We tagged Dwayne Bowe, looks like Carr will walk. What does everyone think?
yay d bowe deserves it, now work out a long term deal. sad at the same time means carrs gone, so mixed fealings i was hoping we could work out a four year deal then franchise carr but things play out the way they do
Carr is most likely gone That's a loss but I don't think it's a loss that we can't recover from. Bowe would have been that. Just hope that in the next year we can get Bowe locked up
Is he restricted or unrestricted? If hes unrestricted perhaps its part of a bigger RG3 move? Two first rounders is what it would take. STL wants a WR for Bradford. Maybe switch picks and Bowe? Sign Carr long term?? Im just bored so im throwing ideas out there. Nothing to do til the draft now!!
Except for FA. lol
disappointed that we didnt sign either bow or carr so we could tag the other. fault the management cuz they knew this was there last yesr and its their fault for not trying to extend either of the players before this season.
How do you know its management? Maybe its the player/agent. theres two sides to a deal. Who knows how long they have been trying to come up with a deal. I think the fact that they waited until the last minute to tag Bowe shows that they were doing everything they could do reach a deal before using the tag.
The other thing is that we've got til the 13th to sign Carr. Don't think that'll happen but one never knows. We'll get something for Carr leaving. Probably a 3rd rounder? I think that's what the Raiders got for Asomugha leaving. I'm not sure if we get that pick this year or next year though.
Any way you cut it we've got a lot of free agents coming up that are going to need some big contracts here pretty soon.
Bowe, Carr (doubt he's staying but hey), Dorsey, Albert and then I'll pander to the Manning talk by adding him in. That leaves 5 guys that'll will get around 10 million a year at least with a 37 million cap. Yes we have more space this year but not next. I know that Dorsey is eating up a good chunk of our cap so maybe that'll end up saving us money.
I'm hoping we make some moves in free agency because like Canada said, it's a very long time to the draft!
^^This^^
It made more sense from a business standpoint to tag Bowe instead of Carr, for 2 reasons. 1) The cost for a franchise WR is lower than the cost for a franchise CB and 2) With the signing of Routt, there is less damage to the team if we lose Carr.
I'm not fully convinced that just because we tagged Bowe then Carr is going to walk. With our cap space we have just as much chance as anyone of signing him as a FA. The Chiefs may be just waiting for him to test the market so they can match the best offer. I think it is likely that Car was not going to sign any (reasonable) offer no matter how good it was. His agent probably advised him to wait for FA and see what other teams will be willing to offer before signing a deal.
I agree that is now much less likely that we re-sign Carr, but it isn't out of the question.
This is exactly what I predicted would happen, two weeks ago, HERE:
id only trade bowe to stl and draft rg3 if kc feels rg3 jamall moeaki are strong enough to suppourt a possible growth of baldwin into a elite receiver.... which i doubt. after how baldwin started his career with us i've really been disapointed, he had one really good catch against san diego then i haven't seen much.
Well, Carr is going to leave, and this will give Baldwin a chance to show that he can replace Bowe.
I think that is what management is seeing.
I have to agree with Canada, they did wait till the last minute to tag him. If fact is maybe neither really wants to be here. They may feel they have a better chance at a superbowl run if they can get on with the Pats, Giants, Saints....Saints? Yea I don't see them as being to much of a contender this year
That is not really fair.
When it becomes a trend, such as the low salary number has, since Pioli arrived, then it absolutely makes management much more of a suspect.
But that is not to say that I have any real problems with player management since Pioli's arrival.
I am fine with being under the cap, as long as I am confident about the players we do have.
I don't think we have to spend for every possible upgrade that makes itself available.
My second thought is that I really want free agency to get here because I want us to have a shot at getting Nicks in free agency!
Bowe has the tag.... the question is now... CARR... i would love to see him stay.. highly doubtful.... march 13 is when we'll see what happens... GO CHIEFS
I could be wrong but I think you are a little confused as to the tag cost... (which before the new CBA was the top five salaries at a position averaged) ... and what we get if a team pursues a player under the franchise tag.
Any team is allowed to offer a contract to Bowe. At this point the Chiefs can match it and keep him... or let him walk and receive two first round drafts picks. So essentially for us to lose Bowe it would take a long term contract and two first round picks to acquire him....
I dont see him goin anywhere...
The league would issue a compensatory pick for losing his services. I think it is designed to keep the league competition as level as possible and so that a team doesn't suffer too big of a talent dive.
When Julius Peppers left the panthers for the bears I think the panthers got a 3rd round pick for it.
Only if we do not sign someone of better value?

A team has to sign a player with a higher value for a compensatory pick to be given.
Sorry.......didn't read AKChiefs post before I posted....
In my opinion, and that plus Pioli's history is all I have to go on, look for Bowe to be gone and KC to pick up 2-1st round draft picks by draft day if Bowe hasn't inked a long-term deal by then.

No one's offering, but that's what it'd take to get him and Pioli has a history of franchising his unsigned stars for draft picks. I think there is something flying under the radar. It's just a hunch and an opinion, but I won't be shocked if he is let go.
It wouldn't surprise me, but Pioli's reputation with us is to come to a deal. The only example of that of course is Hali. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Glenn Dorsey get traded for a late 1st round pick. Next year he would be up for a new contract, and his skills and abilities would probably translate to being worth more than a 3-4DE is really worth.
BTW, I would rather see us sign him to a reasonable extension this offseason, but I couldn't blame Pioli for getting draft picks.
i dont see bowe going anywhere. with a good draft and a few pick ups and a good offense system we can be a good team.
