Manning out for a while?

I just heard that Peyton Manning had another neck surgery today and will be out for while. This could help us on October 9.

Anybody know how much of that $90 Mil is guaranteed?

I think it was like $28 or 38 million. But if he doesn't return, the contract can be voided.

I can not come up with a scenario that includes Irsay and Manning parting ways.

The Sporting News has an article stating the Colts owe him 26.4 mil regardless this year, but to opt out of the contract they would have to release him. Injuries or not I see Peyton under center for at least four years going forward. He is the single most dominate player in the NFL, argueably the history of the NFL. How could you not roll the dice on a guy like that? That franchise was garbage prior to 98, well really 99 when he caught fire.

I can only see a mutual agreement where he retires being the termination of this contract.

If nothing else he can help with the OC duties. I'm not much of a fan of his, but the man can read a defense.

Without a doubt the Colts are a diminished franchise without him. And like him or hate him you have to give him his due. And if this most recent surgery turns out to be a career ender, then I hope he gets a REALLY FAT payday out of it. He deserves it.

Meantime, I'm really happy we are not going to have to face him this year. I think we just picked up an extra game in the "W" column.
