He was claimed by the Jags.
If the rumor that we tried to put a claim on Edwards doesn't light a fire under Cassel, I don't know what will.
Good, I'd rather just draft a QB anyway if we need to. Trent Edwards is hardly the answer.
Maybe, but there are a lot of great quarterbacks drafted in the mid or late first round. Aaron Rodgers was picked 24th overall. Drew Brees was the 1st pick of the 2nd round, Big Ben 11th, Cutler 11th. Heck, look how far Clausen fell last year, and he was the 2nd QB taken.
QBs are a crapshoot in the draft, so I'm OK with not getting first dibs.
I said it would be a lot tougher, not impossible. See if you can find some statistics for the success rate of QBs drafted in the first 10 picks vs those drafted in the 6th round like Brady.
I agree that the Chiefs should attempt to draft and develop a QB. I was just pointing out that it's not going to be easy and it might take some time. In the meantime, we need to make sure that we have somebody decent playing QB whether it's Cassel, Croyle, Edwards, or somebody else.
Well let's take a look at some of the better QBs in history
Joe Montana, taken in the third round, 82nd overall
Brett Favre, taken in the second round, 33rd overall
Kurt Warner, was not even drafted in the NFL he played Arena Football first.
Steve Young, played in the USFL first and was not drafted in teh NFL
Dan Marino went 27th in the draft
Trent Green 8th round, 222nd pick
Then you have the infamous
Matt Lienart
Jamarcus Russell
Vince Young
I know I am missing many others as well, but those come to mind.
Being taken early in the draft does not guarantee success, no more than being taken late means you cannot be a success. I tell you that if Matt Cassel can become a Trent Green or a Kurt Warner, then I will be a happy camper.
Are you man enough? Eric Berry? Apparently Not!
