why couldent we or why didnt we make a run at Santonio holmes if they were only asking a 5th rounder

Since the vast majority of fifth round picks never amount to anything. Seems that the risk is non-existent to me.
Worst case scenario, he is a total bumb like Bwilliams says, and doesn't contribute. Certainly not far from what you expect from a fifth round pick anyway.
Best case scenario, he changes. It isn't like that doesn't happen. Jared Allen quit drinking. Eddie Kennison straightened up.
If your fifth round pick doesn't work out, it's a pretty minor deal.
Holmes was a constant thorn vs Rex Ryans' defenses during his days in Baltimore. He remembered what he did to them...thus he is now a Jet...
SHUT IT
It is more than a fifth round pick. The Jets draft board just changed based on need. The Jets very well good have addressed their wants at WR in the draft and now may pass on WR as they have it filled. This essentially could put thim in a big hole.
You can't compare Eddie Kennison to Holmes. Kennison just never lived up to his draft status on the field. He did quit on Denver because his wife was sick. He was never an off the field problem.
A better comparision would be Jared Allen. The difference though is by this time, Jared was working to get his stuff straight. Holmes has shown no signs of improvement and is telling people to kill themselves. From what I have read, Holmes is looking at the trade as the Jets acceptance of his problems and a better fit for him.
the steelers dumped him for what they could get, he is suspended for the first 4 games this year and is in his final contract year so a former super bowl mvp UFA will be lookin for big $ contract next year and the steelers wouldn't pay it even if he was a perfect angel, then they would get nuttin honey. we need a 16game plus receiver not 12 and gone
