Only thing I have *heard* (RUMOR ALERT!) is that DAT wanted a full week off after clearing Concussion protocol before playing again and that Dorsey and DAT's agent had discussed it and agreed to it.

But that is just rumor.

It's more than just a rumor. It's news. Terez Paylor reported it in the Kansas City Star 3 days ago and Chiefs4Life24 posted it in the "DAT update" thread, HERE (http://www.chiefscrowd.com/forums/showthread.php/25782-DAT-update).

Per Terez Paylor

De’Anthony Thomas’ agent, Jerome Stanley, tells me that both sides collectively decided to give Thomas a full week to return to the field.

Stanley said the timing of Thomas' clearance from the league's concussion protocol did not allow that for Sunday's game.

I would assume that because DAT has been out so long he didn't want to just jump in as soon as he cleared protocol. He wanted a full week to practice and get in better game shape, and since the Chiefs won every game that he did not play in ...

Thank you Roy for correcting me!!!! I knew I had read that somewhere but since I couldn't remember where I'd read it I thought it best to call it rumor rather than fact. I hate to state something as fact if I can't provide a source. The exceptions of course being things that are universal facts like the Raiders and Donkeys are both USELESS P.O.S.

"Personal issues" is what Andy said for DAT being absent for the Browns game. He was physically clear to play.

If we get DAT back, I hope we use him differently. Instead of all the sideline passes which usually go nowhere and force DAT to use his abilities to the most to make anything happen, put him in middle slot route where his speed and direction could stretch a secondary.

Yea i haft to agree eydugstr we haven't used him very well.. And middle slot like pats used wes welker would have been great for him.... I rly think he going to quit the nfl bc of his last concussion rly scared him..

If DAT is spooked by concussion he won't be of any use anymore even if he is persuaded to come back. He will be very unreliable on the field. The first footsteps he hears around him will make him panic and fumble or not catch a ball.

His speed and quickness is a very worthy weapon for the Chiefs. It would be a big loss if he cannot perform in time for the playoffs.

I agree. I also support him if he wants to quit. He is cleared to play now and if all he wanted was an extra week then fine. If the Docs said he was good to go but he felt he wasn't then he should get that extra week off. But there is no use in trying to convince him to change his mind if he is truly spooked. That wouldn't do him or our Chiefs any good.

Yes. My point is if this thing is based on his fear of concussion it becomes a head problem (no pun intended) and eve if HE thinks he can physically play his fears will negatively affect his effectiveness.

It will be sad if DAT can't get back on the field and play in the post-season, because prior to that concussion, he was starting to emerge as a play-maker in the Chiefs Offense, and we all know about his return skills. May have to shop for a similar player in next years draft, I suppose.

Chiefs placed WR/return specialist De'Anthony Thomas on season-ending IR, per source.

He is done then, something else is going on

I suspect we have seen the last of DAT. I wish him good luck with his future endeavors.

Non football/injury list so I expect the next few weeks to hear him announce his retirement

That is sad. He was a versatile weapon for us. I was hoping we'd have his added dimension to our attack in time for the playoffs.

Sounds like DAT is afraid for his health/life & when you are thinking like that, then you know it's time to exit stage left.

I don't blame him if he thinks that way. But I'm still hoping that is not really the case and we will get him back sometime. Don't forget we are all speculating. He could be having other personal issues to resolve.

BTW, if he retires do we get a draft pick compensation?

Nope. The Chiefs would get nothing. We need to look at drafting a similar player in the 2016 draft.

I remember, thinking we were going to draft McCluster's replacement, wanting Dri Archer in the 2014 draft for the role that we drafted DAT for. Was disappointed that we got DAT instead. Then it looked like we got the better player and I was satisfied. Now I'm back at the thought of maybe if we had drafted Archer........

Hindsight is 20/20....

"I asked Reid if the plan is to have DAT in 2016. He said he doesn't know, that's in Dorsey's realm."

With DAT no longer available, the Chiefs need Chris Conley to really assert himself going forward. Conley does have the same type of speed that DAT has, although Conley is better served working on the outside with Wilson taking the duties as a slot WR.

My thought exactly. The post-season end up being the unveiling of Conley.

+2. He's been making a lot of plays lately on special teams, but we really need to develop a WR to complement Maclin.

Definitely agree. I'd love to see Wilson get a shot at being our speedy WR; He'd be a little bit better target, and has gotten more consistent as the season has gone on.

Looking back on it...We should've kept McCluster. He's not even on the roster and the man is still making me eat crow!
