They have earned this spot after their impressive performance against the Giants. Von Miller has not been missed as much as we thought.

Denver

2/3(+1)
Denver's plus-40 point differential is tops in the league after convincing wins against the Ravens and Giants. The way the Broncos have played, hosting the Raiders Monday night doesn't seem scary.

Broncos

1/2(+1)
Simply put ... Peyton Manning is going to have his best season since 2004, when he threw for 49 touchdowns. Maybe better.

Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
11/18(+7)
Andy Reid takes an unbeaten team back to face his former team Thursday night in Philadelphia. He does so with a defense that has really impressed.

Kansas_City
ESPN.com
13/20(+7)
Why are the Chiefs 2-0? Start with Kansas City's defense, which leads the league with 35.4 expected points added in the Chiefs' first two games.

Chiefs
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
10/17(+7)
In just two weeks, the Chiefs have already matched last year's win total and Alex Smith's four passing touchdowns are already half of what the Chiefs threw for all of last season.

They showed a lot by winning that game at Philadelphia on a short week. Philip Rivers was special.

San_Diego
ESPN.com
16/26(+10)
Philip Rivers showed up in a big way Sunday. Rivers was 7-of-9 against extra rushers in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning TD to Eddie Royal.

Chargers
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
16/23(+7)
Mike McCoy, Ken Wisenhunt and Philip Rivers appear to have made for a good match, but Eddie Royal is going to come back down to Earth sometime soon.

We move them up based on their victory against the Jaguars, but this is about as high as they will go. Then again, they could be 2-0.

Oakland
ESPN.com
29/31(+2)
It's early, but Terrelle Pryor's 46.6 Total QBR is 21st in the league and ranks higher than Super Bowl winners Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco and Ben Roethlisberger.

Raiders
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. I noticed the "Geno Smith sucked tonight" thread was gone earlier, but I didn't think anything about it.

Hard to believe it, but Peyton Manning is getting better. He has 12 touchdown passes in three games. Good luck stopping this offense.

Denver
ESPN.com
Full Listings (http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/rankings)

Four Broncos have at least 190 receiving yards through three games. The Packers are the only other team with even three of those receivers. How do you stop that?

Broncos
Brian Billick
@FoxSpots.com

Peyton Manning will tell you that the Broncos offense still has plenty of things to work on, but I can tell you that most teams don't even look this sharp in 7-on-7 drills during practice.

http://i.usatoday.net/_common/_images/_sports/logos/nfl/chiefs_50t.png
Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
5/11(+6)
You have to give the defense all the accolades so far. They are getting after it. I still worry about the passing game's ability to go deep.

Kansas_City
ESPN.com
8/13(+5)
The Chiefs have disrupted a league-high 33 drop-backs, or 24 percent of drop-backs they've faced this year (sack, pass defended or interception). No team has finished above 22 percent since 2008.

Chiefs
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
7/19(+3)
The Chiefs have now surpassed their entire 2012 win total and are the first team in NFL history to start a season 3-0 following a season in which they lost 14 or more games.

http://i.usatoday.net/_common/_images/_sports/logos/nfl/chargers_50t.png
Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
19/28(-2)
They are 1-2, but they've been in every game. Progress is being made. They just don't have enough talent yet.

San_Diego
ESPN.com
19/16(-3)
Is Philip Rivers good or not? Only Peyton Manning has more passing touchdowns, one year after Rivers' 42 Total QBR ranked 30th among qualified quarterbacks. Hosting Dallas is a good test.

Chargers
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
19/16(-3)
Philip Rivers looks like the league's most improved player after three weeks. His 83.3 completion percentage on Sunday was good for the second-most accurate day of his career.

http://i.usatoday.net/_common/_images/_sports/logos/nfl/raiders_50t.png
Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
26/28(+2)
They just don't have the players to compete with a team like Denver. It won't help that Terrelle Pryor suffered a concussion, either.

Oakland
ESPN.com
30/29(-1)
Terrelle Pryor has posted a Total QBR above 55 in two of his three games this season, something Colin Kaepernick, Matt Schaub, Eli Manning and Andy Dalton can't say.

Raiders
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
31/31(-)
Terrelle Pryor made some big league throws last night on Monday Night Football. He showed me some signs that he can develop into a long-term starter in the NFL. There are still five winless teams ranked higher than the Raiders, but that may change next week -- if he can go after his concussion against the Broncos.

And our next opponent ...

http://i.usatoday.net/_common/_images/_sports/logos/nfl/giants_50t.png
Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
29/22(-7)
What has happened to this team? They look lost. Can they save their season at Kansas City?

New_York
ESPN.com
29/20(-9)
The Panthers sacked Eli Manning seven times Sunday, third most in Eli's career. New York's 13 turnovers lead the league, a total it didn't hit until Week 10 last year.

Giants
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
29/24(-5)
The Giants are 0-3 for the first time since 1996 and the 38-point loss to the Panthers is the team's worst loss in the Tom Coughlin era.

I think 5-7 is a bit high for us right now. I expect that is where we SHOULD be if our O was running on all cylinders.

Justin5772002
09-24-2013, 04:27 PM
I think our current ranks are a product of all the other "great teams" ie. 49ers, giants, etc stinking up the joint.

jason1981
09-24-2013, 04:30 PM
Yeah its more of the others teams stinking it up but until they start winning we are about where we should be ranked as the rankings is not based on potential.

brdempsey69
09-24-2013, 04:31 PM
Not sure where Indy is ranked amongst the power rankings, but if their O-Line and Defense continues playing like they did in SF, then look out because they are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

KristofLaw
09-24-2013, 06:09 PM
Looks about right with our play so far, can't rely on last years laurels all the time. The 49ers can stay at the bottom for awhile, man I forgot how annoying it gets with them at the top, superbowl or bust. :D

Seahawks, Donkeys, Chiefs... the West is the best.

Lord-Chiefy

Can they be stopped? The Dallas trip this week won't be easy, especially with Dallas coming off a loss, but the way Denver is playing it's hard to imagine a loss there.

Denver

Peyton Manning has missed (over or underthrown) on 14 throws this season. Since the start of 2008, QBs have missed at least 14 throws in a single game 36 times.

Peyton Manning is on track to throw 64 touchdowns this season and while I don't think he will maintain that pace, I do honestly believe he will finish the year with 55 or more.

5/6(+1)
At 4-0, they head to October on a high note that has been keyed by the defense. Is Andy Reid the Coach of the Quarter?

Kansas_City
ESPN.com
5/8(+3)
This offense can be effective running to set up play-action, as it was Sunday. After play-action fakes, Alex Smith finished 6-of-10 for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Chiefs
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
5/7(+2)
In just four games this season, the Chiefs have doubled their win total from a year ago and are giving up just 10 points per game. They are legit.

Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
17/19(+2)
Philip Rivers showed against the Cowboys why he is still a top-level quarterback. It's amazing what he does with no weapons

San_Diego
ESPN.com
17/19(+2)
Philip Rivers connected on nine of 11 throws deeper than 10 yards downfield for three touchdowns Sunday. Four Chargers had multiple catches on those throws, something the team never did last year.

Chargers
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
16/19(+3)
For the second time this season, the Chargers had 500+ yards of total offense and Philip Rivers threw for more than 400. Rivers now owns the record for the best completion percentage in a 400-yard passing game.

http://i.usatoday.net/_common/_images/_sports/logos/nfl/raiders_50t.png
Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
28/26(-2)
They found out how much worse they are without Terrelle Pryor. Imagine saying that before the season?

Oakland
ESPN.com
30/28(+2)
Matt Flynn took seven sacks Sunday, as many as Terrelle Pryor had all season. Flynn was sacked on 18 percent of drop-backs, second-highest of anyone in a game this season.

Raiders
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
31/31(-)
Matt Flynn is who we thought he was.

They were pushed to the limits, and the defense was exposed against the Cowboys, but that won't be an issue this week against the Jaguars. How ugly will it get?

Denver

The Broncos scored 51 points. Peyton Manning completed 78.6 percent of 42 attempts for 414 yards and four touchdowns Sunday. Broncos receivers amassed 205 yards after catches. None of those are season highs.

The Broncos have scored 50+ points in back-to-back weeks. With the Jaguars on the schedule this weekend, can we go ahead and say it's three consecutive weeks?

Alex Smith is doing a lot of things right and that defense gets after the quarterback. The schedule is soft coming up too.

Kansas_City
ESPN.com

This defense is for real. Kansas City's 21 sacks and minus-3 TD-Int differential are both tops in the league. Back-to-back tests are coming, hosting Oakland and Houston.

That was a bad loss at Oakland as a favorite. Their fast start sure has faded quickly.

San_Diego
ESPN.com
20/17(-3)
Philip Rivers had three career 400-yard passing games before reaching 400 in three of his past four games. The problem Sunday was his three interceptions (third-career 3-INT game).

Chargers
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
20/16(-4)
In his first nine seasons in the NFL, Philip Rivers threw for 400 yards just three times. He now has three 400-yard games this season.

Pete Prisco
@CBSSports.com
24/28(+4)
Terrelle Pryor has really given this team some life. I like the way he played against the Chargers. He was so good they cut Matt Flynn.

Oakland
ESPN.com
24/28(+4)
Terrelle Pryor was pretty good while everyone was asleep. His 18-of-23 passing and two touchdowns paced an impressive win, and Pryor's 54 Total QBR ranks 14th in the league this year.

Raiders
Brian Billick
@FoxSports.com
26/31(+5)
Terrelle Pryor actually showed some good arm action on Sunday night. But the fact that the Raiders went after Josh Freeman should tell you exactly what they think about Pryor being the long-term starter.

San_Diego

Oakland
ESPN.com
26/24(-2)
Terrelle Pryor was sacked 10 times Sunday, the most since Greg McElroy was sacked 11 times in Week 16 last year. Only five quarterbacks since 2001 have reached double digits.

Raiders

Chiefs, Seahawks share 1st place in AP poll
Associated Press | October 29, 2013
There's a tie this week atop the Associated Press power poll: Kansas City caught up to Seattle.

The Chiefs and Seahawks each had 369 points in the latest AP Pro32 rankings, released Tuesday. Kansas City, the NFL's only undefeated team, was in second place last week. Both teams won again, but Seattle had to hang on in a 14-9 win Monday night at St. Louis.

The Denver Broncos were a close third after rallying to romp past Washington, with 360 points from the 12-person panel. The Chiefs had six first-place votes, the Seahawks four and the Broncos two.

The New Orleans Saints were fourth, and the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers were tied for the fifth spot.

And who has beaten the Chiefs? That's right, nobody.

Good article! If there is anything I have learned in more than 40 years of watching football it's that the ....."Team A beat team B who beat team C so Team A will certainly beat team C" logic is the purest and most complete form of BS.

Sunday is Buffalo and just like the other 8 Sundays we have to go out and beat them. Who we/they have played and who we/they have beaten/lost to don't mean squat. Sunday our Chiefs have to go out and beat the Bills who will almost certainly play one of their best games of the season....because like everybody else they want to be the team that knocks off the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL...THE CHIEFS!!!!

8-0....looking for 9-0!!!!

Yeah power rankings get me a little worked up but they're really just opinions. Everyone wants to crown the Donks champs. Last check they lost to the sb champs during the playoffs last year. It's a new season, and their isn't a new champ crowned til next year. And as of week 8 we are the line unbeaten!! They're so quick to give Peyton the sb but he's only won one I'm all his years. I'm not saying we will win the sb, but IMO the odds are stacked AGAINST the Donks!! Go Chiefs, continue to prove that this new regime equals new results and beat the Bills!! We've struggled against WBA we should have dominated and this should be no different. If we win by 1 or 100 were still winning. Ok enough of the drunken rant.... Go chiefs!!

Another week, another backup QB dispatched with extreme prejudice,
and another week that makes you wonder exactly what Alex Smith is capable of
against an upper-echelon opponent that's going to take 24 points or more to
beat. Putting the Chiefs higher than fourth basically certifies them as a
favorite to reach the Super Bowl, so consider this. In 2000, Trent Dilfer of the
Ravens was 20th in the league in yards per attempt among QBs who threw at least
200 passes. In 2002, Brad Johnson was 16th. The Chiefs currently rank 31st, and
that's only due to the pure havoc that Josh Freeman wrought on the Tampa Bay
passing game. Even if you think the Chiefs D is the equal of all-time greats
like the 2000 Ravens or 2002 Buccaneers, it's being asked to do even MORE heavy
lifting than those units due to KC's punchless passing attack

the way they probably look at is

- They lost at Indy (power rankings are more based if teams played on a netural field)

- They almost came back to win to beat indy

- Indy has GREAT wins (2 at home, den and sea, 1 on the road, SF), but some suspect loses (SD and Miami)

Indy, SF, Seattle all have a balanced team, not a one side of the ball is better than the other

but my power rankings, denver and KC would be around 4-6

Would have been fair if we had beaten the scumskins by a field goal or a TD or just 10 points, but to not get a little recognition for the beating we put on them is just wrong.

While 7 looks like a low ranking, I think we are in the right place. It doesnt matter that we blew out a crappy team. Until we can show that all 3 phases of the game can consistently play well in the same game for 4 quarters, I dont think we have earned a higher ranking. I dont know for certain that we are better than the Seahawks, Saints, Patriots, Panthers, Broncos, or 49ers. You can argue that we would be competitive with the Broncos, the injured Patriots, and maybe the Panthers, but I cannot say for certain that we are definitely better, therefore I cannot argue for a higher ranking.

Keep in mind most of those rankings have us as the 3rd best AFC team. Some have us below the Bengals, which I would say would be an interesting matchup.

If we go out and destroy the Raiders and all 3 phases are clicking, then we have a decent argument to be above the Bengals. If we destroy the Colts too, then yes, we should be moving up in the ranks, but it would be hard to say where we should sit.
