I dont think so . I think he messed up and tried covering his tracks. But Adam Schefter (sp?) said the dolphins have only been working with Long and Long only as far as he has heard so who really knows . I was kinda excited when I saw that interview.

I just don't understand why they would need to use subterfuge when they can take whoever they want with number one?

I still don't see what the advantage of subterfuge is when you have the first pick.
Who are they trying to fool?
They can take whoever they want, so the only thing I can think of is they are hoping to get someone to trade for their pick.
I just don't get it.

I think Bill Parcells has a couple of plans.
Plan A-trade down (Miami has tons of needs, he knows it)...this is the primary reason he is negotiating with multiple players, by doing so he includes more teams in the possible discussion of trading up to #1.
Plan B-Negotiate with 3-4 players that are at the top of the board, and sign the one who accepts the least money.
I think it is that simple. Honestly as good as Jake Long is the problem in Miami isn't so much the O-line as the QB & defense. The O-line isn't great but really both Ronnie Brown and Jesse Chatman looked good at RB last year...the passing game was decent until both Trent Green (injury) and Chris Chambers (trade) were gone. Passing a talent like Jake Long is difficult, but in some ways it makes sense for Miami to do just that. Also the loss of Zach Thomas and the fact that Jason Taylor wants out, makes me think that the defense is in more dire need of attention than the offense.

I'm sure that if the Vikings and Tampa have contacted the Chiefs, at least 4-5 others have also and either have decided that the price isn't worth it, or that they don't have the picks to make the package work. In the case of the Dolphins, I don't think Jared Allen would be the right fit. He's a great DE, but wouldn't be as well suited to a 3-4 defense that Parcells will be running.
