Default former NFL player helps bomb survivors

Joe Andruzzi, a former Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots, was among those who sprang into action to help survivors.
Members from the athlete’s foundation – the Joe Andruzzi Foundation which helps to tackle cancer by providing financial support for patients and their families – were competing in the marathon.

When the bombs were detonated, the three-time Super Bowl champion was photographed carrying a woman to safety by the Boston Globe.

He later tweeted that he and his wife were unharmed as well as offering prayers for the victims and their families.
Andruzzi’s family has somewhat of a reputation for heroism after it was revealed that three of his brothers were firemen in New York who responded to the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

Regarding the photo, the former footballer released the following statement: “Marathon Monday should be about uplifting stories, personal challenges and fundraising milestones, but today's bombings irrevocably changed that.

“While I appreciate the interest in hearing our perspective on today's horrific events, the spotlight should remain firmly on the countless individuals - first responders, medics, EMTs, runners who crossed the finish line and kept on running straight to give blood, and the countless civilians who did whatever they could to save lives.

“They were the true heroes. Our thoughts prayers go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy.”

The thing I like about Joe is that he didn't do it for the accolades but immediately referenced the first responders.
