I seem to recall a couple of years ago a conservative game manager QB came in here and in his first start with the team beat a very good team that had won all 13 games they had played so far that year. You were so impressed with him that you adopted his name as your own! Remember Kyle Orton?
You can't score if you don't have the football. One of the biggest reasons the Chiefs went 2-14 last year was all the turnovers. So far, our starting offense hasn't turn the ball over once in the first two ps games. When the Chargers played the Bears last week they turned the ball over 4 times and trailed 20-0 near the end of the 2nd quarter.
You're not going to score every time you get the ball. Sometimes, you'll have to punt. but by playing "careful" football and methodically marching the ball down the field, Smith will put this offense in a position to be successful.
Before taking more risks and becoming more of a gunslinger, the players around Smith have to play better. You need time to throw to make the long passes. You need an effective running game so the the defense can't just drop 8 guys into coverage. And most importantly, you need your receivers to catch the balls that are thrown to them. This offense is still working on the basics. Give them time to gel. The big plays will come.
