Weather forecast: http://a.espncdn.com/i/weather/mobile/85.pngPERFECT!, 70 degrees, 10% chance of rain

Line: Chiefs -8, Over/Under: 41

Notable Quotables:
Chiefs:
"I'm all about rivalries. I get it. It's exciting. I know our fans are going to be crazy. Our players are going to be fired up for it. This type of rivalry gets your juices flowing and gets them flowing early. The black and silver, if anybody is wearing it (on Sunday) be careful." -- Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on the Chiefs upcoming game against Oakland.

Raiders:
"It's a huge confidence builder for our team. I thought it was the most complete game we've played all year long. We understand the challenge we face going up against Kansas City," -- Raiders coach Dennis Allen on what the San Diego win does for his team.

ESPN Game Preview (http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/nflpreview?gameId=331013012):

Although the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs are off to their best start in 10 years, coach Andy Reid thinks his team has plenty of issues to work on as they head into their first AFC West contest.

The Chiefs look to keep rolling by ending a six-game home losing streak to the rival Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Kansas City (5-0) got the go-ahead score on a run by Jamaal Charles with 6:23 left and the Chiefs followed with a pair of interceptions to preserve a 26-17 win at Tennessee on Sunday.

Charles ran for 108 yards and a touchdown and added 37 yards on five catches. He's fifth in the NFL with 397 rushing yards and leads the team with 28 receptions, though hasn't been nearly as effective in recent meetings with the Raiders (2-3).

Charles rushed for 14 yards on 14 carries and finished with 38 total yards as Kansas City dropped both matchups with Oakland last season.

This year, however, been a much different story for the Chiefs. After a 2-14 finish in 2012, they're trying to win their first six games for the first time since a 9-0 start in 2003.

"Listen, we're 5-0 and we're not ashamed of that," Reid said. "But we also know that we got a ton of room to improve. It's important that we continue to do that."

Quarterback Alex Smith has stabilized the most critical position for the Chiefs in his first season in Kansas City, but he'll be looking for a better performance after going 20 of 39 for 245 yards with an interception Sunday.

Smith faced Oakland twice while with San Francisco, throwing for 361 yards with five touchdowns and one pick in a pair of victories.

He could be missing one of his top targets in Donnie Avery, who is recovering from a bruised shoulder. Tight end Anthony Fasano is also uncertain to play, fellow tight end Travis Kelce may miss the rest of the season after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and right tackle Eric Fisher is likely out because of a concussion.

The Chiefs would like to get receiver Dwayne Bowe more involved in the offense, as he has just 17 catches for 183 yards and two touchdowns, and a matchup with Oakland might provide the right opportunity. The Raiders gave up 391 passing yards in a 27-17 victory over San Diego last week.

Kansas City went 1 for 4 in the red zone and 1 for 12 on third-down conversions against the Titans.

"You can't make a living doing that, right?" Reid said. "You have to make sure you're more efficient on third down, and you have to shorten the third downs a little bit, too."

Looking to stay tied with Denver atop the AFC West, Kansas City begins a three-game stretch at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs, though, have averaged 12.3 points during their six-game home skid to Oakland.

The Raiders forced five turnovers against the Chargers and have eight takeaways in their last three games after recording none in the first two.

The Chiefs are also playing well defensively, allowing a league-low 11.6 points per game and ranking seventh in total defense at 312.8 yards a contest.

They could receive a tough test from Pryor, who went 18 of 23 for 221 yards and two touchdowns last week. His 135.7 passer rating was the highest for a Raider since Rich Gannon in 2002.

"He's probably leaps and bounds ahead of where we thought he would be at this point in time," coach Dennis Allen said. "The key for him is he continues to work and continues to strive to get better on the little things."

In his last two starts bridging a one-game absence due to a concussion, Pryor has connected on 72.5 percent of his attempts for 502 yards with three scores and no picks. He also leads the Raiders with 229 rushing yards on 37 carries.

Matt Flynn, beaten out for the starting job by Pryor in the preseason, was released this week.

Rashad Jennings started for the injured Darren McFadden and ran for 41 yards on 10 carries against San Diego before suffering his own hamstring injury. McFadden practiced for a third straight day Friday and continues to make progress, while Jennings is questionable.

Nice write up, TopekaRoy.

Found the injury report pretty interesting. Their prize center, Stefen Wisiniewski, is out...That means the backup gets to line up against Poe.

Chiefs-Raiders scouting report (http://www.kansascity.com/2013/10/12/4548658/chiefs-raiders-scouting-report.html)
October 12

When the Chiefs run
EDGE >> RAIDERS
Jamaal Charles, despite the painful blisters on his feet, leads the AFC in rushing but is averaging a pedestrian — for him — 4.3 yards per carry and has yet to break off a signature big run. His longest run is 24 yards. The Raiders rank 11th against the run and have held their opponents to a 3.7-yard average and long run of 19 yards.

When the Chiefs pass
EDGE >> RAIDERS
Alex Smith is coming off his least effective performance of the season, completing just 20 of 39 passes for 245 yards and an INT. He was fortunate another pass or two wasn’t picked. Smith did connect with Donnie Avery on a couple of 40-yard plus passes, but Avery is battling a shoulder injury. This would be a good week for Dwayne Bowe to break out. The Chiefs rank 20th in passing, and the Raiders, largely because of a game against Denver, are tied for 21st in pass defense. Oakland did not intercept a pass in its first four games but picked off San Diego’s Philip Rivers three times last week.

When the Raiders run
EDGE >> CHIEFS
Darren McFadden, who has been effective against the Chiefs when healthy, missed last week's game because of a hamstring injury, and his backup, Rashad Jennings, is also bothered by his hamstring. QB Terrelle Pryor, running the read option or scrambling, leads the Raiders in rushing and is averaging 6.2 yards a pop. The Raiders are banged up in the offensive line, as center Stefen Wisniewski missed last weeks game because of a sprained right knee, and as did right tackle Tony Pashos, who had a groin issue. A makeshift line won’t be able to handle Chiefs NT Dontari Poe and company.

When the Raiders pass
EDGE >> CHIEFS
Pryor, who has made just five NFL starts, is starting to blossom. He has completed 68.3 percent of his passes and has thrown 75 straight without an INT. His 135.7 passer rating last week was the best by a Raiders QB since Rich Gannon’s 138.9 in 2002. Pryor has been sacked 11 times in four starts this season, and the Chiefs, who lead the NFL with 21 sacks and rank No. 4 in the NFL against the pass, should be able to put heat on Pryor and force him into mistakes.

Special teams
EDGE >> CHIEFS
The Chiefs’ special teams have produced two momentum-seizing touchdowns in the last two weeks — Dexter McCluster’s 89-yard punt return against the Giants and Marcus Cooper’s recovery of a muffed punt at Tennessee. Punter Dustin Colquitt’s average of 41.8 yards has been affected by a sore knee, but he still has planted a NFL-most 15 punts inside the 20. Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski made nine field goals against the Chiefs last season, including five in a 15-0 win at Oakland. The Chiefs’ Ryan Succop is 10 of 12 this season, with both misses from beyond 50 yards.

Coaching
EDGE >> CHIEFS
If the season were to end today, the Chiefs’ Andy Reid would be a near-unanimous pick as NFL coach of the year (folks in New Orleans may disagree). Reid has pushed all the right buttons this season, and Raiders’ second-year coach Dennis Allen last week expressed his admiration for how quickly Reid has turned around a 2-14 disaster from a year ago.

X-factor
EDGE >> CHIEFS
The Arrowhead faithful will be trying to set a record for the loudest crowd noise at an outdoor sporting event and even brought the Guinness folks to town to document the attempt. Reid is relishing the opportunity to coach in the Chiefs-Raiders rivalry and has already worked up the Chiefs fans into a frenzy with his comments about how anyone wearing silver and black better be careful.

Bottom line: Chiefs 27-23

The Raiders’ six-game winning streak at Arrowhead defies description. It’s time the Chiefs beat Oakland at home in the first of a season-defining three-game homestand.

GO CHIEFS!!!!!
This game has me a bit nervous cause its the freakin Raiders and they always show up some how against the Chiefs.
Contain Pryor and it will not be 7 in row at Arrowhead for them.

Avery had two light practices and a full practice on Friday and is listed as probable. Fisher had 3 full practices and is also listed as probable. Fasano did not practice at all and is listed as doubtful.

Let's hope Alex keeps up his previous work against the Raiders and lights them up today.

This game also has me nervous but im expecting the chiefs to come out in a big way at home with this whole noise record nonsense hopefully motivating them to play their hearts out. This is a big time test for Pryor and he will likely catch some of the national stage in the QB scene as an up-n-comer if he comes out with an impressive win at arrowhead. Weather conditions at arrowhead are fair and favorable for the chiefs offense who wont have to deal with slippery footballs. After rewatching the titans game im really glad to have Fisher back as stephenson wasnt doing much better. Andy has been doing his homework so i hope he has these boys prepared for another fast and accurate QB. Previous contests between these teams over the years at arrowhead has always been a tale of a raiders elevated defense. They seem to thrive at arrowhead in that hostile environment and show up with CONSTANT pressure on the qb. so this is going to be a big test for the o-line and alex smith to think on his feet. Im expecting a good and close game. Ive personally felt that this of all the games we have before the bye was the biggest trap game since we started winning enough to consider such a thing. Its about time the chiefs come out and curb stomp the raiders and reclaim their dominance and respect at home against this organization.

I really believe if the Chiefs score 20 or more points somehow, then the Chiefs win. The Chiefs haven't scored more than 17 in the previous 6 contests at Arrowhead against the Raiders. That won't get it done.

The Chiefs O-Line must show up today and open some running lanes for Charles and protect Alex Smith. In fact, the Chiefs must win the war in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Time to put an end to the Raiders win streak at Arrowhead and this Chiefs team is the team to do it.

Agreed, but they have to let him heal for the 2nd half of the season and the bye week on November 10 will be sooooooo welcome for the Chiefs walking wounded.

Cooper has played well & hopefully he'll keep it up today. Robinson should see some spot duty. Overall, the other DB's that are going to play have to step up and take up the slack of Flowers absence.

Most of the points that the Raiders scored last week against SD came off turnovers. They haven't lit anybody up with their Offense. The Chiefs simply need to take care of the football.

Andy Reid is learning just how ferocious the raider's D plays this KC offense. this isnt a waltz down the field effort here. blitzes come quick and fast with this Raiders' D. This is how they exposed us in 2010 as being a weak offense. This set the playbook for the Raven's #1 D to handle KC with ease in the wildcard round. Chiefs are going to have to do a better job than this.

This is how raiders play. Theyll make a huge statement vs KC , and the next week will get humiliated by the browns (just an example). Chiefs have historically not been able to keep up with the speed of the raiders (moore always winds up gashing us like this) - and we cant let our QB breathe against their pass rush. its like they turn into super motivated super human freaks when playing KC>

I just wish chiefs could step up and show some of that same pride - because right now theyre just looking flat out lazy.

I dont think this is showing a lack of talent on the offense, its really a matter of winning the line up front. adjusting to cover the 6-7 man rush, and giving a bail option for the pressure.

i mean you have to give your QB a chance to plant his feet and the WR's to get past the 1st down mark to make plays.

The difference in the game so far has been this. Pryor has had time to throw. Smith has had time to... well realize that he doesnt have enough time to do anything but throw it away.

alex smiths numbers for the half look horrible. so is this a QB failure and a chance to call the kid a 'mediocre game manager'? i dunno, hard to do anything with no open receivers and instant pocket implosion... even on simple 4 man rush that line is getting decimated. by far the weakest area of the team, with the receiver corps in a close second. I can see a clear difference in his unwillingness to force a throw into coverage for interceptions vs matt cassel's hurried expedience. Of course you cant make big plays without taking chances, but if you have to rely on slinging into coverage to gain any yards, youre doing something wrong to begin with.

defense seems to have allowed more pass completions than normal (including the gash by moore) using zone coverage the first half? theyve done a rather great job of containing the run game, save pryor. no wonder oakland was so quick to dump Flynn, a non-rushing QB would be annihilated in that backfield environment.

Mccluster needs to learn to call for a fair catch. One of these days he will get knocked out and even lose the ball.
