In 1933 the Pittsburgh Steelers took the field for the first time. At the time the Pittsburgh football team shared the same name as their baseball, the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates first game was a loss to the New York Giants by a score of 23 - 2. It was not a good start for the Pittsburgh football team but they would eventually become one of the best franchises in NFL history. The Pittsburgh Steelers started in the Eastern Division when the NFL was only 10 teams.
