder... but where in the first round? As you know (or SHOULD know), draft positions are placed on a point scale to help establish what their value is. So, what would Bowe's value be?

Personally, I think Bowe would be worth the #12-#16 overall pick. I know Jap thinks Dorsey is worth a late first. I'd put him in the 26-32 range. So, let's say we put Bowe in the middle and gets #14 overall value at 1100pts. Now, we put Dorsey in the middle and he gets #29 value at 640pts. That gives the Chiefs 1740 pts to play with... PLUS, their #11 overall pick.

We've signed Manning and the general feeling around the league is that he's a package deal with Wayne (who replaces Bowe). I realize Bowe may be the better of the two WRs and probably has the better upside going forward, but I'm making Manning happy... and in keeping with that theme, I pick up the phone and call St. Louis who has the #2 overall pick and who also has needs at WR AND 4-3 DT. The #2 overall pick is worth 2600 points.

The Rams get:
#11 overall (1st rd) 1250pts
Dwayne Bowe 1100pts
Glenn Dorsey 640pts

Total points (2990)

The Chiefs get:
#2 overall (1st rd) 2600 pts
#33 overall (1st pick 2nd rd) 380pts
#194 overall 13.2 pts (7th rd)

Total points (2993)

The deal comes out to a 3 pt difference which could be made up by boosting the values of Dorsey and/or Bowe a touch.

With the 2nd pick in the draft, the Chiefs take LT Matt Kalil before the Vikings get the chance.

#33 overall the Chiefs take C Peter Konz

#44 overall the Chiefs take ILB Mychal Kendricks

Kalil, Asomoah, Konz, Hudson, Albert, Moeaki
Manning
Wayne, Baldwin, Breaston
Charles

The idea is to get a young, talented offensive line to play and grow up together. Add a little depth in the middle rounds in future drafts and you've got an O-line that can protect ANY QB for a long time to come.

Just a thought.

Interesting trade ideas. That would probably give us one of the best and youngest OL in the league.

I see two flaws:

1) St Louis is looking for more than what the trade value chart says their pick is worth. Reportedly (according to an article I read on ESPN) they are looking for what come out to close to 3000 pts. Based on that we would have to let them keep their 2nd round pick. That wouldnt be too big of a problem since we could probably go after Nicks or Grubbs, or one of the other FA C's/Gs in the league. And honestly, I wouldnt be too upset if we didnt replace Lilja (now, if we didnt replace B.Richardson, then I would have a complaint).

2) That is giving up a lot for an offensive tackle. Granted he is one of the best in awhile, but you are losing 2 key positions (granted one is being replaced) to upgrade one position.

Another possibility to accomplish the same thing would be to trade with Minnesota directly. Why go for the #2 pick? Everyone is fighting for that pick in order to grab RG3. Why get involved in all the overbidding that is bound to happen. Trade with the Vikings. They have enough needs (specifically they need a WR and a DT) that they might be willing to take the trade the way you wrote it, and we would get to draft the same players.

I thought about the Vikings as well, but I have a tough time believing they'd walk away from the best LT prospect since Jake Long... although, Dorsey, Bowe, and #11 would do the job if they were willing.

I'm willing to ride with Allen Bailey at the DE spot to replace Dorsey. He was a steal in the 3rd last year and showed signs of putting it all together. If he had "put it all together" a year earlier, he would've been drafted in the top 10 overall. This kid is incredibly talented and more than capable of replacing Dorsey at DE.

The only way I'd be willing to give up all three is if we get TWO picks in the first two rounds. #3 and #35 overall would suffice.

Pretty much restating my post from earlier but here it is....

- Arizona plays in a dome
I give you this one..as I quoted it as the reason he may go there over us.
-Warm Weather, he hates the cold
Read above--> dome=no cold weather while they're playing in there. Indy has winter too, so outside of playing football in it, he dealt with winter for 14 years.
-Mannings former QB coach is now there
There is one I didn't know, thank you!
-Weak Division
You call a 3 way tie at 8-8 a strong division???
They went to the super bowl with Warner a few years ago, they still have the talent to do so with a capable qb.

I used to crap my diapers, and if I squeeze into some Depends, I am still capable of doing so. What's the point? (btw that was TOTALLY a joke in case anyone missed it :smile)

Chiefs +/-

Cold Weather---minus, all the way a minus, we know that one

Play on grass----Peyton has said how me misses playing on grass

Talented team--i'd venture to Very Talented, and building!

Even though we signed routte we wont Sign Reggie Wayne or Jeff Saturday, no idea why saturday actually makes sense here. I don't if we wouldn't sign Saturday, but drafting some OL has to be on the ticket, and maybe a FA too, so that will be addressed, we don't need Wayne, unless he'd come cheap.

-San Diego, if you look at peytons history he doesnt have a great W/L record against the bolts.
Our coaching staff has that covered. He didn't play them twice a year every year.
I dont think he will end up in miami because of tom brady, I dont think he wants to play in a tough division like the AFC East.
Completely agree with you on that one too

I do think it is between AZ and us, with AZ being the leader, i may be wrong but that is the way i am seeing it

Man I kinda hacked up your quote there to try to wiggle in my short and kind of incomplete thoughts a few pages ago. I don't really disagree with you on a lot, I also don't think there is any real reason aside of playing outdoors in the weather, which will be our one HUGE negative to Peyton.
I hope all the plus side overcomes that one negative!!!:bananen_smilies046:

It's encouraging that we were the only team prepared to offer him a deal, right away. That doesn't mean it will be the best offer he receives or that he will take it, but it might give us an edge.

I'm ambivalent about signing him at this point. I would like to see his recovery progress more first, but I understand that may not be an option. If we sign him, for a reasonable amount, it could work out very well, or very badly. If we don't get him, I won't be too upset about that either.

All we need is a healthy quarterback who can throw the ball, and a couple of offensive linemen, and a nose tackle, and a running back to complement Jamaal Charles, and ...

But i think we can take care of those other needs, this year. If Manning can throw the ball, that would be great. But if he can't, or he re injures his neck in game two then we are screwed. We are back to having no depth at QB and nobody to compete with and challenge Cassel to play better. That's a risk that, it appears, most people are willing to take.

One, two, three....not it!

It's a combination for me, Manning's age, not having played for over a year and a half, random video's showing him throwing a ball deep, reports that he's not at 100%, having to learn an new offense, learning what those players do on that offense and developing chemistry with them, FOUR neck surgeries and that any hit could not only remove him not only as a QB but remove him from being able to walk or worse.

Yes I understand that any hit can end a players career but this is one that will be under scrutiny from the first snap he takes until he's taken the last snap he'll ever take.

Positive. They have been to two superbowls together, if Casey does indeed retire bringing in Saturday on a one year contract would make sense as well.

I still think Manning ends up in Miami. Denver is too cold and Arizona is in the NFC so he would have to face Eli much more often and they might be knocking one or the other out in the playoffs. It's also possible (although unlikely) that Peyton hasn't come to KC because we already went to him. He might be comparing DEN, ARI, and MIA to KC and if he's still interested in us, he'll come by. If he shows up in KC tomorrow, expect a really good news conference from him on Tuesday!

As for Orton, I don't think he wants to play here with Cassel expected to be the starter. He could probably beat Matt out for the starting job, but may want to go somewhere where he has less competition. If he just wants to be handed the starting job, then I don't want him, anyway. But if he is willing to earn it, that would be great for the Chiefs.

I am also starting to think we may be out of the hunt....and I see a potential upside to this. It would leave us a lot more money to sign our own and other FAs. I suspect it would mean we could keep Carr and Bowe and still have money to go hunting in the FA market.

As much as I like the idea of having a superstar QB, getting Manning and a FA or two to complement him would mean giving up a lot of long term potential to get what amounts to at most a 3 year run.

Do you "risk it all" on a 3 year roll of the dice or do you build for a shot at a dynasty.

Tough choice coming off years of mediocrity.

Glad I don't have to make the decision.

I agree with all of this.

except ...

It's not a tough decision for me at all. If you told me we could be really good for the next two years, but no guarantee of winning a Super Bowl, or we could keep building and getting better, and in a year or two we will have the young talented pieces in place to be really good for the next 10 years, I would take the latter in a heartbeat. The Patriots make the playoffs almost every year. They don't always win the Super Bowl, but they have more chances to win the Super Bowl because of it.

If you look at what we did at the end of the year, without many of our best players (Charles, Berry, Moeoki and our staring QB) against teams like the Packers and the Steelers, as well as teams in our division, you can see that we are very close to being a great team. Use that boatload of cash (and the draft) to keep developing the team for the long term and we can be great for many years to come.

Exactly the point I was trying to make....however inarticulately.

Even without Manning I think we have a legitimate shot at having a team that can make the playoffs for many years to come and I don't know if I'd want to trade that for a 2-3 year flash in the pan with Manning.

Credit where credit is due. After the "Montana Era", its hard not to get hopped up about the idea of getting Manning, but I would take 8 playoff berths in 10 years over Manning any day of the week. I figure I have at least 20 more years as a Chiefs fan left in me and I've no interest in trading a Superbowl appearance in the next 2 years for 10 years of mediocrity after the Super Bowl appearance.

Looks like we are out of it, it is between denver and arizona, oh well. Say hi to another .500 season

We just about went .500 without many of our Key players. Not getting Manning won't kill this team. Even getting him won't promise anything more then what we have now. What if his neck can't take the hits of a NFL season? Either way I Think we are going to have a good season this year. We will be a deeper team after free agency and the draft. I can't wait for the season to start

Chiefs are the best team in the division. Better than the Donks with Manning. MMO is a fool. We still win the division next year even if the Donks have Manning. A little more talent through the draft, a FA or two, and we OWN the AFC West for 10 years.

Report: Tim Tebow gone in Denver if Peyton Manning signs with Broncos

Despite last season's playoff run and intense national interest, the Denver Broncos don't plan to keep quarterback Tim Tebow if they can sign Peyton Manning, according to a published report.

The report from Pro Football Talk, which cited an unidentified "source with knowledge of the dynamics in Denver," said the team prefers to trade Tebow rather than release him.

According to another Sunday report, Manning is down to two teams—and the Broncos are one of them.

the other is AZ. we could finish Tebow's training here. would the top Chiefs consider him???

I think this whole situation could be just a brilliant negotiation strategy by Condon. You've got one of the best QBs in NFL history hitting the free agent market. You know who your suitors are going to be. You've got Miami, Kansas City, and Seattle as primary suitors. So, how do you get the most buck for the bang out these 3 teams?

How bout you go visit their division rivals? Manning's interest in Arizona and Denver defies conventional logic. Are you going to go negotiate with a team in Arizona who's already $16MM OVER the cap if you're trying to get the kind of money he's asking? How bout Denver? We know they've got the cap space to pull the trigger, but they also play in the coldest stadium in the league, at the highest altitude, and already have the infallible Tim Tebow in place that you're going to have barking down your back if you happen to falter as you did early in 2010. Doesn't make too much sense.

BUT, if you put out a statement stating that your client is going to make a decision in less than a week and create a false sense of urgency around the country among front office personnel and fanbases, THEN, go and visit those places to drive up the panic and price, your chances of landing a bigger contract because of a panic move by a rival GM is more likely. We've already seen the Manning camp come out and say the decision probably won't be Tuesday afterall.

You need to be watching the other hand. These guys COULD be showing the public one thing while negotiating in private on a completely other wavelength. If I were Manning and I'm leaning towards Kansas City as the place where I want to play football, but I also want the best contract possible, why wouldn't I go visit Denver first? Why wouldn't I leak something to a Denver reporter that said the Chiefs were out? Those kinds of things are only going to raise the anxiety level at Arrowhead. If I want a contract that guarantees $12MM, why wouldn't I say I wanted $20MM?

These negotiations usually come down to who's going to blink first and Condon COULD be playing the best game of chicken in NFL history with this negotiation. He COULD be setting the pieces in position perfectly to make KC come over the top and offer the 12 or 13 Peyton realistically wants by flirting with the enemy and putting out false reports...

... or, the Chiefs really could be out of the race. All I'm saying is don't jump off the ledge yet. Look at this thing from another angle. The thing that really bothers me about Denver and Arizona is that they really aren't that great of fits for Peyton and it truly defies logic to think those two teams are the front runners considering their stadium and cap situation respectively.

OPLookn
03-12-2012, 06:07 PM

Excellent post, my friend. You just earned some "rep" from me! I've never considered the "rival" angle, but it fits. I still don't think he would be interested in playing in Seattle, and their coach said they don't want to panic over the QB decision, but if there is perceived interest there, I can see using it to drive up the contract (or other perks in the final deal).

I''m still not a big fan of getting Peyton and I don't think it is likely at this point, but who doesn't love a good "conspiracy theory?" :smile

But I can see your angle, and I agree...There are too many reports that don't match up...I really think EVERYONE is in the dark on this entire situation...

The other thing that baffles me is that report that said manning refused to come to arrowhead for a meeting? No reason given? The Chiefs were supposedly the first to offer a "Completed Contract" to Manning and Condon..sounds like they brought their "A" Game..
and Manning is supposedly looking for a team with high standards inside the building as well (which we have.)

but also you can't honestly tell me (all bias asside from me being a fan) that Denver or Arizona is a better place to be than KC??? Seriously???

The only thing AZ offers is a Dome and Fitzgerrald...Their D isn't good, and their O-line is even worse (gave up the most sack of any team last year)

And Denver??? has been built for an nontraditional power running offense, has a 32 year old workhorse back who is on his last leg, and has the receiving talent of an oompa loompa..I mean C'Mon Man!

And Denver??? has been built for an nontraditional power running offense, has a 32 year old workhorse back who is on his last leg, and has the receiving talent of an oompa loompa..I mean C'Mon Man!

something just doesn't seem right here

Denver and Az are a good fit for medical reasons according to cj. Low humidity and high altitude increase the healing and reduce the risk of arthritis.

Misinformation is POWER.
Something stinks. No public aknowledgement from the Chiefs camp that they are officially out? I mean, Peyton declined a meeting? That was reported over the weekend? And still no comment from the organization? Something is just not adding up:)

I agree with this. Which leads me to believe something is rotten in Denmark.

Peyton says it is not the money, we keep hearing about performance based contract etc., etc.. So why did he not restructure to stay with the Colts? if it was not the money(of course it is) why are we talking about him as a free agent?

The Colts (IMHO) saw something or are privy to info that told them he was not worth the $$ they signed him for. I will stop :beat_DeadHorse:ing this poor fellow.

I think you nailed it here. The Colts could have restructured his contract to keep him. I think I even read/heard he would be willing to do that to stay in Indy. That it didn't happen could mean two things.

1) Manning knew that there was no way his arm strength would recover enough to start over Andrew Luck.

or 2) The Colts could tell by his lack of progress that he would not be able to play this fall.

I think it's a combination of both.

The Colts released him as a favor, just like they kept him on the roster this season and paid him $26 mil...Yes some was money driven because of the $28 mil due on the 8th BUT both parties realized Peyton's career is almost over, and the direction the franchise was going in (re-building) both parties realized that he would not have a chance to compete for another championship before he was done. The Colts let him go because they knew it was his best opportunity to nab another championship.

The other question I just asked myself??

Not sure that any reports are true, but the one that said Peyton refused to make a trip to Arrowhead...If this is True, why aren't we doing what the Dolphins did and go to him instead of waiting and expecting he come to Arrowhead? Maybe we show we really want him, go meet with him, and that make's him re-think, and schedule a second meeting at Arrowhead.

Just wondering?

I think Manning is dragging this out to be the "queen of the ball". He's being a dick. He has had all the offers on the table for several days and weighed the pros and cons. He's either playing one team against the other or he's enjoying the diva treatment way too much. His behavior in all this has lowered him dramatically in my respect-o-meter. I'm glad he's not coming here, but this game he's playing is getting old.

I don't have the slightest problem with how Peyton is handling this.

He is being chased by several teams, and he is stopping by the cities to hear them out. Who wouldn't?

The mass of press coverage is not his doing.

He is just trying to make a very big decision, and only a fool doesn't put some time into that.
