Would you rather...


• Draft David DeCastro in round 1 to replace Lilja at LG, and look to fill RT via Free Agency?

• Draft David DeCastro in round 1 to replace Lilja at LG, and a RT in rounds 2-3?

• Draft Jonathan Martin or Riely Reiff round 1 to fill RT, keep Lilja at LG for another year, draft developmental OG like we did with Asamoah?

• Draft Jonathan Martin or Riely Reiff in round 1 to fill RT, and draft an interior lineman rounds 2-3 to replace Lilja?

• Draft Jonathan Martin or Riely Reiff in round 1 to fill RT, and fill LG via Free agency (such as Carl Nicks or Ben Grubbs) to replace Lilja?

AND FOR MY PICK....

I like a couple options, but I just can't bring myself to passing on this guy if he is there...

Draft Trent Richardson round 1, we will have the best run game in the NFL with him and Charles no matter who our line would be... Address RT in round 2, leave Lilja at LG, and a developmental interior lineman rounds 4-6

I say this because I think we can find a decent starter at RT in round 2 like Zebrie Sanders from Florida State. Realizing that Lilja is older, and he did miss two games last year I would love to have a backup plan for him, or would even love to replace him with Grubbs or Nicks. But I do think we look to draft a developmental OG in a mid round no matter what.

Case and point, Richardson is the top player at his position, and probably the best RB prospect since Adrian Peterson. I would rather have the #1 prospect at a position group than settle for the #3 at another.

Saw this on a mock draft and changed my perspective of what I thought about the opportunity to take Richardson:
"For Chief fans who want a tackle or something else over Richardson, let me remind you of Arizona's 2007 NFL Draft. The Cardinals had a very slight need at running back (as much as Kansas City needs one), and Adrian Peterson was on the board at No. 5. They instead opted to take an inferior talent who filled a much bigger need. Five years later, I'm sure Arizona would rather have Peterson over Levi Brown.

Richardson is the best running back prospect since Peterson. Taking him here is the right move because you don't choose a Levi Brown over an Adrian Peterson."

No I do not think Richardson will bring us a championship, and no the Vikings aren't exactly lighting it up either (but look at who surrounds AP) If AP was on this Chiefs team, our offense would be one of the top in the NFL. Fact of the matter is that I love Charles so much I don't want to see him get torn up trying to carry the load! The mismatches we could create with Charles, McCluster, and Richardson would be freaking Nasty...It is a sexy move, but one that I do think would help this team out drastically.

Not a fan of running backs in the first round, so I would like any of the scenarios involving Martin/Reiff.

Yes I did I was going from memory and that is bad these days I am retired after all. But Tolbert would be a good matchup with Charles and McCluster. Put Tolbert in with either of the other two and who is the defense going to play the bowling ball between the tackles, the speed demons around the edge or a pass?

I would be delighted with any of these as well.

About a month ago I kinda critictised the idea of drafting Trent with the first, but after thinking long and hard I think it would be the single biggest pick we could pick. Our run game would be down right evil.

Decastro will be the most likely to still be there, and he would be my second choice. however I would love to see any of these four as a chief.

ps..... Of course we should see what we can land in the fa and draft what we can't sign through fa.

As Petersons blockers have departed, his success rate has gone down. And I think The Cardinals are doing far better for their pick at OT than The Vikings are.

Having Richardson and Charles. It would be the best 1-2 punch rushing attack in the NFL

The problem I see with this is, in 2013 we will be drafting around 26th to 32nd and he will be long gone.

I thought the exact same thing... Case and Point is he would be the most talent player available if he was there. I first liked the idea of drafting a guy like Vick Ballard in the 4th-5th..but to have the ability to take a guy that is the best prospect at his position for arguably the last 5 or so years is enticing.

They aren't doing that much better than the Vikings...Levi Brown has never panned out as a LT which they drafted him to be. He has played a majority of his career at RT and is a FA this year and could very easily leave.

That is what I would not want with the #5 overall pick..An underachieving RT that is going to leave 5 years after being drafted.

I kow I can be taken as "off the cuff", etc etc from time to time but as for Richardson, I watched him everytime he stepped on the field this year and if you guys love Adrian Peterson, you will soon forget about him after you see Richardson regularly.

When folks say he is a BEAST, that is somewhat of an understatement. I have NEVER seen any back that has that type of power, speed, quickness and soft hands for good measure.

This may be bit hard for some guys to swallow but I think a back like this would elevate the OL to up their game.

Anyways...That is my sales pitch LMAO!:chiefs:

Oh..One more thing...If his OL is in HIS way...HE WILL run up your back.

For those of us that have had that happen to us or seen it happen, the OL learns real quick to fight forward than get busted in the kidneys regularly! LMAO

I actually heard that the coaching staff had to limit him on how much they would allow him to squat because they were worried he was going to hurt himself...Dunno if that's true or not.

I'm actually surprise how much love the Richardson in round 1 option is getting

I too agree that Richardson could elevate this line to be better. I think the idea of how elite of a prospect he is will be hard to pass up. I think we are at a point in building our team where we have the ability to draft based on "best player available" rather than strictly on filling a need. I also keep telling myself that we could draft an OG in a later round and treat him like we have Asamoah and Hudson and let Lilja play for 1 more year (which is what I think is left on his contract)

My Ideal scenario would be Richardson in 1, Sanders in 2 for RT, Draft a guy like Markus Zusevics (Iowa's other tackle, who is scouted to be a swing guy that could play OG or OT) in round 5-6 to develop, and landing Carl Nicks or Ben Grubbs via FA to replace Lilja. Wow that would be awesome!

If we picked up a good LG in free agency, then I would be all for grabbing Richardson if he was sitting there, and then get a RT in the 2nd round. But otherwise, I feel we should address OL before RB. Plus, if Richardson is there when we pick, there may be some people looking to trade with us to grab him.

They drafted him to be a ROT because they wanted to protect the blind side of their left-handed QB.

Not that I was saying that Brown was a better football player, but, IF JC had not been injured in 2011, and looked equal to what he did in 2010, yes, I would get Brown over Peterson.

HBs just don't tend to last that long in The NFL, and Peterson has been starting to show signs of aging, including what happened to him in 2011.

If it were not for the availability of ROTs, and our raised need for a HB, I would definitely take Brown over a HB.

That always works out so well.

It's the first priority of all "skill position" players to make enemies of your blockers. Just check the success rate of Larry Johnson since deciding to slam into his blockers' backs.

What a lineman learns from that is to get out of Mr. Toughguy's way and let him slam into a defender instead of his own back.

Getting hit with cheap shots in the kidneys does not improve anybody's skill level.

Even if Charles was healthy this year, I would still think the need for a between the tackles runner would be about the same....Fact is Thomas Jones is wearing down fast, and we need someone to take his place, so this has nothing to do with the idea that JC was out this year...Plus I want JC to be around for awhile, and another workhorse RB will help keep in around by taking some of the load off of him.

Actually....In high school I was an RB, and had a similar situation during practice where on of the reserve OG's was getting some reps, and he was going against one of our best DT's.. About 3 plays in a row I got hammered in the backfield as I was taking the hand-off because he blew his blocks. I got so pissed I chucked the ball at him and yelled at him to block somebody because I was tired of getting my a** slammed every time I was handed the ball. My coach then ran the same play with him as the RB, and no OG...He got plowed over, and believe me, he didn't miss a block the rest of the afternoon...

It is not the need of a between-the-tackles RB that raises Peterson's value for me. It is the need of a premier HB, due to the questions surrounding ours. Hence why JCs injury is a big factor... to me.

If not for the raised injury risk for Charles, I would be looking for a complimentary big back, not a high dollar premier back.

There is always some incredible story for an unreal notion, isn't there?

We are talking NFL players who have been in the position for years. You are no longer going to get some hidden player out of those guys by trying to beat it out of them.

Some high school back up has very little experience, and probably hasn't reached down within himself to find the best football player he can be. There is probably something in him that he hasn't found yet.

If you have inferior blockers (at the pro level) you are not going to turn them into superior blockers by being a d**k to them. You can turn them into enemies though.
