View Full Version : Funny Mock Draft pokes fun at a bust

It's never too early for the NFL Draft (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-draft)! Actually, yes it is. This is too early right now because the season is going on. However, there are plenty of NFL fans are really just draft fans and SB Nation's Dan Kadar released a mock draft (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2015/10/6/9421295/2016-nfl-mock-draft-jared-goff-bears-joey-bosa-49ers-robert-nkemdiche-saints) this week.
So, today, we talk draft.
The Chiefs (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/kansas-city-chiefs) have the 17th pick in Kadar's mock draft. That make them an average team in the NFL which seems better than the 1-3 talk we've been hearing this week. Dan has the Chiefs selecting Michigan State OT Jack Conklin (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2015/10/6/9421295/2016-nfl-mock-draft-jared-goff-bears-joey-bosa-49ers-robert-nkemdiche-saints) in the first round.

Eric Fisher (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/193237/eric-fisher) has officially entered bust territory, so unfortunately the Chiefs could be once again faced with using a high draft pick on a left tackle. Conklin is a steady force at Michigan State, where he's just as comfortable beating speed rushers on the edge as he is getting downfield for a run block.
It doesn't seem like that long ago that the Chiefs were about to address their tackle concerns with Eric Fisher yet by draft season that will have been three years in the past. The Chiefs will probably need a tackle whether you consider Fisher or not because Donald Stephenson (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/154903/donald-stephenson), who is starting at left tackle right now, is playing in the final year of his contract. The Chiefs in the past two-plus years have shown that they don't pay their own linemen so, based on that, I am not expecting the Chiefs to pay Stephenson and keep him after this season. The same goes for Jeff Allen. That means the Chiefs need a tackle and that means they need to draft one because they can't go bargain bin hunting for tackles like they did with interior lineman Geoff Schwartz (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34381/geoff-schwartz).
What's also going to be fascinating here is if the Chiefs consider a quarterback in the first round. Even if Alex Smith (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1839/alex-smith) starts to ball out this season, the Chiefs need to think about their long term plan at quarterback. Barring any injuries or surprises, Smith is going to be the Chiefs starting quarterback through the 2016 season. That means the Chiefs might consider a long-term quarterback option in this draft. There are a million variables at play here - first of all, how Smith plays out the rest of this season - but it's something that will certainly be discussed next April.
What position do you want the Chiefs to take next year?

Sure, and if there is a QB available, watch all these people calling Fisher a 'bust', all of the sudden become Fisher's biggest fans.

Too bad people are too blind to see that the real busts are Allen and Stephenson.

The line as a whole is terrible this year, I can't really remember the last time we had a line this bad, maybe you can refresh my memory cause I can't really remember one

And I definitely think they need to draft Big Man Conklin for the RT or LT spot to help out the kids

I'm going to point the finger at Allen and Stephenson for both not becoming solid contributors to the Chiefs O-Line.

I think this is first that I can remember none of these guys really have locked or stolen away their positions pathetic

That's right, and Dan Kadar is just humping his neighbors dog & thinking he knows what he is talking about when he labels Fisher a bust, because if Kadar did have a clue, then he'd know that Allen and Stephenson haven't performed as well as Fisher has, or became decent players like Hudson did.

I've seen this scenario before. People clamoring during the season for O-Lineman to be drafted in round 1 in the next draft, but when it comes draft time next spring, many of the Chiefs fans will become infatuated with a player who is not an O-Lineman and clamor for that player to be drafted. Such was the case in 2009-2010, and exactly why the Chiefs wound up with Berry instead of Russell Okung. The difference though is Albert stunk as a LT in 2009 and 2010, whereas Fisher has show he can do a credible job on both sides of the O-Line.

As for the 2010 draft, chalk me up as a fan who wanted Okung over Berry.

Personally, I like this guy as a better O-Line prospect for the Chiefs than Conklin:

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1984251/vadal-alexander

He's played both RG and RT and done very well.

Vadal Alexander would be nice to, would be nice to get Vadal in the first and Conklin fall to us in the 2nd then both Tackle positions are solidified by men for years to come

I'm going to assume that what you mean by "both Tackle positions are solidified by men for years to come" is that Fisher and Conklin are manning the Tackle positions with Alexander being the RG.

I'm not seeing Fisher as another Robert Gallery and moving to Guard, as the overhead camera just doesn't back this at all.

Wouldn't that be awesome though I doubt it will happen but that would give us Conklin, Grubbs, Morse, Vadal and Fisher that line would be scary good. I'm over Stevenson if we had a line like that we would definitely have to learn to pay our Oline

I'm beginning to think it's a combination of coaching, plus the Offensive scheme & play-calling that's really the biggest problems with the Chiefs O-Line. And it doesn't help that the Defense has become non-existent to the point the Chiefs have had to play from behind these past two weeks, which means having to throw the ball more.

A coach can only coach so much though eventually the players have to take what they've learned and do it. We definitely need a overhaul at some oline positions

Morse and Fisher can stay build around them, LDT can stay as a backup, everyone else can leave

I believe that as well. And there has to be another QB most likely, as well. Alex is broken and there most likely isn't a fix.
