The recent struggles of former USC quarterbacks Matt Cassel, Matt Leinert and Mark Sanchez brings up an interesting question: how many USC quarterbacks have met with success in the NFL? Dating back to Pat Haden, the last successful quarterback before Palmer, USC quarterbacks have fallen flat in their NFL careers. Most USC quarterbacks have either failed to make an NFL roster or have become perennial NFL back ups. USC quarterbacks that did have the opportunity to start in the NFL never made their mark.

USC always seems to have a pretty good offensive line and over the years they have depended on their running game to carry the offense. A good offensive line can make it much easier for a QB. Perhaps they never really cut their teeth in college?

It would be interesting to find out whether the QBs mentioned were sacked and hurried more in the pros.

BTW: I have never have been a USC fan.

Short answer. Carson Palmer was pretty great pre-injury, and has at least won a division post-injury.

Long answer is that it's because most QBs don't make it in the NFL. There are what, 15 top QBs? They went to Tennessee, Michigan, Old Miss, Delaware, Miami (Ohio), Syracuse, Boston College, and a bunch of others. We just think USC QBs are going to be better because of their inflated records. It's a lot more about the individual and the team that drafts them more than andy particular school or program.
