So I'll be the first to admit, I know nothing of player contracts or anything.

What does RFA?

Same with UFA?

also while I am at it, I was on NFL.com and saw these guys were declared FA's. Does that mean the Chiefs don't want to resign or they are negotiating?

Jon McGraw (http://www.nfl.com/players/jonmcgraw/profile?id=MCG634887) declared free agent.
Rocky Boiman (http://www.nfl.com/players/rockyboiman/profile?id=BOI415291) declared free agent.
Pat Thomas (http://www.nfl.com/players/patthomas/profile?id=THO313708) declared free agent.
Jason Babin (http://www.nfl.com/players/jasonbabin/profile?id=BAB714004) declared free agent.
Oliver Celestin (http://www.nfl.com/players/olivercelestin/profile?id=CEL283611) declared free agent.

I asked this question a few weeks ago and I was directed to wikipedia. So I am going to do the same:
Free agent - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_agent#NFL_Usage)

This is my understanding, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Basically a RFA (restricted free agent) is someone who the team he was on the past season has the right to make a counter offer before they leave to another team. Also, they can put "tenders" on the players that means if someone else signs them they owe certain draft picks. We "tendered" Webb, Niswanger, and Page. If someone wants to pay them more than we offered, they have to give us draft picks too.

UFA is an unrestricted free agent, which means anyone can sign them and there is no compensation.

I dont know what "declared" free agents means. But these guys contracts expired and we havent re-signed them (yet). They are available to anyone to sign.

Hope that helps.

I hope we hang on to Jason Babin.

Me too.. he could be useful in the 3-4. He had 38 sacks in college and was a 1st round pick, so I think there is still some breakout potential there.

I'm also in favor of hanging on to Jason Babin. Heck, 2 of the team's pathetic 10 total sacks were Babin's, and he only played in 7 games last year. And between he and Hali, they had half the anemic sack total.

Give the guy 16 games and see what he can do.

I was kinda impressed with McGraw last year.

McGraw was great on special teams and not bad on defense either.

He seemed like a hard hitter.

Yeah. He was always around the ball on special teams. Either making the tackle or right next to the pile when the whistle is blown. I hope he hangs around as the special teams captain like he was last year.

People criticize him because he missed that one tackle that gave up a touchdown on kickoff. But what I saw was that he was the only guy who was anywhere near making a tackle.
