The Kansas City Chiefs multi-year extension given to Eric Fisher this offseason came out of the blue and was criticized by plenty of people. Fisher had gotten better each year but he was still merely an average tackle and a No. 1 pick no less. What were the Chiefs thinking paying him like a top tackle?
Apparently, they were thinking he was on the verge of taking a big step. I wrote at the time that the extension was the Chiefs paying him for what he can do, not what he has done (http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2016/8/1/12340666/chiefs-are-paying-eric-fisher-for-what-he-will-do-not-what-he-has-done).
So, what can he do? He can end the week as Pro Football Focus’s top ranked left tackle.
Let me repeat that: Eric Fisher is PFF’s No. 1 ranked tackle in Week 1 (https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-pffs-team-of-the-week-for-nfl-week-1/?utm_content=buffer04298&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=nfl).

I know, I know, the Chargers front isn’t the Seahawks or Rams front. More tests will come. Still, some context is there because Fisher played pretty well in the preseason, too. This didn’t come out of nowhere. The Chiefs told us back in his first summer in the league that it would take a while. Through one week four years later, they were right.
Up next? The rematch against JJ Watt, who contemplated retirement (http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2016/04/17/jj-watt-houston-texans-injury-nfl-future-retirement-peter-king) the last time he faced Eric Fisher (this is gonna be a fun week).

Or we could have paid Branden Albert 10 million a year(sarcasm). People really need to get over this and accept the fact Fisher is a decent player & was the right choice.

This is what I was trying to tell people a year ago when the media was constructing false scenarios without anything substantial to back up what they were saying about him being a "bust". I had watched the games and watched Fisher closely & the visual evidence wasn't backing what they were saying. Look no further than the player taken 2 spots behind Fisher by Miami (Dion Jordan) if you want the REAL definition of BUST, as Jordan has contributed next to NOTHING to the Dolphins since they drafted him.

At least Fisher has played competitively & given a reasonably good effort. Sure, he'll probably have some less than stellar moments against JJ Watt this coming Sunday, but that is par for the course. You don't go up against JJ Watt for an entire game and not get beaten at some point in time, as Watt is too good a player.

Oh yes I remember when it was a "big loss" to lose him.

I really never understood that. He couldn't stay healthy nor was he really that good. Fisher is better. They made the right move

And if you notice in other threads, there is question about Marcus Peter's character. What about Fisher's character? Can anyone rightfully deny that Fisher has been a solid citizen in every regard?

There was some talk that Fisher is a dirty player after the Houston playoff game when he OWNED JJ Watt But that's about as much as I've ever heard.

I think people are making to much out of Peters raising his fist myself. That stuff doesn't bug me at all.

Was there ever a question regarding Fisher's character? The only question was will he make it in the NFL which, has already been addressed with the Chiefs re-signing him and a solid years last year.

Well, I do remember Sean Smith (not the CB, but the former DT) calling into question Fisher's character before game 1 last season, so yes, there was someone that was doing that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but LT Luke Joekel who went immediately after Fish hasn't exactly set the world on fire. In fact last I heard his name his team was contemplation moving him to guard. Some people were ****sure that he would be a perennial ProBowler while Fish would be a bust.

Yes, there were some saying he didn't have his heart into playing. Totally different issues from Marcus Peters in regards to character questions.

You're not wrong. There were a lot of draft "experts" saying that he was the only sure bet in that year's draft. To be fair to Joeckel, he went to a team that has a lot of front office issues.
