Default Chiefs open to keeping Branden Albert – SBNation.com

Branden Albert might not be traded after all. Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are open to the idea of keeping Albert in 2013, rather than trading him, according to The Kansas City Star. via Chiefs open to keeping Branden Albert – SBNation.com.

Do we know what kind of blocking scheme Reid/Heck plan on running? I believe Reid used to run a power system, not a zone system. That may have a significant affect on who ends up starting/why they were quick to not want to pay B. Albert.

I had heard it was going to be more of a power blocking scheme. I think that's one of the reasons why they preferred Fisher over Joeckel.

Of course, when Eric Fisher about MAIMED O-Line assistant Eugene Chung during one of the drills in his private workout, it didn't hurt his cause, as well.

So we might of drafted a RT #1 overall?

But we could still move Albert over, he doesn't have to play if he doesn't want to

i hope u don't have to pay a player that refuses to play a different position and that it doesnt count against the cap if he holds out the whole year

If he holds out, then the Chiefs brass can pass it through the commissioner's office & pull some strings to have that Franchise Tag revoked. If Albert refuses to report, then he has breached the contract that he signed. If he does report, then he'll play where they tell him to. The Chiefs have no obligation whatsoever to guarantee him a LT spot, especially having drafted a player who has the potential to be a LOT better at the LT position than Albert ever was or ever will be. Personally, I wish they hadn't put the Franchise tag on him.

I believe that if he refuses to play, he can be suspended without pay, and without a salary cap hit.

True. He will lose his job on the field, not in a draft board or a GM office. Reid has the last word on him.
