I thought rather than starting a new thread every time a team trades up or down, or makes a surprising pick, we could have all the draft discussion in one thread.

The Browns traded up to 3 to get Trent Richardson. What did the Vikings get in return?

Wow. That's a lot to give up to move up just a couple of spots. The Browns needed those picks.

The Vikings just took Kalil, so he's off the board.

I agree. The Browns need a lot of help giving up all those picks to fill 1 isn't going to do them all that much.

This 1st round is going quickly. Nothing is yet coming down to the wire for picks. It usually takes awhile for them to make the selection. The only thing keeping it slow right now is the fanfare. If it wasnt for the fanfare of all the pics and interviews before they announce the next selection, we would be at like 10 or 12 by now!

Mccluster? What has he done?! We dont even have any room for him in the backfield when Charles is healthy.

Berry I will give you that, Houston could be nice.

Tyson jackson, matt cassel, alex magee, Baldwin the trouble maker, Hudson.

Now compare that to impact and/or for carr pro bowlers Bowe, Charles, Hali, FLowers, Carr.

Yeah Hudson who's been a good player totally sucks. Jackson has been doing his job and is getting better. Remember that he's following the same path as Dorsey. he'll probably be even better in 12. Cassel is average, magee well I'll give you that one and Baldwin's been a receiver for 7 or 8 games...gimme a break!

Ummm Mccluster was our offense last year. He will get the ball in games.

Baldwin trouble maker? So every player who gets in a fight in training camp is a horrible pick ummmm you just called a ton of players that are pretty good horrible.

What has Hudson done to be a bad pick? He did good for a very young player in the playing time that he did get.

Id like to see an ILB or a Safety/CB hybrid in the 3rd round.

5th-7th rounds go for BPA since we need depth all over the place. Maybe get Burfict with one of our 7th round picks.

I'm not sure about Burfict, but since we have 2 7th round picks so we aren't risking much. I'll bet someone takes him in round 5 or 6 though. Every year, there are a couple of teams that makes "those" kinds of picks!

There are some people who think that with a year of tutoring, Jeff Allen could be a starting LT. I wonder if they are ready to not resign Albert after this year. Put Allen at LT and Stephenson at LG? I doubt that is there plan, since Stephenson's knock is that he is too light. He would get bull rushed by bigger DLs.

I just think Stephenson is going to be the backup swing tackle. Allen/Lilja will be the backup OG, and I think Lilja has experience at C, so he could be the backup C.

Stephenson was a surprise, which also tells me they probably arent too keen on Mims as an OT. Right now I see us keeping 8 OL on the team:

Albert/Allen/Hudson/Asamoah/Winston

Lilja (G/C)
Mims (G)

That is unless we get a reserve C later in the draft.

Well, Jeff Allen was announced as a Guard by former Chiefs Guard Will Shields, so it's likely Stephenson is going to be groomed at Tackle. Stephenson is listed 312 lbs, but the knock is that he needs to get stronger ( and I'll bet the Chiefs will see to it that he does ).

And the Chiefs already have a guy that repeatedly gets bull-rushed by bigger DL's -- Ryan Lilja. Both Allen and Stephenson are bigger and stronger than Lilja.

Allen is projected at guard, coulod beatr out lilja for this year. Stephenson needs only to bulk up and get stronger against bull rushers to be a solid left tackle. he has the frame for it...he has bigger hands, longer arms and sub 5.0 40 speed. great footwork and very athletic. my guess is he becomes backup tackle and insurance if we lose albert.

I see Peyton Hillis more of a complement that a replacement for Charles. McCluster probably would do a good job filling in Charles role. Im not saying they definitely will get a RB, or that I definitely would. But if there is a pretty good RB that isnt supposed to be there in the 7th round, I would consider it and not be surprised if they go that route.

As I have said in prior messages....

MCNUTT!! If we draft a WR, it has to be McNutt! that boy made Stanzi look better than he was, and flat out bailed out my boy Vandenberg a few times!
I'm sure there are plenty of youtube vids of him out there

Jaguars just took a Punter in the 3rd round...that doesn't normally happen does it? lol

No it doesnt, unless you are the TRaiders. Haha. There is a reason why Jax has sucked for a long time.

So, I just read that the last time anyone took a punter in the 3rd round was ....

:chiefs:

Yes, the Chiefs with Dustin Colquitt.

Haha. Can someone call an ambulance, my foot may need to be surgically removed from my mouth.

With our next pick, I'd like to see us take Cousins if he is still available.

McNutt and Cousins both looked pretty dang good in their highlight videos I watched. I like McNutt's YAC ability and I like Cousins passion for the game.

Opinions on Devon Wylie?

He has 4.39 speed & is one of the best kick returners in this draft & can play slot receiver. Very reminiscent of Dante Hall. Good pick at this point in the draft.

So does anyone think we will not grab a QB at all. We have Quinn, Cassel, and Stanzi kinda seem full on the position...

i would not be surprised to see us pass on a QB and go with casStanQuin then re-evaluate next year. time to shore up the D w/ some DBs and LB's

i agree not much to be had at this point at the qb position. time to get some lb's and db's hopefully pioli can work his late round magic and get us some solid players

I like what the Chiefs brass has done in this draft.

As for the other teams in the AFC West, I predict that their picks are all going to SUCK and will be out of the league in 2 years and will be delivering Pizza to your doorstep.

Probably won't happen that way, but I couldn't resist. :D

6-McNutt
7-Cam Johnson
7-Vontaze Burfict

I wouldnt object to that. At this point you are looking for whoever you have as the BPA. Burfict would be a good option to. He has the tape to show he can produce, but you have to question his motivation (which I think Crennel could develop).

I like it a lot too. If Charles doesnt live up to his preinjury abilities, then we have the heir apparent.

Cyrus Gray, RB in the 6th round.

I like it. He has 4.47 speed and can catch the ball out the backfield. Here's some BIO:

Gray started 29 games, played in 49, collected 3,298 yards and 30 touchdowns rushing; 776 yards (103 catches) and six scores receiving; and 2,349 yards and two more touchdowns on kickoff returns. That totaled 6,423 all purpose yards at that rate of 131.08 per game.

He was projected as a 3rd or 4th rounder. There's been a lot of debate regarding the selection of Poe at #11, but since then, they have just ripped it a new one with getting not only need players, but good football players & things are looking good, not only now, but long-term.

Beautiful job by the Chiefs brass. I was apprehensive coming into the draft & after the selection of Poe at #11, but they've completely annihilated that apprehension in a resounding way since round 1.

Since Pioli has been here, there have been at least 2 picks per draft that have made me yell at the t.v. This year, while there's only been a couple that I'm ecstatic about, there haven't been any that have made me angry... so, they're definitely improving.

I think this draft/offseason would be a complete success if we get some more depth at ILB. Even if Poe is a complete bust (which I doubt), I think we did a great job of filling holes (including depth) and getting some talented players all over the team. If everyone stays healthy, we have a very young, talented team that will be in place for awhile.

texaschief
04-28-2012, 04:39 PM
What's also impressive is that they've been able to keep their cap flexibility. While I'm sure a couple spots will become apparent, it's exciting to see every hole sufficiently filled at this point.

It's a nice thing when you look at the team and see your only question marks being at FS, ILB, and QB... each of which are positions currently filled by players who can at the very least perform at league average... NICE!

There are some decent names at LB still out there:

Cam Johnson (OLB)
Audie Cole (ILB)
Emmanuel Acho (OLB)
Vontaze Burfict (ILB)

I think most of them were rated as 3-5th rounders at some point. They could at the least be quality special teamers/backups (which is what you should be looking for at this point) with the potential to develop into a steal.

LOL, just looked at the Donkeys draft list & the players they took.

Anybody who disses the Chiefs draft, just simply needs to look at Denver's draft if you are in need of a good laugh.

It's not even close -- the Chiefs clearly had the best draft of any team in the division ( although SD didn't do too badly).

A few players that I feel we should seriously look at in the 7th rd, that are still available:

Billy Winn, DE/DT, Boise State
Audie Cole, ILB, North Carolina State
Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M

Dang, Winn just got selected!
