View Full Version : You're the GM. Who do you cut?

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Chiefs have to trim their roster to 75. That means they have to get rid of 15 players who aren't even good enough to get another look in the 4th and final preseason game. Put on your GM cap. Who do you think already deserves to get the ax?

Just a hunch, but I'd say that WR's and DB's would make up at least half of that 15.

Based on the sheer number of undrafted free agents that play those positions, I would say that is a good hunch, but which ones?

It's hard to guess which ones, but I'm glad they rid themselves of Baldwin. But, the biggest cut that they made so far is when they cut Scott Pioli, no doubt.

maybe a quicker way to answer the question is, who do they keep? How many wide receivers would a team keep...5 or 6? Who are the obvious ones that are not getting cut....Bowe, Avery. We get to keep 3 or 4 more....go.

That's he approach I would take for the final roster. They have to get rid of 15 players before next Thursday's game and then another 22 (I think) after. It's gotta be tough to say, "we don't even want to give these guys one more chance to show us what they can do."

But I'm working on it. I'll have a list this afternoon.

I say they do keep WR Hemingway. Wylie will probably stay as well. Hammond and Shoemaker will not.

Yeah I dont think anyone in the trenches would get cut much just do to the fact it seems it needs the most help depth wise. I like the depth in secondary besides agnew.

I'd be surprised if Stanzi is on the roster for the Packers game.

I'm just a dumb old out-of-state CHIEFS FAN and not qualified to be a GM or shine a GM's shoes (except for maybe Pioli) so any thoughts I have would only be the obvious ones, but I feel pretty good about Dorsey and Reid and the working relationship they have, so I don't think they will make many (if ANY) mistakes in who they decide needs to go down the road.

OK, here's my list in no particular order. I looked at the depth chart, roster and salaries. The first 10 where pretty easy, but I had a hard time coming up with 5 more. Stanzi is not on my list, but I'm pretty sure he will get cut in the final round of cuts.

1. Frankie Hammond (WR)
2. Rob Lohr (RDE)
3. Jordan Roberts (RB)
4. Rico Richardson (WR)
5. Kennard Cox (SS)
6. Otha Foster (SS)
7. Demetrius Harris (TE)
8. Colin Kelly (ROT)
9.Tommie Draheim (C)
10. Greg Castillo (CB)
11. Jamaar Newsome (WR)
12. Dustin Waldron (LT)
13. Rickie Henry (RG)
14. Tyler Shoemaker (WR)
15. Kevin Brock (TE)

Agreed. Chase Daniel just all but wrote Stanzi's epitaph last night by keeping his poise even though he was getting pounded into muck repeatedly & finding a way to make plays.

It's tough to guess who Dorsey & Reid will part ways with...Will say this, wouldn't be surprised at all if we start bringing a bunch of recievers to try out after other teams make their cuts. Especially after the 49'ers game, with all the missed catches.

Wow! I suck!

I only got 4 of the 14 right.

Foster, Lohr, Roberts and Shoemaker.
I could still get one more depending on who the 15th cut is.

I missed Agnew and Hawkins because they weren't listed on the roster (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/pages/kansas-city-chiefs-2013-roster) depthchart (http://www.kcchiefs.com/team/depth-chart.html) or salary listing (http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/). I didn't know they were still on the team!

I should have got Chavis, Durand, McIlwain and Thorpe because they were on the roster but not the depth chart or salary list.

Copper was a 10 yr veteran and had a 3 yr contract so I kept him and cut Newsome and Richardson. I guess the Chiefs figured he was near the end of his career and they could save some money by letting him go. That makes sense.

I had Eckerson on my original list. I can't remember why I took him off.

I didn't want to cut Braden Wilson because I'm a kansas State fan and we only have two other Fullbacks on the team. But who uses fullbacks in the NFL anymore? LOL. I hope another team picks him up.

Stanzi is a surprise, even though I didn't think he was gonna make the final cut. I thought they would give him a look in preseason game 4 just to see if he might be better than Bray, but let's face it. His ticket was punched as soon as they brought Chase Daniels in. Might as well cut him now so other teams can have more time to decide if they want to give him a look.

Well there still are like 22 or 23 people who are going to be cut between now and the 1st week, so you may be right about the guys you listed, just not with the right cut.

Yeah, I'm sure most, if not all of the guys on my list won't make the final cut, but it's easy to pick 15 out of 37 right! Now I have to come up 11 or 12 more names for the final roster depending on who the 15th cut is). I was hoping more people would post a list, but this was fun. Let's do it again after Thursday's game.

In another Thread MatthewsChiefs said that WR Jamaar Newsome was the final first round cut. His source is the official KC Chiefs twitter account, so I'm sure that's accurate. He was on my list of 15 so that's no surprise.

I thought they might cut Moeoki and give him an injury settlement, but they have to cut another 22 after Thursday night's game so he is not out of the woods yet.
