Before last year I would have picked Marino (even without the SB win).

Did they do this poll to see what everyone thinks about Favre retiring?

No doubt about it, Joe was a great field leader.

He saw things that were invisible to the average NFL QB!

Favre just did it for so long I gotta give it to him.

I guess it depends on what you base the question on. IMO, Joe was better because he had more supa bowls, he led one of the greatest dynasties of all time, and most importantly, he was a Chief.

:bananen_smilies046:

I agree with the Chiefs part, but a QB does not win the SB alone. Joe's dynasty was pretty good around him too (not that Favre never had any help) but the numbers speak for themselves. Look at how they play the QB position and Favre has done it all.

I'm not gonna argue my point too much. Like I said, Faav-reh was great. I just base it on Super Bowls. Plus, I grew up watching Joe. Favre got big while I was stoned and after I joined the Navy.

I guess I just don't think SBs is the only thing that makes a QB great. I am not saying that Joe is no good, but Favre has pretty much every statistical record. It's kinda like Jerry Rice then everyone else shares second place n the record books.

I love Favre but went with Montana. I don't judge just by his records because you can't know what Joe would have done if he or any others would have done had they played 17 years. Longevity doesn't equal the best IMO. Toughest yes!! What were their numbers after 10 years? Favre might not be in the top 5.

Well, I guess if you take away one of the things that makes Favre the greatest then you could argue that. Fact is Favre played 17 years and never missed a game. EVER. So yeah, I guess that shouldn't count. Joe didn't playy 17 years, couldn't play 17 years. It's not just longevity that I am counting, but it does count for something.

Hmmm...let me elminate a few 49ers QBs from the list...

I did not pick Steve Deberg, I did not pick Steve Young, I could not, did not pick Bono. I would not select Jeff Garcia, even though he's probably HH's type. I would not, could not select Alex Smith, nor YA Tittle. Not Frank Albert, nor John Brodie. Certainly not Steve Spurrier. I wouldn't want Tom Owen, or Joe Reed, not Jim Plunkett or Norm Snead. It's that guy Montana, "The Golden Boy"...I'd say he's the best and remember with joy...

"You take the good with the bad!" - Brett Faav-reh

The major point being he broke the bad record sooner than he broke either of the good ones. He's a great QB, and I'd rather have him (even at his current age) than Alex Smith...but alas, I'd rather take Joe in his prime still.

Although an argument could be made for a couple others who didn't make this list...Unitas, anyone?

You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs! This is an argument that could go on forever, but Brett with Joes team and Joes with Bretts and how would they have faired? I don't think Joe would have touched what Favre did. I guess for me it is Bretts enthusiasm, love of the game and durability that has made him stand out above other QBs for me!! :bananen_smilies046:
