Hockey, rugby, Aussie Rules football, boxing, MMA...the list goes on. An anchilles tear is career ending for a runner. Every sport has risks involved. Try being 7 feet tall and rolling your ankle....

Any one can suffer an injury and end their career early. If this is that much of a concern to them they should get a desk job or play baseball.
