Those are 2 pretty good players. Why not keep them here?

Dallas released Newman to free up space for Carr and cut Buehler to free up space for Orton. I read a story on NFL.com from Feb 28 that said Dallas was interested in Carr and Orton, so it's not a huge surprise.

Orton going there doesn't bug me...

I will miss Carr though...

Just don't understand it..only 25 years old, and the top free agent CB this year...

I really think it comes down to the large amount of money we gave to Flowers. Pioli can't bring himself to having that much money invested in one position group.

Maybe Carr will meet Jerry Jones and it will make him think "Wow, I though Pioli was a character" and then he comes running back with a hometown discount! haha

We can wish can't we?

They have not yet signed with Dallas they are just going to visit. So it's not over for either of them just yet

Would like to keep them both, but I think picking up a cb already has made Carr expendable. Wish Orton would stay and compete for starter. He's def only gonna be a backup there unless Romo gets hurt.

True, but as one of the guys on the show said, they already cut guys in anticipation of signing them. JJ wouldn't do that unless he was pretty sure it was in the bag.

Why would Orton go there? He doesn't have the opportunity to compete for the starting job like he would here or somewhere else. Also, I'll be disappointed if we lose Carr since we have plenty of cap space to resign him.

It bothers me more if we lose Orton. Carr has allready been replaced. We need a legitimate QB to compete. We don't have too many options. I hope the Chiefs know what there doing at the QB position and not relying on Cassel again!

Either way, Carr is going to make A LOT of money. Good for him. After coming in as a 5th round draft pick, the guy has done nothing but bust his hump to become one of the better corners in the NFL.

You really can't place any blame on any one person because you really don't know what is going on.

There was no blame in that statement and never claimed I knew what was going on with this other than KNOWING what was reported, thus expressing my opinion about it.

How are the Chiefs supposed to stop him? Do you want to pay him Drew Brees money?

I can't understand why he would go to Dallas (or anywhere else) and be a backup, when he could start on probably a dozen other teams. If he stayed here he would probably beat out Cassel for the starting job.

Why would he be paid Brees money? And to answer your question, NO I would not. Besides, you think JJ in Dallas will give him that type of money especially since they are in cap trouble? Have no idea why you would even pose that question....

The Chiefs could keep him here and should. you are right about him probably beating out Cassell for the starting job, so it makes no sense to let him go.

I agree that there is no way he will get anything near Brees money. I was exaggerating to make the point that we can't force any free agent to sign with us ... even if we offer them the best contract. I would love to keep Orton. I don't know what more the Chiefs can do though. He sees this as Cassel's team. Which is why Dallas makes no sense at all for him. I still don't get it ...

Seems like the Pioli/Cassell marriage will last another year. If we can sign a quality running back like Tolbert, and fill our holes on the line then we should be ok on that side of the ball. I would much rather be "good" on that side of the ball and sign a QB that will push him.

One shoe drops. Next will be Carr. Sorry guys, but all you who were hoping somehow we'd keep him, La Canfora said JJ is ready to open up the piggy bank to grab him. His agent and JJ are deep in negotiations and a deal is expected today, or tomorrow at the latest.

Here is a link with information on this deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys sign Brandon Carr for five years, $50.1 million | ProFootballTalk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/14/cowboys-sign-brandon-carr-for-five-years-50-1-million/)

Cowboys sign Brandon Carr for five years, $50.1 million
http://nbcprofootballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/brandon-carr-pic1.jpg?w=250
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys have signed cornerback Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50.1 million contract.

The contract is worth $100,000 more than Cortland Finnegan’s reported deal with St. Louis.

Just moments after longtime Cowboys reporter Charean Williams wrote on Twitter that Carr was “close” to signing with Dallas, Schefter broke the news that the contract has been finalized.

Carr, who turns 26 in May, is a big, physical press cornerback with playmaking ability. He has safety size at 6-foot, 207 and set a career high with four interceptions last season.

In Dallas, Carr will book end Mike Jenkins on the perimeter of the Cowboys’ secondary.

Yep, it is sad to see him leave but I do believe he has had a liking for the Cowboys so I am not to surprised he ended up in Dallas. I had hoped his being a dynamite duo with Brandon Flowers might entice him to stay but... ah, well, thanks for your time as a Chief Mr. Carr and best of luck to him in Dallas.

Go Chiefs! :sFl_canada2: :chiefs:

Good for him. He deserves it.

5 minutes ago - by Nick Eatman

CB Brandon Carr on signing a five-year contract with the Cowboys: “I'm ecstatic. It's been a long, long time and I've been waiting for this opportunity. To not only secure myself financially but also to elevate my game to be at the highest level, which is the Dallas Cowboys. Now it's time to turn my game up another notch.” (source (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/post/17794886))

Unrestricted and even if he had been restricted I doubt and would go so far as to say IMO know that Pioli wouldn't have matched that offer.
