http://nbcprofootballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/129068386_display_image-e1331948572295.jpg?w=242 Getty ImagesOn Thursday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that free-agent tackle Eric Winston (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3648/eric-winston) would visit the Rams on Friday (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/16/eric-winston-scheduled-to-arrive-at-rams-park-today/).
On Friday, Winston didn’t visit the Rams.
Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that Winston scrapped his visit to St. Louis (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/St-Louis-Rams-Eric-Winston-not-making-trip-031512) after spending Thursday and Friday with the Chiefs. There trip has not been rescheduled.
Marvez reports that a signing with the Chiefs isn’t imminent, and that the Dolphins and Ravens remain in contention for his services.
Winston was cut by the Texans earlier this week, in an unexpected move.
Winston is No. 13 on the PFT Hot 100 (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/13/the-free-agent-hot-100/). Since we haven’t mentioned the list very much this week.

I love it. I take back what I said earlier. If we grab him I give the Chiefs a FA draft grade A-. A if we would have retained Kyle Orton. GO CHIEFS!

I am feeling really good about this.

Just the fact that he wrote a team off means he is leaning towards the chiefs.

My question is have the visits to baltimore and whoever else been scheduled? Or is it all bargaining chips like us bringing in McNeil?

At any rate they say the longer the visit the better.

Is he still in town, or has he left?

That's what I was wondering. Someone on facebook was saying he left, but I haven't seen any articles or official tweets abuot it.

Says he was to stay in KC another night. Could sign Fri. night or Sat. Se he is still here.

He also goes on to say that if we land Winston then the Chiefs most likely done with expensive starters and most likely would just target depth players the rest of free agency.

The Chiefs need to sign Eric Winston. He will allow them to have a more potent running attack.

Crap........this report scares me! It looks as if Winston is visiting Detroit Monday!

I hope we're not trying to get him on the cheap!!!! He would be an outstanding signing for us!

Well, he planned visits with the Rams, Ravens too and they never happened. This is contingent on us not signing him. Which results in an epic fail for Pioli. C'mon Pioli- DO IT!!! DO IT!!!

I wouldn't worry, too much. He won't go to Detroit if we sign him, and even if he does go, that doesn't mean the Lions will give him a better deal than us.

Before FA started the Lions were $11.55 million over the cap limit. (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2012/03/calvin-johnsons-megadeal-gives-lions-salary-cap-space-fans-relief/1#.T2TpVcUgc-o). They were able to restructure a couple of contracts to get under before the deadline and with the New Calvin Johnson deal, they now have $13,033,733 in cap space. (http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2012/03/detroit_lions_have_13_million.html) That might be enough to sign Winston, but then they will be maxed out. And by back-loading all these deals, the Lions will be screwed in the next couple of years.

I don't think they can get a deal done.
