Looks like the front office has begun trimming the fat from the roster. The first two to fall are Chris Chambers and Jackie Bates.
Heres the official read from kcchiefs.com
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Thursday that the club has released CB Jackie Batesand WR Chris Chambers
.
Bates (5-10, 180)saw duty in two games (one start) with the Chiefs in 2010, recording two tackles and a pair of passes defensed. The Benicia, Calif. native originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2009. He appeared in 17 games (15 starts) in two seasons at Hampton after originally starting his collegiate career at Oregon.
Chambers (5-11, 210) has played in 153 games (127 starts) with Miami (2001-07), San Diego (2007-09) and Kansas City (2009-10). He has caught 540 passes for 7,648 yards (14.2 avg.) with 58 touchdowns. I agree we'll be alright without the 22 catches he "produced" in 2010. Seems he really missed an opportunity to improve his skills with our coaching staff. I was hopeful he would have worked out but in the end he was a waste of roster space.
I was surprised Brody wasn't on the list. Yet.
No surprises there. Chambers was a past his prime guy who never really lived up to his expectations. The addition of Breaston and Baldwin makes him expendable.
Oh, and Jackie who?
This one is a Surprise just saw on twitter the Chiefs cut Brian Waters. Didnt see that one comeing.

Loosing Waters who was a 16 game starter in 2010 is a huge surprise to me as well. What the heck are they cooking up for us? I'm really glad it's Pioli making the decisions.
BW is a shock to me! I hope there plan works.
Wow, didnt see that comming till maybe next year. I hope there is some one in the works....
Yeah that is a bit of a surprise. Wonder if they are ready for Asamoah to take over.
wouldn't think it was a cap space move to save money because we are so far under the cap. unless they just want to re-structure his contract for like a 1 year deal, that will help land a couple more FA's we are targeting?? I don't know, but yeah....a surprise.
