Default Martin Rucker may be out for season

The feel good story of the local guy coming to the team appears to be ending. Josh Looney of the Kansas City Chiefs official website reports that Martin Rucker, former Missouri tight end, is "likely" to have ACL surgery, but he's first getting a second opinion.
Per Looney, Romeo Crennel said it "doesn't look good".

Rucker hurt the knee at last Friday's OTA. We haven't heard any updates on him since then and I said on 610 Sports earlier this week that it's usually not a good sign when things are so quiet after an injury like that.

An ACL injury, depending on the severity, could keep him out for the entire year, as Chiefs fans have unfortunately come to learn.
From a football standpoint, this won't have a major affect on the Chiefs. He had a ways to go before even making the team, let alone making an impact. But it's still disappointing that Rucker, who was born in St. Joe, won't be able to play for his hometown team.
At least not this year, if the second opinion shares the opinion of the first opinion

i hope the second opinion is a little better, really a shame if he's done for the season w/o getting a real shot

Hopefully since he just turned 27 it doesn't mean the end of his playing days. Moeaki could be a good mentor on the rehab process. Just wish Martin the best of luck, it's a damn shame he got hurt so soon.

It sounds like he is out for the season. Wish him the best of luck.

On a side note, he is probably getting a second opinion on WHO should do the surgery, not IF his ACL is torn. ACL's are very cut and dry. It is either torn or it isnt and it is usually obvious on the MRI (except in 1% of cases, in which case usually a 2nd MRI gives a better picture). You can go without an ACL, but you would likely never play sports again without severe pain and causing further damage to other structures in the knee.

I agree with this assessment, but I am not a MD.
