Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs have signed highly touted Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome to a four-year contract. Although financial terms were not released, it is believed to be worth $48 million.
"On behalf of the entire Cubs organization, we're honored Kosuke Fukudome has chosen to become a member of the Chicago Cubs and very excited to introduce him to our great fans," said Cubs vice president/general manager Jim Hendry. "We are looking forward to welcoming him to Chicago next week and helping make Wrigley Field his home."
Fukudome has been compared to Ichiro Suzuki, but his numbers in Japan more resemble that of Tampa Bay infielder Akinori Iwamura.
A first round pick of the Chunichi Dragons in 1999, Fukudome was the Central League MVP in 2006, hitting .351 with 31 home runs and 104 RBI. Fukodome also stopped Hideki Matsui's run for the triple crown in 2002, with the highest batting average in the league at .343.
Fukudome, who averaged 29 homers per season from 2003-06, hit just .294 with 22 doubles, 13 home runs, and a .520 slugging percentage last season, but had his campaign cut short after 81 games because of a right elbow injury and underwent surgery to remove bone fragments on August 20.
Fukudome entered the Central League as a shortstop, but was moved to third base in his second season after a series of errors in his rookie campaign led to his team's loss in the championship series. Eventually he was shifted to the outfield, where his natural speed and strong arm enabled him to win four Gold Gloves.
Fukudome was chosen for the 2006 World Baseball Classic, and hit a pinch-hit two-run home run off Byung-Hyun Kim in the semifinals against Korea. He also had a two-run pinch-hit in the finals against Cuba.

Even if there was a roof, Wrigley would never host a Superbowl. Football has been played there in the past, however the playing surface ran right to the brick wall, which makes for a bad situation on passes to the back of the endzone. As the passing game is more predominant than it was in the past, and the investment in players is so high, I can't see the NFL putting a Superbowl on a non-football surface, especially when there are numerous better options.

A few from around 1980 I always liked were John Wockenfuss (Tigers), Dexter Clinkscale (Cowboys), and I M Hipp (Falcons).

And Cecil FIELDER was a pretty apt name for a baseball player. And Mike Quick, wide reciever for the Eagles.

Hmmm, what's some cool Chiefs names? I rather like Todd Blackledge, Deron Cherry, and the current Brodie Croyle.

I like that Foote one. It's apt since he was a punter, and apt since the name of the game itself is foot(e)ball! Hey and the Jets also had a wide receiver Ed Bell during this time. So standing next to each other from the back they read "Foote Bell", heh.

I remember the Redskins had a punter then named Mike Bragg. And I always liked the name of Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian. Oh say, that just brings to mind, the Dolphins had that running back Jim Kiick, definitely an appropriate name for a football player!

And our 70's kicker Jan Stenerud had a cool name too, and was one heck of a kicker!

And in 1980 I saw him hit one of his 3 home runs that year (only one of 12 for his whole career) at Philadelphia. Since I have always cheered for the opponents of Philadelphia teams, I cheered when he hit that solo home run in the top of the ninth. A Phillie fan near me shouted, "He sucks!".
