So, the closer we get to FA, I am wondering if trading down is becoming more of a possibility.
Here is a realistic scenario of the top 5:
STL - Sam Bradford
DET - N. Suh
TB - McCoy
WAS - R. Okung
KC - ????
(yes I know it is not the most probable, but it is a possibility)
WAS just tendered Jason Campbell, so they may be interested in trying to make him work.
That leaves SEA and CLE sitting behind us. Both of them want a new QB. CLE let Derek Anderson go and rumor has it Quinn is not too far behind. Either way, they could probably use a good QB.
SEA just dropped Seneca Wallace, who was always thought as the heir to when Hasselbeck cannot come back from one of his many injuries. You have to think they are looking for someone young to replace Hasselbeck when he retires/gets cut in a couple years.
Buffalo and San Fran are also rumored to be interested in QBs.
This makes me think that if it was ever going to happen to us, this would be the year we could trade out of the top 5. Probably just a pipe dream, who knows.

(1st post)
I think the 5th spot is the last of the top spots it's easy to trade out of because picks 6-9 (or so) demand top-pick money, for talent that isn't on par with the top few players. Berry is available in the scenario you present, proving this point. If we take Berry at 5 we make him the highest payed player at his position, which is not a premium position. I say trade down if at all possible if Okung is gone, but it would be tough to do.

Nice first post, and welcome to the Crowd.
I agree about Berry. Pioli doesn't seem to me like a GM that will make a rookIe safety the highest paid at his position. It does seem like we trade down this year to take Bulaga or Dan Williams later in the 1st round, while also acquiring an extra pick most likely.
I think the Chiefs will definitely try to trade down. I just don't know if there will be any teams willing to trade up. Its possible at the #5, especially since we are picking in front of seattle.
If the chiefs can't trade down, I think they will be looking at Dan Williams in the 1st rd. In 2nd rd, they will grab a OG and a LB. 3rd rd possible a center of WR. A lot depends on who is sitting on the board in the 2nd rd.
The interesting part of this draft is that the 2nd rd takes place the next day. That will allow teams to reset their draft board and MORE importantly make trades. I expect to see a lot of trades in the 2nd rd this year. A lot!

Depends on who is available in the draft when our pick comes around.
I would not mind tradeing down. I just dont see anyone that will be there that can help this team right away. If Okung is there I would love to draft him but if not I just think it might be best to trade down get more picks. Berry is the only other one i would think about.
Personally, I don't see them looking at Dan Williams in the first. I don't think there is a massive dropoff between him and Cody or Thomas, either of which could be available in the second round.
I think if we trade down, we will be looking at offensive line. Bulaga, Davis, or Campbell would be much more reasonable at the #9 pick, which one has to assume is where we would end up.
The 49ers have 2 first round picks. 16 and 19 I think. They might be willing to trade one to get a QB and still have a 1st rounder. Just guessing really.
The only reason a beer sweats around Canada is because he's decided it will be the next beer he drinks.
Sorry...they pick 13 and 17
