So, I know a lot of people dont like Herm. But what about this idea, bring him back as the DB's coach. For those of you who think he would be too proud to accept such a role, here is what foxsports says:

"Edwards said he will decide between taking time off, doing TV, and being a defensive backs coach, a job he truly enjoyed before becoming head coach of the New York Jets. Edwards said he does not want to be a defensive coordinator."

He was a GREAT DBs coach and we have some good young DBs that could use a great coach.

I doubt that this is at all a possibility, but an interesting idea.

Here is the source for those that want to read the whole article: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9125882/Chiefs-fire-Herm-Edwards-as-coach

He could be a great defensive coach, but it just wouldn't work with him being in the lockerroom. It would be uncomfortable and a power struggle.

I agree. But I also think that if he was to take a demotion, it would be to go to the Colts. They apparently became interested in him since Pioli was hired. I'm OK with him landing with the Colts. Good for him.

I am not sure if a HC after 9 years will be up to taking a lesser postion like DB coach. Next to special teams coach, the DB coach is an entry level coaching postion.

according to fox, he doesnt want to be a defensive coordinator. I dont think he can get a job at the pro level as a HC. That really only leaves him with DB coach, which supposedly he loved doing.

I have actually thought about Herm as DC or a specialist coach for two weeks now. I just didn't think he would really want to take a demote.

Maybe he'll think its better to be demoted than out of a job.

Any job in the NFL that Herm could land should be considered a promotion for him at this point. And the Hunt family will still have to pay him the remainder of his contract for next year. So Herm outta be ok....
I like Herm and wish him all the best. He just aint HC material...

Agreed.

I would be happy to have Herm as a DBs coach. In fact, I would be thrilled about it.

But I seriously doubt that he would be willing to do it with the team that just fired him. And I also doubt that it would work. As Coach stated, it would be weird to have the head coach become a positional coach with the same team. And Herm would have far too much advice for the team hat he has been constructing for three seasons, to keep it to himself.

why would the Chiefs pay a db coach $4 million?
