Weather forecast: http://a.espncdn.com/i/weather/mobile/85.png 62 degrees, sunny

Line: Chiefs -7.5, Over/Under: 39.5
The Browns are 3-4 ATS.
The Chiefs are 5-2 ATS.

Game Plans:
Chiefs:
If the Chiefs stick to the plan that's given them seven victories in seven games they should be able to make it eight in a row against the Browns. That formula has been led by a defense that allows very few touchdowns/points (eight touchdowns, 81 points), takes the ball away (19) and sacks the quarterback (35). The Chiefs rank No. 1 in the league over all three categories. Cleveland on the other hand is No. 25 in points scored (131), tied for No. 12 in giveaways (10) and tied for last in sacks allowed (27). With that defensive effort, they need at least one big contribution from their special teams and the Alex Smith-led offense must throw in a few scores, while maintaining ball security.

Browns:
It won't be easy, but the Browns would like to find a way to run successfully against the Chiefs. Leading rusher Willis McGahee is averaging only 2.9 yards a carry.

Chris Ogbonnaya carried four times for 15 yards in Green Bay and could get more opportunities Sunday.

The Chiefs are giving up an average of 4.8 yards a carry, but they have allowed only two rushing touchdowns.

The alternative to concentrating on the run is turning on the Kansas City sack machine. The Chiefs lead the NFL with 35 sacks.

Notable Quotables:
Chiefs:
"You don't worry about what people say. You don't worry about records. You prepare yourself, you respect the opponent, you study the opponent and then you get yourself right. If you stay with that, all the other stuff doesn't matter." -- Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

Browns:
"Obviously, you want consistency at your quarterback position every week, but from that standpoint, that's out of our control." -- Browns WR Davone Bess.

ESPN Game Preview (http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/nflpreview?gameId=331027012):

While staying relatively healthy, the Kansas City Chiefs have gotten the benefit of facing some quarterbacks who were thrust into a starting role because of injuries.

On Sunday, the Chiefs will take on a team that's making a change at that position for a different reason.

Jason Campbell is taking over for the ineffective Brandon Weeden as the visiting Browns face the arduous task of trying to end Kansas City's reign as the NFL's only unbeaten team.

The Chiefs (7-0) have faced opponents with a combined 15-33 record and two were without their starting quarterbacks -- Tennessee on Oct. 6 and Houston last week.

Along with starting rookie Case Keenum in place of Matt Schaub, the Texans also lost top running back Arian Foster and linebacker Brian Cushing to injuries as the Chiefs posted a 17-16 victory.

"The best thing about this team, we've had a lot of bad luck in the past; we're taking success the right way, being very humble about it," linebacker Derrick Johnson told the Chiefs' official website. "Character speaks after a win and we will still come back and grind like we're losing. We'll come back and try to get to 8-0. It's a great feeling. We're loving it."

The Chiefs, meanwhile, have only two rookies who are missing and both were likely to serve as backups, tight end Travis Kelce and safety Sanders Commings. That health has helped Kansas City get off to its best start since winning its first nine games in 2003.

"This is a rough business. Injuries do take place. I get it. But we've been fortunate," coach Andy Reid said. "That's really what it is."

The defense has played a significant role in the Chiefs' incredible turnaround from last year's franchise-worst 2-14 finish. Kansas City has given up a league-low 81 points and no more than 17 in any game.

The Chiefs are fifth in average yards given up (304.6) and third against the pass with 194.7 allowed per game. With a league-best 35 sacks, they're on pace to top the 1984 Chicago Bears' NFL record of 72.

That's helped them stay unbeaten with an offense that ranks in the middle of the pack with 24.1 points and 330.7 yards per game.

Kansas City's defense will try to keep rolling against a Browns team that's allowed its quarterbacks to get sacked 27 times, tied for second-most in the league.

Weeden was brought down 21 times in his five games this season. He endured three of those in last Sunday's 31-13 loss at Green Bay while completing just 17 of 42 passes (40.5 percent) for 149 yards.

That performance caused coach Rob Chudzinski to turn to Campbell, who has made 71 career starts and is the third starter this season for Cleveland (3-4) along with the injured Brian Hoyer.

"It's a tough decision," Chudzinski said. "I believe this is in the best interest of the team, and ultimately gives us the best chance to win. I'm excited to see what Jason will do with this opportunity."

Campbell made one start and played in six games for Chicago last season.

"It's an opportunity to go out there and just get back to the game and just having fun," Campbell said. "Obviously, we want to go win games and do the best we can. But at the same time we understand we're a growing football team and our goal and mission every week is to go out and win games."

Campbell helped lead Oakland to wins over Kansas City in 2010 and 2011. The Browns blew out the Chiefs 30-7 in the most recent matchup Dec. 9.

Kansas City's Jamaal Charles opened the scoring in that game with an 80-yard run and finished with 165 yards on 18 carries. He's third in the NFL this season with 561 rushing yards and is tied for second with six touchdowns on the ground.

Charles has a team-leading 36 receptions and Dwayne Bowe is next with 25, but he'll be a game-time decision due to a groin injury suffered in practice Thursday.

Cleveland, which has won three of four in this series, is making its first visit to Kansas City since a 41-34 victory Dec. 20, 2009.

Chiefs-Browns scouting report (http://www.kansascity.com/2013/10/26/4578270/chiefs-browns-scouting-report.html)
October 26

When the Chiefs run
EDGE >> BROWNS
The Chiefs continue to put a big workload on running back Jamaal Charles, and he’s continued to thrive. But he still hasn’t broken a long run yet, and the offensive line, while largely good in the running game, has also been a little hit-or-miss at times. The Browns are going make it tough to pound away with interior linemen John Hughes, Ahtyba Rubin and Ishmaa’ily Kitchen and linebacker Paul Kruger. Linebacker D’Qwell Jackson has been a cinch to rack up 100 tackles on a yearly basis when healthy. Safety T.J. Ward has long been a willing hitter.

When the Chiefs pass
EDGE >> BROWNS
Andy Reid has built an offense that plays to quarterback Alex Smith’s ability to make quick decisions and avoid turnovers, but the tradeoff has been an inability to consistently produce long passing plays. They’ve also allowed 18 sacks, which is about league average, but that could spell trouble against a Cleveland defense that is silently intimidating (20 sacks, tied for eighth-most in the league). Outside linebacker Jabaal Sheard (1 1/2 sacks) can bring it in the pass rush, as can rookie Barkevious Mingo (three sacks) and defensive end Desmond Bryant (3 1/2 sacks). In the secondary, cornerback Joe Haden is one of the league’s best while Ward is beginning to flourish in pass coverage.

When the Browns run
EDGE >> CHIEFS
Cleveland features one of the league’s worst running games, and its woes figure to continue against the Chiefs. Running back Willis McGahee’s 2.9 yards-per-carry average indicates the 32-year old may not have much juice left, which should be music to the ears of a front seven that features several strong run defenders, including the three interior linemen (Dontari Poe, Tyson Jackson and Mike DeVito).

When the Browns pass
EDGE >> CHIEFS
The Chiefs feature one of the most fearsome pass rushes in the league, but Cleveland could match up better in the trenches than most. Left tackle Joe Thomas is a stud, and center Alex Mack is sturdy. They’ll be tasked with blocking Tamba Hali and Poe, though Justin Houston could have a big day against right tackle Mitchell Schwartz. Quarterback Jason Campbell steps in for the ineffective Brandon Weeden and has some nice targets in receiver Josh Gordon and tight end Jordan Cameron. But the Chiefs’ secondary is a strength that works in tandem with the strong pass rush to form the league’s stingiest defense.

Special teams
EDGE >> CHIEFS
Browns kicker Billy Cundiff has made 11 of 13 field-goal attempts (84.6). But Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop has been even better (12 of 14, 85.7), while Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt has established himself as one of the best in the league. He gets the edge over the largely unproven Spencer Lanning. Cleveland features a dynamic punt returner in Travis Benjamin, who returned a punt for a touchdown against the Chiefs last season and also has a punt-return touchdown this year. But the Chiefs’ Dexter McCluster also has a punt-return touchdown. Slight edge, overall, goes to the Chiefs.

Coaching
EDGE >> CHIEFS
Browns coach Rob Chudzinski, in his first year as coach, has coaxed a 3-4 record out of a team that is clearly looking toward the future (as evidenced by the Trent Richardson trade). He also has offensive coordinator Norv Turner and defensive coordinator Ray Horton, both respected play callers. Even still, it’s hard to give an edge to the Browns. Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton has orchestrated an imposing unit, while Reid has been a breath of fresh air for his players. It seems like everything he has done so far has worked.

X-factor
EDGE >> CHIEFS
To win this game, Cleveland has to perform well defensively, but the unit does have a kryptonite the Chiefs and the coach Andy Reid might be able to exploit: the Browns’ opponents have converted 45 percent of their third-down attempts, a number that ranks 29th in the league. Unfortunately, the Chiefs aren’t very good at converting third downs (36 percent, 27th in the league), so this is a bit of a toss up, one that tentatively goes to Reid becausse of his pedigree as a play caller.

Bottom line: Chiefs 24-13

Cleveland’s defense is a little better than you might think, and the Browns have a few pieces along the offensive line to counter the Chiefs’ pass rush. But at the end of the day, it’s going to come down to whether or not Campbell can make enough plays in the passing game to keep the Chiefs honest. He’s a veteran who has had moments of competency in the league, but the chances of him leading to the Browns to victory in front of a raucous Arrowhead Stadium crowd seems far-fetched.

time for a Brown out by our D. let's see if they can do some more 3rd down and 48

How the Chiefs forced a 3rd-and-48

The Chiefs defense had their signature moment of the season today against the Raiders: forcing Oakland into a ridiculous 3rd down and 48.

Damn it. Missed a wide-open Fasano on 2nd down & Fisher allowed a sack on 3rd down. Fisher has got to step up his game, as that's twice that missed blocks have cost them chances at TD's. Fisher will be facing Mario Williams next week and Williams will beat him senseless if he doesn't step his game up.

looked to me like he threw that ball to fasano back pedaling and off his back foot. no ability to step into the throw for a more accurate pass. I still think he needs to desperately make it a catchable ball, but the moment he threw it i dont think fasano was AS open as after he made his cut. so thats probably alex being conservative making sure he doesnt throw a pick.

fisher got owned on that 3rd and 8 and killed that td drive.

both situations looked like fast pressure. both times looked like he was holding the ball long enough to shoot for the endzone.

Fasano was open enough and that's a throw Smith is going to have to make. If he makes that throw the 3rd down play never happens. That's one I'm going to have to put on Smith

But now he gets the Chance to make up for it. He has done a good job today so far outside of that throw that he would like to have back. Just clean that up and this team should be able to put up a lot of points today. They've moved the ball pretty well.

youre going to put that squarely on smith when he made the throw back pedalling off the backfoot avoiding pressure coming up the middle? dont put any responsibility on the up front blocking there? I dont know if thats really fair...

Sometimes a QB is going to have to throw while under pressure. When you have a open guy in the endzone you have to hit him.

Like I said Alex is doing a very good overall job today that was just one he would like to have back I think he would tell you that

I think youre right in that of all the passes he remebers today, that will be at the top of the list.

I read an article this week that indicated that the wide open mcgrath pass he missed against the titans was something that weighted heavily on him post game even though they won the game. I like to hear that as it shows he is internalizing and learning.

I would like to say that I completely agree. Of course there should be some understanding of his limitations as a qb - but the things that he can do and can do well are doing very good things for this offense. And its not like every other qb in the league dont also have those same , or other limitations. Not everyone is a Peyton Manning. But the way he plays in this system when things are going well are very fun to watch.

I am hoping that this offensive unit just gets stronger as time goes on. For instance I see new targets rising through this season like mcgrath and sherman that have been getting increasingly more attention into the gameplan that adds new dimensions to the offense. getting DMC doing some things out of the back field. Lots of encouraging things happening.

What a pass. I thought it was too long but mcclustrer hauled it in! Great job .

mccluster is a short guy for a receiver, so its a bit difficult putting a line pass on a guy that height where he doesnt have to make a bit of an extension to catch it. smith has had a habit earlier in the season of way over throwing for mccluster's height, where it would have otherwise been very catchable balls for a guy of bowe's height.

Eydugstr

If Sean Smith can't get his head in the game better, I say give Cooper another shot. Defensively DJ has been the story so far, but if Sutton follows his own trend, he'll be bringing the house in the second half. The defense really didn't bite on the flea flicker as bad as other teams might've, it's just that Sean S. let the reciever get behind him enough to execute.

Agreed. Might as well have done a pooch-punt & the worst that can happen is it goes into the end zone and they start at their own 20-yard line.

You notice that Joe Thomas is showing the value of a stud Tackle as Hali has made no headway against him thus far. Let's hope Fisher rises to that level very quickly. Fisher did give Alex good protection on his TD throw to Dex.

the play calling has regressed. we were countering the 3rd down pressure brilliantly during the 1st half with well executed and designed screen options. where did the option go?

Lord-Chiefy

Colquit just got nailed, and our coverage men just sprinted downfield

iratefan

pretty sad when a 10 yard kicker obstruction penalty still wont get you the first down -_-

ctchiefsfan
10-27-2013, 03:29 PM
Wtf declined?? Gtfo Reid

It was running into the kicker. Not roughing. Wouldn't have been a 1st down. Colquitt looked hurt. Reid picked the best of 2 bad options.

Lord-Chiefy

I really don't think we stand a chance of winning.. but if we do I hope it wakes us the puck up

Good question. Can't figure out why this Offense is going to sleep in the 2nd half two weeks in a row.

iratefan

that was actually kindof a bad throw by campbell - that was just a really good catch by the tight end. looked short and to the left. still that separation was too much, but thats what you get when you have to adjust the coverage to account for the shorter dumps.

wtf was that playclock fiasco? it was like a timeout but it wasnt....

also i do NOT AGREE WITH a 2nd and 10 run call deep in our own endzone. this is some really **** offensive play design here in the second half so far. fisher is getting ****ed all day long and the OL has completely imploded. this is so disappointing to watch
