Good morning! Peyton visited Denver, Washington traded for the #2 pick in the draft (and RGIII), the Jets extended Sanchez, and Clark Hunt told the world we want Manning. Yeah, yesterday was busy. We have all of that and a lot more in today's Kansas City Chiefs news. Read on.

If Denver pushes the envelope on an offer, that's going to effect the approach of the Chiefs, who are going to do whatever they can to make sure that if Manning doesn't end up in Arrowhead, he isn't playing in the mile high city either.

Oh, and while we didn't really need confirmation, Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt went on CNBC Friday night and made it plain he wanted Manning.

After New York "looked into" pursuing Manning, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum announced Friday night that the team extended Sanchez's contract by three years. The move ended speculation the Jets could push him aside to make way for the former Indianapolis Colts star who's now a free agent.

Ability to win now

Denver: The Broncos went from being 4-12 in 2010 to going 8-8 and winning a playoff game in 2011. With Manning and a few more pieces, the Broncos would be a threat to make a deep playoff run.

Kansas City: The Chiefs went 7-9 in 2011 despite several injuries. Adding Manning could make the Chiefs a darkhorse Super Bowl choice.

Better Fit For Manning: Denver Or K.C.? from ESPN

The Kansas City Chiefs are definitely pursuing free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning, chairman Clark Hunt said on Friday.

"He's one of the greatest players in the history of the league," Hunt told NBC Sports Network Friday, via The Kansas City Star. "He's also an incredible person. We feel really good about the team we have in Kansas City going into the 2012 season, but we'll look for any opportunity to improve and, of course, that includes Peyton Manning."

CB Josh Norman ended the Chanticleers season considered a mid to late round draft choice. But his sensational performance at the East-West Shrine Game in January and then a solid effort in the NFL Scouting Combine in February has sent him shooting up draft boards as teams backtrack to take a second look at the South Carolina native.

The Bloomington Edge filled a sudden vacancy in their receiving corps Friday by trading for Will Franklin, a former fourth-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs.

"He's explosive," Edge coach Kenton Carr said of Franklin, noting a 4.3-second time in the 40-yard dash. "That caliber of player you can't pass up on. It shows you the type of talent we have in this league now."

Cassel's only due a relatively cheap $5.25 million in 2012, so theoretically, the Chiefs could bring in some solid competition in the form of a backup (say, Chad Henne at $4 million?). Of course, that $5.25 million hit might make moving Cassel to make way for Manning a very viable alternative.

What Kansas City should do: Pay up for Peyton. The Chiefs don't appear to be headed anywhere fast with Cassel at the helm, even if he rediscovers his 2008 or 2010 form. A healthy Manning instantly makes K.C. the team to beat in the AFC West.

Podolak was a standout quarterback and halfback at the University of Iowa and later had a nine-year career in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs.

He is their second all-time leading rusher and a member of the Chiefs' Hall of Fame.

1. Brandon Carr, Chiefs. The other Brandon in Kansas City, Flowers, is a talented player, but Carr has emerged into the better one. He slowly has developed into a sound cover man and posted a career-high four interception. His age (25) and size (6-0, 207) are very attractive. There are many teams in need of a No. 1 shutdown type, and the Chiefs, who added former Raider Stanford Routt as insurance, will get competition from DB-needy teams such as Dallas and Minnesota.

"I was just bringing my story to light," Horn said. "I went from the outhouse to the White House. They asked me about everything and I answered everything. Basically, I encouraged them to keep on moving. You don't have to be a pro football player to be successful. You can be a doctor, a lawyer, a neurologist. Athletes aren't the only successful people in the world."

Horn, who played professionally for the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons before officially retiring as a Saint in 2010, was the guest of Maloney offensive coordinator Giovanni Daniels. They have a mutual friend who put them in contact. Horn said he took an 18-hour train trip from Atlanta just to speak at the Gravel Street school.

Shane Bannon, one of three Kansas City Chiefs to participate, didn't have far to travel. The fullback out of Pomperaug-Southbury and Yale was the first player to arrive.

"I'm a Connecticut kid," Bannon said. "It's my pleasure to give back to the community in any way possible. We're raising money but, for me, seeing the kids smiling and having fun at (today's) youth clinic is the best part, for sure."
