With Cassel, Quinn, and Stanzi. What does this mean. Is Stanzi really that bad? We just picked up Quinn and we couldn't possibly have 4 QB's on our roster.
Any thoughts?

What reports? I wanna read what you read.

I like the idea. Pioli promised competition at the QB position, and while Quinn definitely has potential, I think most of us were looking for something more.

We obviously can't keep 4 QBs. Bring in another one and you will see competition for those 3 roster spots like you wouldn't believe. It would elevate everyone's play.

Quinn only came on a one year contract IIRC. He knows Dabolls offense and could start a game if/when Cassel misses some time. Stanzi is fine, its only his second year. His first full offseason and his second offensive coordinator, once he is given some playing time could end up being Matt's replacement. Pioli isn't selling the farm to get RGIII, just a later round pick that will end up on the practice squad.

A lot of Chiefs’ fans are all riled up by the news that the Kansas City Chiefs (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/kan/kansas-city-chiefs) are considering at least two of the top quarterbacks available in the draft.
Reaction? Predictable.

The Chiefs looked into some of the quarterbacks in last year’ draft pool, and I expect them to look at several this year. So, it’s no shock the team is taking closer looks at Texas A&M’s (https://twitter.com/#!/dpbrugler/status/185407318299643904) Ryan Tannehill (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/28393/ryan-tannehill) and Michigan State’s (http://twitter.com/#!/alexmarvez/status/185389819378139136) Kirk Cousins (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/28010/kirk-cousins).

Kansas City starter Matt Cassel (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8644/matt-cassel) turns 30 in May. It would behoove the Chiefs to look for a young prospect to develop. The Chiefs probably have a better chance to draft Cousins rather than Tannehill. Kansas City has the No. 11 pick in the draft, and Tannehill is expected to taken before then.

Cousins is expected to be a second-round pick. The Chiefs have the No. 44 pick in the second round and could have a real shot at Cousins

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the Chiefs show interest in other quarterbacks in the coming weeks, such as Oklahoma State’s Brandon Weeden (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/28779/brandon-weeden), Arizona’s Nick Foles (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/27468/nick-foles), and Arizona State’s Brock Osweiler (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/29000/brock-osweiler).

The Chiefs don’t have a ton of pressing needs, so this might be the time to try to snag the quarterback of the future, and I’m sure that is why the Chiefs are taking pre-draft looks at players at the position.

It wouldn't surprise me if we drafted a QB. They have been talking about taking the best player available and that may be a QB at some spots.

There are definitely other positions we need to fill, but I wouldn't mind seeing a QB picked at some point.

Like TopekaRoy said I just think this means competition at the QB position. I'm sure they're going to look at several different players and positions. It's just part of the process.

I always like the idea of competition in camp. But with 2011 showing us we have some real issues with depth I would hate to carry 4 QBs and lose that roster spot.

I think they need that competition at quarterback. If we got a quarterback that will help pull the team together to win mentally then we will have no problems.

i think we can win with cassel if we can just protect him. but id rather give stanzi a chsnce to be #2.

There are reports coming out of KC that the Chiefs are not impressed with Stanzi. I think we will draft a QB again this year.

As far as I am concerned this is a make or break year for Cassel. And I mean he has to really MAKE it. 2010 in the playoffs he completely folded... The only reason I give him any sympathy is the Offensive coaching carousel that has been in his KC career.

But with Daboll, Hillis, Boss, Winston. I think we are going to be a run first short yardage control the clock offense. Surely he can hit a TE 6 yards out........... Right?

Very well could be true, and depending on who was there in the 2nd round I would get him there as well. Aside from andrew luck and maybe RGIII I don't see any QB's in this draft that are worth our 1st pick.

Kirk Cousins is my pick. I love the guy. He has been described as a stronger armed Pennington. That is what this team needs with this offense.

The Chiefs have a tough decision to make with the first round pick. Look for them to go with a linebacker first, but which one?

Here's what we know about Brock Osweiler: He's tall (http://www.nfl.com/goto?id=09000d5d827fff7e) (6-foot-7). He's green (15 career starts at Arizona State). And nobody can come close to a collective agreement where he'll be drafted this month.

A standout pro day (http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/03/30/did-strong-workout-vault-qb-osweiler-into-first-round/) Friday only added to Osweiler's intrigue. NFL.com's Gil Brandt sees a future starter whose workout moved him into first-round consideration. Others, NFL Network's Michael Lombardi and Charley Casserly among them, consider Osweiler a mid- to late-round talent.

The league office seems to believe Osweiler could go early in the draft, inviting him to sit in the hallowed green room at Radio City Music Hall. It's unlikely Osweiler would even have a decision to wrestle with if not for his pro day. Representatives from 23 teams were on hand to watch Osweiler work out, including many of the same scouts and coaches who observed Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill's session the previous day. Osweiler called his pro day "risky," a program consisting of more difficult throws than typical. He acknowledged the feeling he needed to do something extra to turn skeptics into believers.

"We kind of looked at it as a poker thing," he said. "We're going all in on this. We're going to strike big, or something else is going to happen. That's just who I am. A lot of people don't know much about me with only 15 career starts, so I wanted to go out there and show everybody what I can do, that I'm not going to play it safe."

Does Osweiler have a suit picked out if he does decide to fly east later this month?

"You know, élevée, (a Los Angeles-based custom clothing company) made a few suits for me throughout the process," he said. "So if we end up in New York, I'll have something nice to wear."

All dressed up with no idea where he'll go.

Weeden is the only quarterback I want in this draft. He seems less like a project and more like a guy that could step in and play right away. He's the same age as Cassell, yet he has so much more potential. He can make every throw, has maturity and is a leader.

Hmm, I'm not sure we've watched the same Weeden games. I watched several OSU games and Weeden is decent but to say he's not a project isn't right. He's just as much of a project as Cousins is. Weeden threw the ball up half the time to his receivers because they're so much bigger and stronger than the DB's. Blackmon went up and grabbed most of his throws. When you needed laser like accuracy Weeden was decent.

I'm not saying I wouldn't take him, I'm just saying I see another Cassel experiment if we do. After all, 28 yrs old, never played a snap in the NFL. Cassel at least had 3 years of being a backup which to me equates out to Weeden playing at OSU.

I recently watched some film from Cousins and Weeden.

Weeden is better, but has some development to do, specially take snaps under center, but is truly accurate and takes all the hits that are needed.

Cousins is very similar to Cassel, so I don't think that should be the way to improve. Happy feet under pressure, not much accuracy in longer passes, don't read very well second and third options.

This means nothing!!!! Every year the Chiefs look at guys that they pass on. They are just doing their due diligence for possible situations so that they can create their draft board with what if situations.

IE what if they get an offer to trade back three spots, What if their top three guys go ealier than expected.

Actually I think this does mean something. To me this says hey everyone, if Tannehill is still available to us at 11 we might just draft him so if you want him you better trade us spots. I doubt we'd actually draft him so I'm thinking this is some fantastic smoke screen work on Pioli's part.

don't get excited, this is just draft fodder. teams always bring in players they have no interest in just to make another team worry that we may draft him. that may open draft day trade negotiations. i don't see us taking a QB early, maybe after round 3 if a steal presents itself.

Okay, Yes, I agree, but the title of the post says the Chiefs are looking to draft a QB. From the reports it means nothing about the Chiefs Looking to draft a Qb.

It just means they are doing their due diligence looking at all the possibilities that may fall in their slot.

Ya know, the Colts came out and said they may not necessarily draft Andrew Luck! Don't expect him to still be there at #11, or even #3, though. :lol:
