The Chiefs took Dee Ford with the 23rd pick of the first round on Thursday night, adding him to a collection of edge rushers that already includes Justin Houston and Tamba Hali. Beyond the eternal need for pass rushing and Ford’s demonstrated skill at it at Auburn, one reason to go that route is Hali’s…

Just move Tamba inside with DJ and have them flanked by Houston and Ford. Problem solved. ;)

Reid says that report is "bull poopy."

Maybe he added 15 pounds of muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Anyway, he will work off the extra weight in training camp.

Kinda shocked by this story. Hali has always had the reputation of being a hard worker.

Hali will burn off weight during camp. He's got to have a few extra pounds so as to not start the season too light. This is a natural thing for NFL players.

Perhaps the plan is to move him to 34LE to generate more pass rush. Or at least inside on nickel/dime packages.

Or perhaps we are switching to 43. He was originally drafted as a 43 DE anyway, and isn't Sutton more of a 43 guy than 34?

I don't know about that but ...
Walker, Poe, Devito, Ford
Houston, Johnson, Hali

That is an awesome front 7!

We don't play a lot of 3-4, anyway. We are usually in a nickel or dime package or moving a LB up to the line of scrimmage to give us a 4 man front. I would love to find a way to get Hali, Houston, Poe and Ford all on the field at the same time, but even if we just rotate in Ford to give Houston and Hali some extra rest, it will make our defense better.

Who would be playing out of position?

Hali and Houston are not 4-3 OLB. They are pass rushing LB's who converted from DE at some point. OLB in a 3-4 and a 4-3 are not the same position. And the DL; Ford is to small for every down DE and the rest of the line has no pass rush

I don't know. All I really did is replace Nico Johnson with Dee Ford and slide him up to the line of scrimmage. I'm just looking for a way to get Houston, Hali and Ford all on the field at the same time. Ford played 4-3 DE in college and Walker played 4-3 DE last year in Oakland, so I was just doing a little thinking out of the box, but yeah, it probably wouldn't work.
