Dolphins quarterback Trent Green (left) fumbled Saturday night as he was sacked by Jaguars defensive end James Wyche.
MIAMI | About the only thing new quarterback Trent Green led the Miami Dolphins’ offense to Saturday night was a smattering of boos.
Green struggled in his Dolphins debut, underthrowing receivers and managing just 60 yards on six-for-15 passing with one interception in Miami’s 18-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the exhibition opener for both teams.
Green, the Dolphins’ biggest offseason acquisition, took every snap in the first half and led the Dolphins to just four first downs in six possessions. He exited amid boos from the crowd at Dolphin Stadium in four of his last five drives and led Miami to only one scoring drive — a 26-yard field goal by Jay Feely.
“He is still clever in the pocket,” Miami coach Cam Cameron said. “We’ll get our protection units squared away.”
Patrick Cobbs’ 3-yard touchdown run, followed by his two-point conversion run, provided the winning score for the Dolphins with 3:46 left — on a drive led by rookie quarterback John Beck, who was three for five for 23 yards in the series.
Josh Scobee missed a 43-yard field goal from the dirt with 42 seconds left to seal Miami’s victory. Scobee made an NFL-best 14 field goals last season between 40 and 49 yards.
Earlier this week, Cameron seemed to stir up a quarterback controversy or maybe just some competition. Green and backup Cleo Lemon were listed in the first-team column as co-starters on Cameron’s depth chart before the game.
The only thing separating them was a slash between their names, and the team’s exhibition opener didn’t seem to spell any separation. The loudest ovation of the night went to Beck when he entered early in the fourth quarter.
The Jaguars, who ranked second in the NFL in rushing last season with Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, have said that this training camp was all about fine-tuning the passing game. They didn’t shy away from throwing in their first of four exhibition games.
Byron Leftwich was seven-for-11 passing for 78 yards and a touchdown in his first game for Jacksonville since a loss against the Houston Texans on Oct. 22, when he suffered a sprained left ankle and later had season-ending surgery.
Leftwich dazzled Miami when he managed to stay off the ground. He was pressured constantly by the Dolphins defense, which played without reigning defensive player of the year Jason Taylor and stars Zach Thomas and Keith Traylor. All three were not in uniform, but Miami managed to sack Leftwich and hurry him several other times.

I feel for Trent, but I think he would have ran into the same thing here in KC as far as offensive line woes.

Oh, yeah. They are an intelligent bunch, too. They get irate when the Phins passed on Quinn, then boo Green, only to get excited about bringing in their rookie.

I remember a game in Arrowhead last year when They booed Trent and cheered Huard when he came in. Trent hurt his ankle or something and came back in a few plays later and Got booed again. It was a sad day but even Chiefs fans booed him after all the years he gave us. Everyone wants to win no matter what the cost . At a game you paid $100 plus for a ticket you will hear lots of boos when a QB has a bad game no matter where you are .

I know , I know I read the first post and I reacted without thinking of Chiefs fans feelings. Im sorry ! But I speak the truth , I have to admit I was happy to watch Huard come in and throw a Touchdown on the particular drive. Then Trent came back in and stunk up the place . I could not see Herms Logic for using Green no matter what the ole saying says about the #1 QB not losing his spot when hes injured . Huard Saved the season for the most part last year and I for one was scared S###less when Trent went down(the first game of the year). I knew nothing of Huard and look what a blessing he turned out to be for the chiefs. We very easily could have been as bad as the Raiders last year if Croyle came in with no experience . I Love Trent but Im glad hes in Miami now . His day in the sun is kinda fading and we have good deal going here as long as long as Huard doesnt go down with a Big injury . Croyle might be good but he has no experience to be the number one guy IMHO. We really need Huard to salvage this season or to at least make it somewhat bearable. If not I might get a good deal on season tickets for 08 from a disgruntled fan. Either way I win !

In my opinion, the fans were booing Herm not Trent.

I agree. I think the fans were just upset that Herm was taking out Huard

True, They could have been Booing Herm , But Trent was the reason they were booing - They booed when they put him back in and cheered when Huard came into the game , So Either way you look at it It was about Trent
