When you think about it. Truck drivers are the bone structure of us all.

The base of our civilization. The food you eat. The close you wear right now. The computer screen your looking at. All got to you courtesy a truck driver.

We owe them a lot of respect and to see someone this devoted to doing something this important get shot sickens me.

I hate to sound crazy but, what I am about to say is true. We will most likely stop killing each other and bond as a species after we have aliens come to our planet and attempt to take it away from us by extinguishing us like we all see in the movies. BTW, was that the Bob Knight that coaches Texas Tech Basket Ball ? (J/K) Trying to see a brighter side......

Nope. 90 percent of our imported and exported goods are transported via container ships from docks such as LA and Houston.

That is true, I guess I was thinking more along the lines of how you and I would ship things, UPS , FED X ya know. My bad and stand corrected. It really isn't just in Houston and LA, ships can even get as far inland as Chicago via the great lakes. New York has thousands of port docks , basically any land based city that is on a Ocean front has docks for ships to deliver to.I was amazed to learn that alot of the ships that travel the oceans also go inland via the great lakes, seen a show on History channel about it. Kinda cool.
Yeah as an engineer for Union Pacific I haul numerous double-stack and triple-stack intermodel trains that originate from either Houston or LA. We call them Wal-Mart trains! I'm sure there are other ports south and east but UP only operates west of the Mississippi so thats how I know that. And on Modern Marvels they showed a special on how intermodel facilities operate and that was also kinda cool...

So then you actually drive the train? That is a cool job man, props! I live in the country and about a 1/2 mile from my house is a train track that has a very old train house where people would get on the trains, they also have a old museum for the Rock Island Rail Road. That is kinda cool to go in and look at. Union Pacific uses the tracks now I believe. I wish we had a train house to board civilian trains for travel here but the closest one is in Osceola Iowa. About 100 miles from my house.

But got bumped off that and now mostly hauling coal and intermodels between KC and Coffeyville KS and Marysville KS...I'm at hotel in Marysville waitin for a train call as we type!...

I live in a private lake community called Diamondhead Lake, about 4 miles outside of Dexter Iowa. That is about 45 miles west of Des Moines so I know where you are. :bananen_smilies046:
