ESPN Preview
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs - Preview - November 18, 2012 - ESPN (http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/nflpreview?gameId=321118012)

After gaining a much-needed boost of confidence, the Cincinnati Bengals have a prime chance to lift their playoff hopes.

The Bengals would appear to have a favorable schedule over the next few weeks, beginning with Sunday's visit to the beleaguered Kansas City Chiefs.

Just when it seemed that it might continue its historic trend of inconsistency, Cincinnati pulled off a decisive 31-13 win over defending champion New York last Sunday. Andy Dalton threw a career-high four touchdowns while helping his team end a four-game losing streak, and the Bengals' defense forced four turnovers and sacked Eli Manning four times.

"That was huge for us," defensive tackle Domata Peko said. "We really needed that win. It was important because they're world champions and when you can compete against a team like that, it shows us we can compete against anybody."

Cincinnati has made back-to-back playoff appearances only once in franchise history (1981-82) and will get its chance to make a push toward achieving that goal over the ensuing weeks. The Bengals (4-5) will play their next five games against teams that are currently below .500.

Wide receiver A.J. Green, though, said Cincinnati is not taking this stretch lightly, and he pointed to a 34-24 loss at last-place Cleveland on Oct. 14 as evidence why the Bengals shouldn't.

"We can't look past anyone," Green told the team's official website. "This is the last part of the season and I feel like the game we had last Sunday gave us momentum. The best momentum to have is in the second half of the season."

Cincinnati would appear to have its chance for some momentum against the Chiefs (1-8), who have dropped six in a row. Kansas City has been outscored 157-78 during the losing streak, its longest in a single season since a seven-game slide Oct. 5-Nov. 23, 2008.

The Chiefs have produced 16 points or fewer in each of their last five games but nearly won in Pittsburgh on Monday night. Ryan Succop made a 46-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to tie it at 13-all, but Matt Cassel was intercepted on the second play in overtime, setting up the Steelers' game-winning kick.

"We're disappointed about the final result, but I really think our team played a much more competitive game overall than we have been playing," coach Romeo Crennel said. "We had some opportunities to win the game, but there are things we have to polish up and get correct so we can win the game."

With Brady Quinn not yet cleared to return from a concussion, the Chiefs will start Cassel again Sunday.

"Brady does feel better. I'm glad he's feeling better. But he hasn't been cleared to play yet," Crennel said. "I can't take the chance on practicing the guy and not having him ready."

Cassel missed one game earlier this season with a concussion of his own and had to fill in for Quinn when he exited a 26-16 loss to Oakland on Oct. 28.

Cassel has posted his lowest quarterback rating (66.6) in five seasons as a starter, and he has 12 interceptions to only six touchdowns in his eight games.

He was intercepted twice in his most recent matchup with Cincinnati on Dec. 27, 2009, and one of those sealed a 17-10 win for the Bengals. Kansas City's Jamaal Charles had 102 yards on 24 carries in that game and enters this one after reaching the 100-yard mark for the third time this season Monday.

Charles, who has 734 yards, gained 233 in the Chiefs' lone win Sept. 23 at New Orleans.

"He's a guy that has the ability to make people miss," Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said.

The Bengals, who have won consecutive games in the series, are making their first trip to Kansas City since a 27-20 defeat Oct. 14, 2007.

Cincinnati, which has lost in six of its last eight visits, is hoping to have safety Reggie Nelson (hamstring) and rookie wide receiver Marvin Jones (knee) available for this matchup.

"Reggie and Marvin are getting pretty close," Lewis said. "They've worked extremely hard."

The Chiefs' receiving corps might be thin for this game. Jon Baldwin is getting tested for a concussion, and Dwayne Bowe -- tops on the team with 49 receptions, 626 yards and three TDs -- is also expected to be limited in practice this week due to an ailing thigh.

I know they aren't going to the playoffs, I know this and that sucks..blah, blah, blah. I just want to enjoy a game. I look forward to the game and am not going to dwell on the negative. Jamal did well against them previously so I would like to see him have a great day. I will sit proudly in my Trent green jersey at the pub and enjoy the game. I hope there are not a lot of people in black since I am sure the head office knows of the fans feelings about the situation. I'm sure people in China know, lol! Enjoy the game, kiss your wife and hug your kids! If the chiefs lose how many of us are really gonna be affected, I'm sure Dwayne bowe isn't gonna care if you have a bad week at work, lol! Go Chiefs!!!

So what is going on with the black out or w/e? I seen some song about how people aren't supposed to show up and if they do to wear black shirts? Any news on this that I'm missing in here?

The fans I follow on twitter that are at Arrowhead say the black is spotty at best. Keep in mind the Bengals jersey has a black base when watching tv today.

3rd and 5 so lets have someone run a 4 yard rout FREAKING BRILLIANT

matthewschiefs
11-18-2012, 01:21 PM
Well we have now led 2 games in a row I guess that's progress LOL

iratefan
11-18-2012, 01:21 PM
so when mccluster runs that route, is that mccluster just not knowing where the sticks are? or is that him just running a route thats poorly designed for that yardage distance?

matthewschiefs
11-18-2012, 01:21 PM
so when mccluster runs that route, is that mccluster just not knowing where the sticks are? or is that him just running a route thats poorly designed for that yardage distance?

I would say the later based on how many times we have seen the WRs do those routs this year.

iratefan
11-18-2012, 01:24 PM
I would say the later based on how many times we have seen the WRs do those routs this year.

arent we supposed to be having mccluster run slot routes to the middle of the field so that he can actually run afterwards? (that hasnt really been working much either)

matthewschiefs
11-18-2012, 01:26 PM
arent we supposed to be having mccluster run slot routes to the middle of the field so that he can actually run afterwards? (that hasnt really been working much either)

We are supposed to be doing a lot of things that haven't been working much that's the story of our season this year HORRIBLE COACHING

iratefan
11-18-2012, 01:31 PM
ok this is just sad. iget that were tryin to bring the heat -but theres not much freaking point when theres a wide open field to scramble.

Lewis_Chiefs
11-18-2012, 01:33 PM
The depressing this is that our coaches would never have the bollocks to go for it on 4th down and 6 or fake punt.

iratefan
11-18-2012, 01:34 PM
congrats chiefs - blowing two opportunities to get the bengals off the field and changing the momentum of the game early.

matthewschiefs
11-18-2012, 01:34 PM
We had all the chances in the world to get them off the field and couldn't get it done very depressing but that's this season for you

iratefan
11-18-2012, 01:37 PM
what pisses me off the most is there isnt even a golden prize at the end of this wasted season. all those prizes got scooped up last year. so there will be no rest for a very weary team (and fan base) going into next year

matthewschiefs
11-18-2012, 01:38 PM
That's just great as well

iratefan
11-18-2012, 01:39 PM
how many blocked/deflected passes has that been for matt cassel so far this year? do we have to get a kindergartener to assist daboll on the concept of quick routes and three step drops?

matthewschiefs
11-18-2012, 01:39 PM
WOW we actualy get saved by a call this is new

iratefan
11-18-2012, 01:39 PM

matthewschiefs
11-18-2012, 01:41 PM

hmm. what other games are goin on right now? no patience for this ****fest

I dont know, but if i were Crennel, id find it wise to keep switching up QB's to create a controversy... to detract attention away from his rather obvious coaching controversy.

He wasnt cleared until late in the week, and so he didnt practice with the first team. Which is why Cassel started this week.

**** hillis doesn't wanna play football anymore anyways... He picks plays to run the ball. The only time he runs quick is when he runs out of the locker room first every game.. I can't stand the way Matt Cassel plays, but he is def not the only player on this team not playing. A lot of players not playing with any heart. DJ and Houston are def my favorite players of this year. That play hard every game.

Funny u mention that a former employee of the organization that was fired by pioli said that his first disagreement was with Carr vs flowers. He said Carr had better footwork pioli didn't agree signed flowers to the extension yadda yadda yadda. Like I said the chiefs ambassadors host a benefit golf tourney here at the lake every June at the hotel i work at. I wouldn't say many ambassadors are fond of pioli.

Anyone else notice how good the Bengals' newest ILB looked today?

Starting at ILB since week 2 and hasn't looked back ever since.

I could've swore someone on this site mentioned Burfict as a good late round pick... I just can't remember who that person was for the life of me...

Imagine turning a 7th round pick into a starting ILB next to DJ... if only.

I was totally gonna remind you of go vontaze burfict yesterday and how it might get you a little bit.

So Texas let me ask you, and I'm know its a moot point but if you knew you couldn't keep both and had to pick which one would it have been flowers or Carr.

Flowers. It's easy to second guess with the luxury of hindsight, but Flowers in a walk. I've seen a few Cowboys games this year and Carr isn't tearing it up over there either. He's definitely an upgrade over what they had previously, but Flowers is a top 10 or maybe even top 5 CB.

I would have loved to see them keep both. The Routt gamble was obviously a bust and we have the cap space for two top flight CBs. Not sure what the thinking was, especially if they didn't plan to sign Bowe long-term.

Hasn't he signed Hali, flowers and DJ (not100% sure about DJ) to long term contracts under his tenure. Not defending Pioli, just clarifying the facts. I suspect that he is still around because he is trying to sign B. Albert to a deal.

It makes you wonder if there might be a plan in the works to get the city so disgusted with the team that they don't show up and therefor, create a situation for Hunt to go to the NFL and request a move to L.A.

Just a random thought. It would make sense considering the Chiefs already play in a western division and would be able to play all but one of their division games in the same time zone instead of only half of them.

nigeriannightmare

I have been saying this. The obvious failures of this administration and the length if time it has taken to make the few changes they have made speaks volumes to this. We are the joke of the NFL at the moment. Even Jacksonville doesn't cave as easy as we do and we have superior talent especially on the defensive side of the ball. They dropped 37 on one of the NGOs top defenses.

We have a coach who literally looks constipated out there and doesn't show any fire. No urgency on a team that's 1 and 9, we should have run the fake punt gone for it on fourth down a c times it's really looks as if they want to lose.
