It's still just OTAs but there are good things being said about Marcus Cooper's move to safety. I'm not sure if this will be a full-time switch like Jamell Fleming but Cooper has been seeing snaps at safety this offseason after playing mostly corner in his first three seasons in the league.

Id tell you its kind of the same kind of thing with (Ron) Parker, he can do both," Andy Reid said of Cooper via quotes from the Chiefs. "Hes had some good snaps for us here the last few days at corner, hes had some good snaps at safety too."

The Chiefs play with a lot of defensive backs in today's passing game. Some are corners, some are safeties so it makes sense that the Chiefs would try using Cooper's rangy 6'2 body in another way after losing Husain Abdullah and Tyvon Branch in the offseason.

"Bobs got a couple little defenses there, different defenses there where hes setting him back as a free safety and working some free safety with him. Hes got good range and hes smart, most of all hes a smart guy.

The nickel defense - five defensive backs - is essentially the base defense. The Chiefs will put one or two more out there too. Marcus Peters, Phillip Gaines, Eric Berry and Ron Parker seem like the only ones assured of playing time. Everyone else is competing, including the Chiefs three drafted defensive backs.
