Win the super bowl with us before he is done or will he opt out and go with another team and try his luck?

Do you honestly think we are goig to win a super bowl in the next 2-3 years?

I would chalk us up as OUT for next year and the year after that, third year out MAYBE.

And judging from what TG has already said, I think he will opt out, UNLESS Pioli convinces him to stay~

2010 is real possible that is a bad attitude to have. but i doubt tony will be with the chiefs then i think he is gone this year sad but true

Playoffs next year, a shot at the superbowl the next. Look at the teams still in it this year. You don,t have to be that great to make the playoffs, and once your in, who knows, you could get hot. (i.e. cardinals, eagles, ravens)

Not quite a bad attitude, I am just a realistic fan. I love my team, but I am very objective~

I doubt the super bowl odds as well, but I'm not sure he opts out anyway. Very few teams will depend on him as we do, and there's never a guarantee that he will go to the super bowl. I think his trade-fiasco was just a reaction to a struggling period, if we have a positive team that wins 50% I doubt he cares. Plus, if TG (franchise hero) leaves the franchise for a team that doesn't go to the super bowl in time anyway, it'd be a sad realization for him.

TG has no better odds of winning a superbowl somewhere else as a rent-a-player than he does here with the team he bled and stuck with all these years.
TG will get his ring right here - in KC.
Thats why Pioli was brought in.
To win a superbowl.
And we will.
Within 3 years.
Out.

I tend to agree, but probably for different reasons.

The odds of ending up another team that makes it to the superbowl are very slim. At the beginning of this season, would you have said trade me to Philly, Arizona, Pittsburgh, or Baltimore so that I can go get my ring? Chances are probably slim. Even if you would have picked one of those teams, you probably wouldn't have chosen the one that will win a ring this year. Too much parity in mind. Finish your career as Tony Legend in the place where it all started.

I agree; first Pioli has to put the right mindset into whatever guys we may have. He is a smart guy, he may trade Tony for a fab player or a draft pick, or he may just convince Tony that next season is our season.

To make a long story short Tony is in his best years. He doesn't have that many years left so I think he should be traded to a team that has possibilities of being a SB contender. He deserves that!!

really? the 2008 Chiefs were a much better team than the 2007 Dolphins, and look where they went in one year. We could be contenders in 2 or 3 years from now.. no reason we couldn't if Pioli delivers as advertised.

Dick Vermiell was supposed to "deliver" as a HC(everyone believed that he would take us to SB). He was this fantastic coach who made superbowl teams but all we ended up with is alot of guys with over-extended egos that didn't play for the team. The first year with Vermeill both fans and players alike took it for granted that the chiefs were going to the SB.Even Tony believed it, remember that show that he hosted?
I hope Pioli "delivers" soon. He is human and only that. Don't tie on his cape yet.

what the dolphins did was unprecedented, and while I would love to see that happen, the reality is the chance is poor.

Heck, he might wind up with the Lions!!! LOL

There is no reason we cant make the playoffs in the two years.... especially with our division. The donkeys will be adapting to a new coach... LT may be out of SD this offseason not to mention they canned their assistant staff. Plus philip rivers is the anti-christ.... so that has to hurt your team sometime soon. And must I even mention the raiders. The AFC west just aint what she used to be. Now I am not saying superbowl.... but I believe playoffs are a very real possibility in the next year or two.
To visualize my point... the back banana it the chiefs and the front banana is the AFC west....

:bananen_smilies011:

And for the PG crowd this is the chiefs scooting past the competition....

It would be foolish to let Tony G go. If he really, truly wants out we need to persuade him that much more to stay. What can we really get for him? Draft pick(s), some depth, a decent lineman, tackle. How lucky would we need to be to get a pro-bowler let alone a Hall of Famer?

With all the holes we have on this team it would be just plain dumb to let go of our all pro/pro bowl/hall of fame TE who is under contract just because he wants to. Call it what you will, but we need Tony in a big way. Like I said earlier, if you really want to show Tony what he has meant to this franchise, get him his ring with KC in 2010.

I agree with you Canada. But the thing is convincing Tony to stay. I think it's a real possibilty that if he doesn't see a substantial amount of hope for next year, he could retire. That's why I think this off season is so important in the decisions the Chiefs make for the future. :D

If he does not get his ring playing for the Chiefs, then when he retires, lets make him a coach for the chiefs.

I would love to see Tony coach/mentor Cottam into the next HOF tight end here in KC when he does hang up his cleats.

I'd like to see Tony as a coach for the Chiefs. But realistically, how many successful players in the league become coaches these days. Very few, most of them go into broadcasting where the money's better and less stress:D.

Tony needs to stay. In retrospect, it was the best thing that Peterson did not do - trading T.G. Of course if the price was right, minimum 2nd round- he's worth every bit of that even with just 2-3 years left in him. 10 time Pro Bowler, all the records...pay it(2nd round) or not. I'd rather see him stay though.

I've been thinking the same thing. Tony loves the chiefs and the uniform he wears. He is a man of integrity, honesty, loyalty, and he has fantastic work ethics. I think he would make a great coach.

Yep, even if his days are limited, he is the kind of guy we need around for the younger guys, I think the kind of leadership and example he provides/hopefully continues to provide for the next few years is far more valuable than a couple of draft picks.

TG will retire as a Chief. I think his frustrations are getting to him. But he'll be good to go for a couple more seasons once he sees tangible leadership from Pioli. As far as him seeing a SB ring in 2010? I don't think so. I'd sure love for that to happen, but this team is at least 3 seasons away from serious play-off contention.

Like Coach said earlier...you probably would not have bet on Arizona, Baltimore or Philly having a shot at this years SB. All you have to do is get your team into the play offs (win the weak AFC West) and then get hot and win three games. I think 2010 is a possibility.

TG is a man that shouldn't have to sacrifice the possibilty of a SB just to provide "leadership" and an "example" to a bunch of babies that don't know how to play after the halftime. I love the chiefs but everyone who knows about the the chiefs' record know that Tony IS the chiefs. Of course there are a few others that showed promise but that's nothing when the when they don't know how to play four quarters.

Do you guys realize that yes this year we lost 14 games but only 2 were blow outs, every other game was winnable. We very easily could have been 14 and 2. We are not far off. everyone i know that arent chiefs fans even say they are close. I would be very upset if tony left but i would understand that he wants a ring. There is no guarantee that he will get a ring with any team.

While I somewhat agree with you, his contract says that isn't up to him, it's up to the guys in the front office. If he lives out his contract I honestly believe he has as good a shot as any to win a superbowl.

I really hope he retires as a chief. But I don't think he will be around long enough to win a Sb with us. However like Bike said, with the weak AFC west, we could win it and get into the playoffs then anythign could happen.
